Now I imagine how hard Ave Maldea's work actually is. Ave is a local frame builder here in the Philippines who specializes in fixie and roadbike frames. He doesn't have a big production line and does every welding joint by hand. Although he is experienced, he must have a really hard start as shown by Blake's struggles here. As an ex welder and welding inspector and now welding engineer, the first thing I would like to say is kudos to your innovation and can do attitude, really refreshing and inspiring. As you said and found out a lot of technical knowledge, design and skill goes into this sort of work and considering your lack of tools and knowledge for this project it is even more impressive what you achieved. As you’ve stated in your video, you’re going to give it a tough trial over a few days and having watched your videos I know it will be a tough trial. For this can I express caution as the best weld design is “no weld”, unfortunately this cannot be achieved all the time and the high quality of the weld becomes paramount to safety and quality, hence the need for NDE when high impact, fatigue loads are inevitable and these loads are definitely applicable in Mounting Biking. I apologise if I’ve came across as negative and technical at the end of this post but your health an well being are extremely important but I will reiterate that it was an awesome effort and I am positive that with the correct tools, material, workshop and welding process (TIG would be my choice) you could make an awesome, high quality bike that could tackle any terrain you throw at it. Well done Blake 👍
@joshuafreeman3745 Жыл бұрын
Couldn't have said it better myself, as a new welder (5+ years), I'd argue the same thing. Kinda started the video expecting the welding side of things to be a horror show, but was pleasantly surprised by the quality given your tools and experience with welding 😅 I honestly reckon with more technical knowledge and more appropriate tools and some TIG training, you'd be making some absolutely incredible frames. Honestly sat here feeling like even with all my college training and work experience in fabrication, I couldn't do any better 😂 Incredible job Blake!
