With the piping if it was clear you could maybe make it like a water fall return? Basically look like you have water falls inside the bracings? No idea if it would be safe for fish but definitely unique.

I'm a bit more moderate with the amount of tanks I have (mostly because of the missus) and am at 4 main tanks atm. I've built them all myself and they're all wood. The biggest one is 18 years old, 440 real gallons and houses some real nice discus fish and habitat relevant roommates. Next there is the 310 gallon lake Tanganyika aged 15 years. Another 310 gallons tank housing many many lake Malawi dwellers. Finally the current youngest tank is going almost 9 years, holds 284 gallons and houses the SE Asian waterbreathers. I am in the process of convincing the boss to realize the dinning room absolutely needs a paludarium with archers and a tropical rain forest above the water.
@mattdenefe57394 жыл бұрын
That is great to hear that your tanks have lasted that long. I have had some glass builders recently try and talk me out of a plywood build saying it won't last more than a few years. What Liner did you use??
@delta9vdp4 жыл бұрын
@@mattdenefe5739 I used a 2 part paint on epoxy for all tanks. Liquid rubber can also be used but is a little easier for species like Ancistrus to munch thru. I reapplied this once after the tanks moved to our new house. Until now no leaks, knocks wood.

Can't imagine you wouldn't want a sump over a canister, considering how much poop a big school of oscars is going to produce. Seems regular maintenance of a sump would be much easier, especially if you use a floss or a big foam pad to pre-filter that you swap or wash out frequently, I imagine canisters are going to get clogged up pretty quick, and require a lot more time and effort to clean out regularly. I think you have been revolutionary to the hobby, Joey, for promoting sump use for freshwater aquariums, and I am now convinced they are the best way to go, especially for large tanks and large fish. I would only consider going back to canisters for tanks with smaller species and lower bio-loads. I hope you return to sumps for most of your tanks and keep the movement alive.

In stead of “The King of DIY” you should rename your channel to “The King of Cool Ideas” because man I’m in love with the idea of that tank with Oscars and the mural on the wall! I’m looking into Oscars myself but haven’t decided yet as I also want a Green Terror cichlid but not the opportunity to do both.
