He also failed to dig below the frost line for his foundation. He’s going to have massive issues down the road and may need to tear the entire thing down and start over. If he’s in a cold state, he’ll definitely need to. He did a lot of things right! But that’s a pretty massive mistake to make. It’s why you generally shouldn’t be making tutorial videos like this unless you actually know what you’re doing; very easy to miss important details like that.

Nicely done from a structural point of view, the only thing i would of done differently is to have the deck posts on a concrete pedestals, they will last longer than being directly in contact with the soil. You might want to consider some skirting to keep the critters out. Pretty dam nice office mate!
@nathanetech Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Maybe I was just being lazy with the deck posts, but I did use lumber that was treated for constant ground contact. So they should last for a long time. If they don’t… I guess I’ll bite the bullet and redo it with concrete. I’ve been tossing around some skirting ideas but haven’t landed on anything yet. Maybe I’ll have a future video adding it. I appreciate your input!

@@Tholius There were a few times I had help. My dad was in town twice and helped both times - once with the floor beams and once with the siding. My father-in-law helped me get the mini split in place. Some friends helped me lift the walls and get the door unit in place. My wife helped with the larger windows by holding them from the inside while I nailed them in place. For different reasons, I didn’t get video of some of those. But other than those things, I solo’d the whole build.
