You went from a fast charge power brick to a bunch of tiny bricks that can only slow charge. The USB fast charging protocol negotiates power delivery to accept higher voltages when attempting to fast charge. The slow charge bricks have no negotiation and only charge at 5V, thus no matter how many slow charge bricks you used the time was always going to be slower than a single fast charge brick. The phone itself determines how much current it will/can accept, the brick can only say yes or no to its request.

@@Twisted_Biscuit you charge a LiPo with CC-CV method, never goes over a given battery voltage, so your limit is the maximum charging current in the CC state, which is already limited by the negotiation. Unfortunately, the rest of your power possibilities are not used here. But with USB pd standard you can go up to 5Amps. Scotty was right trying an extremely high Amp charging current, but delivered energy at 4.2V was 🔥 Edit: I'm just explaining the battery charging part. Of course, higher power delivered between the brick and the phone is used "elsewhere", like operating the phone 😉

It's great to have you back, Scotty. While it's a nice video to watch, it feels to me somewhat incomplete. Things that are important in my opinion that were left out: What is the normal voltage of a Lithium cell and how it changes with respect to the amount of change. How can the phone tell the battery percentage (it's not linear) What a battery protection circuit protects against (overheating, under voltage, over voltage, over current, short circuit...) Why you don't want to run a high current with low voltage through a wire, and that you would rather increasing the voltage to get more power using the same current, which is the base for many quick charging technologies. How you can connect batteries in series to charge to a higher voltage using a special IC that monitors the voltage of each cell in the series and balances the charge rate. Why you may not want to charge your phone as fast as possible (causes damage to the battery in the long term. I know you can't fit all of these ideas in one video, but without touching on some of the topics I've briefly mentioned, at least in a follow-up video, or mentioning that it's only a part of the picture, recommending other videos on KZbin for further watching, so people wouldn't get the feeling that what you've mentioned is VERY complicated or that that's all there's to it.

You hit the nail on the head when you said that you learn best when you are solving a problem, not reading a text book. As a self taught software engineer, I can say that many of us are the same way, which is exactly the skillset you need when what you learned in school is out of date within months or you need to learn to do something new that doesn't have documentation for your use case. You get bonus points for going through and soldering all those wires in the beginning knowing that it wouldn't work. A+ for effort!

The BMS uses the cell voltage to estimate the battery percentage. 4.2v would be 100% and ~3.5v would be 0% so since you’re putting a constant 5v it’ll stay there. Would be cool to try those cells in series and remove the step up just to see the bms report an accurate percentage

@fishstickrepairs1834
@fishstickrepairs1834 7 ай бұрын
I strongly believe that this isn't a supercapacitor but a boosted up Lithium battery. Capacitors and/or supercapacitors have to stand incredible pressures inside, and that's why they are usually cylindrical. That's also why capacitors explode from the top. If this was a supercapacitor the cell would have bulged in an instant because of the pressure inside. It is layered like a battery, and it probably is. But according to this testing, it's a pretty juiced-up battery, designed to charge and discharge more quickly than other regular batteries. still impressive, tho.
