You need better suspension geometry, the character has weight even when seated, so when you sit you compress the left suspension, combine that with the toe out of the wheels and you get a car that pulls to one side

also, since I'm this early, I think you will have better chance in seeing this. I had 30 hours in this game and was ready to quit because nothing I built ever worked. but every time I watch one of your videos, I learn something even if you don't say why or how something works. I would have uninstalled a long time ago. Thank you. please keep making gear blocks content. I love it.

Usually, in a RWD vehicle, the transmission has a transmission tunnel, where on the interior of the vehicle, it appears as a bump where the center console sits on top. This allows the engine to sit above where it would hit the ground. If the gears in gearblocks could accurately represent the size of the gears in actual cars, it would be much easier to recreate this (though, possibly at the expense of players) and thus create a realistic car

Using the centrifugal clutch is basically the same as the torque converter in an automatic vehicle. Look them up. It's pretty interesting how they work. Also, how the engine sits in the engine bay depends on what wheels they are driving. If the engine sits perpendicular (left to right) to the vehicle, than it's usually front wheel drive. If it sits parallel (front and back) to the vehicle, then it's usually real wheel or all wheel drive. I haven't seen a perpendicular engine in an all wheel drive vehicle yet but I'll look into it.

Really looking forward to when you start putting gearboxes in your cars. I've been at this stage of car building for a bit now just because I'm having issues with gearboxes, just seems like there's too much friction in the vehicle when I add one so the engine just stalls out when I engage any gear, also been having an issue where the engine just wont turn over when it's sitting on the ground. I do have a diploma in vehicle mechanics but It doesn't seem to help me lol.

I have been wanting this game to fiddle with the stuff and try to fix designs I see. I'm noticing your A arms are very long for your strut length, and you could probably do with some kind of anti-roll bar to help with the directional drift caused by the weight of your character in the driver's seat. You could also probably arch the frame and lower the steering rack to allow for a shorter rack and help with the steering geometry a bit.

Gearblocks like many other games does not handle high RPM objects well. Something to do with floating point precision. If you want the actual explanation, basically the angular velocity is represented as a quaternion (pretty much a vector and magnitude). This is multiplied with the current ofientation to get the orientation 1 step further. Computers have finite precision, the faster something spins the less precise the outcome. And since its a continuous simulation the error stacks until its out of control. This is especially noticeable for rotation, because orientation is normalized. That is, if there is a massive error among 1 axis dur to high spin, it makes other axes unstable too. Long story short, the dev put limits on the RPM of engines for a reason, try to stay below 5k.
@airzocker3046
@airzocker3046 2 күн бұрын
I think most of the problems don't come from floating point precision but from the physics update rate.
@blueflame_sm
@blueflame_sm 2 күн бұрын
@@airzocker3046 same thing, higher update rate means lower rotation per step means less error. The axel freaking out is a classic example of too much error building up so the physics engine has to freeze the object to prevent it from exploding the entire sim.

I've had the game for less than a week and have had a heck of a time with anything I start on I get pretty far into a build and can't complete it untill I find workarounds for certain part gaps such as using the angle connectors and it being a 1/4 or 1/2 a block short or high. Kinda wish there where shims for axles and connectors to adjust specific lengths and heights when using them to make more intricate buils have parts line up properly without having to find workarounds or start from scratch and change the design completely.

It all depends on the parameters available. Most small awd cars have a transverse mounted engine whether it’s a I4 or V6 (Audi and Subaru are basically the only ones that do longitudinal cause they offer awd versions for most of their fwd cars) and 99% of fwd is transverse with Saab being the outlier they actually reverse the placement totally with the engine being at the firewall and the transaxle towards the front. There are old V8 cars that are longitudinal fwd but they pretty much died out in the 80s the Oldsmobile Tornado is a great example of one of those and is the first true mass produced fwd car in America. There are some transverse mounted V8s but they died out in the early 2000s cause they’re a bih to work on with the third generation Ford Taurus SHO being the most notable that I can think of

I'm not super in depth into engines and types of engine, so I don't entirely understand why, if you have a two stroke engine, firing order wouldn't matter. If someone sees this and would be willing to comment please do. I'm not completely incompetent around engines but my brain just doesn't want to work rn.
@Dusto9
@Dusto9 Күн бұрын
He's wrong about that. Firing order does matter for 2-stroke engines. Not sure why Kan is confusing firing order with strokes lol, maybe he's thinking of single cylinder 2-stroke engines. Firing order refers to the order in which the different cylinders "fire". Different firing orders affect the balance of the engine, smoothness of power delivery and engine vibrations, among other things and the basic principle of that is no different in a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke engine. You could make an engine without a firing order by having all cylinders fire at the same time but i'm not sure if there is any good reason to do so other than for the fun of it.

@@Dusto9it’s literally impossible to make an engine with multiple pistons fire are the same time
@Dusto9
@Dusto9 Күн бұрын
@@satansnarwhal It's not impossible at all. It's actually very simple as all you need is a camshaft and a crankshaft on which all the lobes are on the same side of the shafts so the combustion cycles for all cylinders are synchronized. I can't think of any good reason to do that because it would be a very rough and badly vibrating experience with all the complexity and parts of a multi-cylinder engine but none of the advantages, while simultaneously having all the roughness and disadvantages of a single cylinder engine. But it's completely possible, there is nothing preventing you from doing that.
