I built the Stew Mac Fuzz Face and Phaser on Andy's recommendation, and both were nice kits with good instructions. After doing a couple, I graduated to sourcing my own parts with other pcb suppliers (have built a dozen or so), but I'm still glad I did these kits. Thanks, Andy, for a new hobby-and my friends who I've been building pedals for are grateful, too!

I love watching someone who actually knows what they're doing do something like this .. After about the first 16 seconds and seeing the PCB holder and the tool to bend the legs of electrical components I was like "well .. that would have been neat to know about 20 years ago when I first decided to Mod my TS-9 .. lol" .. Many thanks for the ongoing education

Gotta admit those LED leads kind of suck having to monkey them around like that. I’m building the Expander kit I swore they sent me the wrong enclosure because it doesn’t line up with the leads at all. That’s actually what brought me here. I wanted to drop a green one in there but the batch I got has leads about 1/4” shorter. Grrrrrr!! On a side note, I always replace the LED resistor out to a 10k. Otherwise you can see the damn thing from the moon. Another kickass video!!

I don't use StewMac any more- not their fault, but I live in Spain and stuff ordered from outside EU gets major hassle from Customs - duty, VAT and delays/to and fro emails etc. Instead I use Das Musikding kits 🎉in Germany - cheaper faster no hassle and a greater range of kits to choose from.

DIY is a niche market only.

Guitar players are dumb enough to fall for it. JHS reportedly sold like 8000 pedals in a couple days you have to put together with a second order for 20,000 more.@@shadowminister4090
@Buzzel-NL Жыл бұрын
This is something different. JHS is a pedal company that sells a novelty assembly kit for a pedal. Stewmac is a DIY focused supplier, that also supplies easy kits for beginners, creating a kit with very detailed description an packing all the parts costs more than only the parts. I don't agree with KDHs stance that the Notaklön is a easy way to create a bigger profit margin by offloading labor. It's a novelty product. It's like saying a puzzle company is offloading it's assembly to the consumer instead of selling finished puzzles.
@karmaandkerosene_music Жыл бұрын
All it takes is the right person to introduce a new idea to the market. Idiots who will pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars extra to have their brand new guitars scuffed up and beat up are stupid enough to buy into anything if the right person tells them it's "cool." It's clear that a lot of guitar players are easily-led mouth breathers who love to jump on a bandwagon - i.e. the Bad Monkey controversy about 6 months ago. They will gladly do the work for you - and then post on social media about the new pedal they just "built."@@Buzzel-NL
