I buy a 1989 Classic Mini Redflame limited edition with my daughter Steph & Mini Owners meet

I buy a 1989 mini red flame a classic mini to join our mini electric and a mini Cambria. My daughter Stephanie and my grand children join us to go and collect the car and bring it back to South Yorkshire. I get inspiration from the Just Jane South Lincolnshire Mini Owners Club meeting at the Afro Lancaster Bomber and Wrtime museum in Kirkby.

Limited Edition 1989 Mini Flame Red Special that was built by the Rover group with a production run of just 1, 000 cars as the Flame Red. The Flame was one of 3 Special Editions launched at the time with the other models being the Black Check Mate and the Green Racing Editions all of which featured Duotone paint which in the case of the Flame meant it was given the White Roof. The cars featured a exterior that came with Chrome Bumpers, Black Centre Grille and 'Flame Red' unique decals to the rear quarters and boot lid. The exterior was finished with the 12" Sports Style Alloy Wheels to off set the look.
Inside the car it featured the 'Black Crayons' seat trim that was fitted to all 3 models along with upholstered front head restraints and the unique to model cloth effect PVC door trims with featured red stripe. To compliment the sporty exterior and interior trim the steering wheel on this Special Edition was a rake adjust 3 -Spoke soft feel version and the dash featured a triple binnacle to incorporate the tacho, speedo and fuel and temperature gauges. The power for all 3 versions came from a 998cc transverse engine fitted with a 4 speed gearbox and at the time of launching the car is was given an insurance group 1 rating making it very economical to run and own. In the office we have a comprehensive folder with details of the cars history for the new owner to add to in their ownership

That was fun. Took me back, were about the same age and I loved playing with minis when I was young too...until the spacer incident put me off a bit 😂

Absolutely fantastic video, Roger. I am going to have to sort 3 South Lincolnshire Mini Owners Club car stickers out for you asap. You're as bad as my family now, with me having my Red convertible and my black f56 and then my middle son having a silver clubman and my daughter having a pepper white Clubman. We don't have a garage so all four are parked on the front drive/ gravelled over garden. It'd be a good turnout if it was just our two's families doing our own personal Mini meet 😂 Still I'm looking forward to meeting up, and also meeting Steph. One thing she said rang absolutely true with me; Original Minis DO have their own special Mini smell. I had never noticed until last year at the Just Jane meet and I stuck my head in one... I was immediately taken back to being 18/19 and the memories of being in the Blue Streak which was my first Mini 1000. Steph definitely knows how it works in 'Miniland'. She knew the car needed a name. She also needs to learn the other 'rules'. Rule 1 is you must park next to another Mini if there's one in the car park where you are. There's safety in numbers 😉 Rule 2 is to wave at other Minis😊 Rule 3 is about taking your Mini to meets and shows because like a puppy, they need to be socialised 😂 These are the main ones, many people have updated their own version and we have our own too. I've been wanting a classic Mini since I was about 20. Last year at 43 I picked up a UK driven until 2019 Mini Neon Edition that had already been imported to the US. What a fun little car. I sure wish I could have been playing with them my whole life. That Red Flame looks great! All original survivor or has it been restored?

Hi thanks for your comment. I had my first Mini in 1976 and loved them ever since. This car had a back to metal restoration in 2020, to remove all corrosion and new paintwork, but all original 89,000 miles and still runs great.

Still don't get why those Bmw's turn up at mini events? when you buy a Timex watch with a Rolex sticker on it do you show everyone your Rolex or your Timex?

I’ve had lots of minis since 1976 and I love them all. Even the BMW minis are great little cars with character, just a modern take. Pocket watch or Apple Watch, it’s great we have a choice.
