I've reviewed thousands of KZbin channels, and these are the things that happen before failure (but also how to fix them).
Here's how I'm helping creators: radicalyt.com/
I also share more outside KZbin:

What’s the best rhythm for a successful video. I know fast cuts help keep your audiences attention but I don’t think you can have a video that’s 12mins with a cut every 1 to 2 seconds with out people getting annoyed or board and leaving.

I’ve been on here since 2018. I’m only now seeing better views. I’ve grown very slowly. I’ve absorbed all of the knowledge to an obsessive degree but didn’t know how to interpret it. It all depends on if you're here for the love of what you do on your channel or the love of money. I'm a small fishing channel and been doing it for awhile now. It doesn't matter to me if I have 2 subs or just over 400. It matters to me that I've entertained or helped someone with what I love to do. A guy commented and said he had a medical issue and can't fish for a long time, it's content like mine that keeps him in the game. Made me wanna cry and THAT'S WHY I'M HERE ON YT!!

yes. if we only create our channel just for the love of money, our audience can easily feel it When we share what matters to us most on our channel, audience who resonate with us will be attracted to our content or us as a creator. The money will come as we become more and more valuable to the marketplace

One huge thing that actually improved me from watching you is collaborating with others. I made a small discord group with me and 5 other creators. We watch each others videos before release and then critique our thumbnails. My thumbnails were 4% CTR and now they range from 9%-12%. We have channels for notes on what works and what doesn’t.

@@pianopoly6219 I don’t :). I find it helpful to learn from other niche’s especially as I dip my toes into different categories. One thing that I have learned since becoming a content creator on KZbin (or just having an existence online) is that when it comes to building your page, it will take some time. It’s kinda like the old saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Also it doesn’t hurt to try out different ways to put together videos to see what works and what doesn’t. Another thing that I wanted to say before I forget, is that as the more popular you get you’ll get your share of haters too. And people who will label you as “cringe”. Now don’t get me wrong, you’ll have an audience who will love you and support you every way. But not everyone is going to like you and disagree with what you believe in. Even if it has reason for it, you can’t let it get to you by heart. Otherwise you’re going to have a harsh reality. Anyways that’s what I think, it don’t mean that the next creator will say the same. Good video!
@manhwainfinite
@manhwainfinite Жыл бұрын
agreed! As a smaller content creator myself I found that when I started truly focusing on my videos and quality the subscribers comments and views came in. I used to upload less frequently and didn’t work as hard on vids and my subs and views showed but i said that as a mask for my laziness despite me having all the time in the world :\ so yeah! hard work gets you as far as you work hard

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on all the new AI stuff. I've been so many recommendations from KZbin for videos showing how to make faceless "monetized" channels using nothing but AI. Do you think these are actually viable things? I took a few months making some videos (About 300 of them), created a channel and started uploading them. The 1st couple dozen got about 10 views each and got a few subscribers, nothing big. But then I posted one that got over 300K views, and the next 2 over 200K, and a couple more over 100K. I gained over 1,400 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours, and 1.3 million views in just a week, applied for monetization but KZbin denied it, saying something like it didn't provide any value. Seeing it's rapid growth, I would say it definitely provided some value to those subscribers and viewers. After KZbin denied monetization I lost all interest and still have over 150 videos left I could upload, but don't see a point in uploading them just for KZbin to throw ads on them and make money from them. What does KZbin have against faceless channels?

I recently chose to make YT part time only because I am a full time writer and I want to focus more on that. As a result, I produce less videos, but found more enjoyment in them, my audience loves the vids I do for them, and I have begun sharing my stories with my audience in the community tab and even created a choose-your-own-adventure story for them with polls for them to shape the story I would write. This has increased engagement, and while my channel remains small, I have found contentment because I am more in alignment with my true goals.

You've only failed when you stop innovating and give up - otherwise, you simply haven't succeeded yet! Also, remember to give your mind some downtime every day. My most original creative ideas usually come to me while I'm taking a shower, and I figure this to be because that is when my conscious mind is kind of idling and free to wander while the hot water and relaxing scent of the products I use work their magic on my body. Appreciate the moments of stillness and silence. 🧘‍♀

What do you mean by failing? Not everyone wants the same from KZbin. If you make videos because you really like them and you're not in competition with the rest of KZbin, I don't think the question of failure arises. What I mean is that the stress and strain on creators exists because it is created by creators. This completely destructive competition takes the fun out of making videos and makes the content increasingly empty, devoid of identity and passion.

1) Learning rate. If you're not picking up the right things and being effective, you'll fail. 2) Mindset. Gotta stick with it. Filter out ugly feedback. Your own narrative can steer you into a ditch. 3) Application rate. If not enough action, you'll lose momentum, and you'll pack it up. 4) Stop caring. What does enough mean? Other priorities can take over.

KEY TAKEAWAYS To make it on KZbin, you gotta keep learning and using what you know, fast. Don't let haters or your own doubts mess with your vibe; that can really make or break you as a creator. It's not just about learning stuff, but actually doing something with it. If you don't, you'll probably get frustrated and might even quit. If you're into what you're making, you're more likely to succeed. Lose interest, and your content's gonna suffer. If you're not feeling it anymore, it's cool to focus on other stuff. No need to force it. Great video Nate

The "expectation" of "taking off" that doesn't happen . . . leads to failure. The unrealistic expectation. One just needs to continue to work toward success: however an individual solves the problem and gains knowledge. Putting a time limit on it causes PRESSURE. Pressure = STRESS. Don't do that. My learning rate has been backwards for months because of following the advice from some other youtube creator channels (for instance one starting with Vid and ending in iq).... Their advice is massively outdated for a large part and it took me months before I realized it... In fact: I gave up on my channel because of it (and also bc of the hateful comments on the discord server from said channel), and stopped with all the analytics, and all the things I learned from them and just started doing things for the fun of it and how I would like youtube to be... And to my big surprise: there was a huge increase in views and subs! I still see them giving advice which I know for a fact to be completely wrong if you're a small channel on youtube today! Small example? They just posted some mistake creators supposedly make in their intro: adding a title that's already in the thumbnail. Wrong! With the autoplay function today it is a very good idea to add the title in the first seconds... I've started doing that some months back and my audience retention for the first 30 seconds improved, a lot actually! I treat the first 5-10 seconds of my videos as a sort of moving thumbnail, and it works. It works really well even! They also stated shorts should never be teasers for long form in any form. Again wrong... In reality they shouldn't JUST be teasers. They should have their own added value, but can definitely still *also* function as a teaser for long form videos. I've done it a couple of times and it works.... I can go on with many other things I learned from these channels and which did in fact hurt my channel, not improve it. So my current learning is more about my own gut feeling, learning from my own analytics and also checking out what other channels are doing... Oh, and things I learn here... Imho this channel is the only channel that sortof gets youtube today and the community of people here is always supportive, while on the other 'competing' channels there's a lot of hate, especially from old big channels towards the new small channels. Not here... And I love that!

As a beginner creator, I’ve definitely had a lot of “grumplestiltskins” in my own journey 😂 I just recently uploaded my first video showing my face, and my “grumples” kept telling me that it wouldn’t do well and that all the effort I was putting into it wasn’t worth it. Long story short, it’s ranking #2 in my analytics! Moral of the story: Kick those grumples outta your brain. No free lunches here 😂😂

HI Nate. Hi guys. So, this is my third KZbin channel, the 2nd to be monetized and the first ever to make any real money. I've just got into the Partner Program, about a week ago or so and the first time I joined KZbin was June 2021 and that channel is pretty much non existent at this point. I'm the least patient person I know but I stuck it out, third time's the charm I guess! What I learned was keep going and do something that excites you, people can tell the difference between enthusiasm and faking it. Amazingly enough I also realized I had much better views with one video a week than 2. I even did Vlogmas! hehehe. I should also add that I've never had a viral video and I still monetized in 10 months so... totally possible guys, forget about viral, do what you love consistently and keep at it. Keep going, you've got this!

I see what you did there at the end, sir. Love your content and it would be great if you could make a video on how to hone in on YT analytics to discover who is watching your videos and how to curate videos around that audience. TYSM for all your vids!

Here’s the answer. Every niche has a different reach and different behaviors. For example there aren’t millions of people coming to KZbin to subscribe to this type of channel. However , a tech channel has a way broader reach and can attain subscribers faster using the same steps. Also this channel is new.

This is currently my method which might change in the future depending on the results I get. I am making sure that I focus on each video one by one. I make sure I am enjoying creating just one video and I focus on a goal for eac video and I keep at it. atahis is for staying in the present. That moment you pospone your happiness to the future, you lose or at least that is what I think. Since I started doing that I feel enjoyment of creating videos. I still have a lot to learn but That is what makes it endless fun and enjoyment. You just have to get yourself in that headspace of enjoying the journey and doing the work for the work itself. That way you never loose. Everyday is a success.

Love naming your negative thoughts so that you can call them out by name. My negative thought comes in the form of “is this worth it?” I keep a handful of experiences I’ve loved that I wouldn’t have had if it weren’t for the channel in my mind’s back pocket, and pull them out to answer that question.

I started my channel in 2020 and I almost quit in December of 2021. I decided to change up my channel to target a particular audience and I changed up my style of presenting. I put out my first video in 2022 on January 2nd with this mindset and my channel started to take off! I had 387 subs on Jan 2nd, 2022 and by January 20th, I was at 1,000 subs! Over the past 2 years, I continued to improve 3 things on my channel... my titles, thumbnails, and finding subjects that my audience liked; not what I liked necessarily. The last thing I will say is that you have to stand firm on your beliefs and not try to please everyone. Trying to please everyone will result in pleasing no one. Figure out who your audience is and what types of subjects they are interested in. Hope this helps someone. (Also, get feedback from your audience about what they would like to hear more about.)

My channel has been active for 2 months now. I will be hitting 2k subs in the next day or two. The problem is it's mainly a shorts channel with only 400k views. I'm not going to hit that 10million mark. Not even close! My question is after the 90 days is up. Does it start over and give me another 90 days to hit 10 million?

I watched this video a couple weeks ago and your words are still rolling around in my head. I am a slow to grow channel. I have also been slow to learn KZbin. I can say though at the same time I was learning youtube I was also learning how to start an etsy shop, list , and market products, make a website, start an email list etc. etc. I think having to learn all of those things slowed my learning curve for youtube. Now that I have a handle on some of the things listed below I think I am able to now focus on what I need to learn, change etc. Your other video about showing your personality has also been in my noggin. I know that my personality does NOT show as much as I'd like in my videos. I feel if I can get to the point where I am more confident my subscribers and views will come. Do you have recommendations for working on this? I do craft videos so most of mine are showing my hands and not my face. I've thought about using Streamyard and record both my face and hands at the same time. (I don't have a fancy 2 camera set up yet). Do you think this is a good idea? I'd love your feedback! thanks for your amazing thought provoking and inspirational videos!

I do this. What it does is stop people dropping off at the end so it does increase your overall retention. I don’t feel it’s by much and doesn’t tend to affect views but as soon as people know the video is ending they’ll leave so you may as well help them out lol

@UCBzdPYPsWjdTS%F0%9F%98%82%F0%9F%98%828RkOd7xTxg Are all KZbin videos going to end abruptly now in order to prevent people from dropping too quickly at the end?😂 But seriously, I do think some KZbinrs have excessively long outros that are probably decreasing retention rates slightly.

I posted 3 mediocre videos each week for 1 1/2 years. Channel barely makes money. Stopped posting for 2 months+ to reboot it. Next monday first one of 10 really high quality videos goes out, one each week or every 2 weeks. In the meantime, I write my 2nd, better book. Learn & make changes, or go broke. That's the reality of KZbin. I'm probably switching from grinding, to making HQ videos whenever they are ready. IF the performance is much better starting with these 10 videos.

Hi Nate: Regarding negative feedback, I once was interested in the baseline of negativity. That is - what percentage of people will give a dislike no matter what? Back in the days when YT would show dislikes, I noticed that the Beatles' Hey Jude had 2% dislikes. Other (almost) universally liked songs showed about the same. So, these days that's how I look at my own metrics. No doubt, sometimes I deserve a dislike from a reasonable person but I can count on 1% or 2% of people who enjoy the thrill of pressing the dislike button.

I suggest everyone try mountain climbing. It teaches you that if a route is not climbable, there's always another one which gets you to the summit. Then Combine that teaching with this mindset: "If that idiot can get 100,000 subs, I can too." This immediately shuts down any negative thoughts. xD THEN, start researching and detecting the routes to the summit, which is literally what you just said about learning rate.

Thank you. I started to publish videos on my new channel just two weeks ago. The months before I made just some clips for fun. Since two weeks I have noticed that people like my content. I have like 140 subscribers now. But I also know that cause I am in the AI content niche I wont make more than maybe 1k subs in the long run. However, its a lot of fun. And you are right, if you are not focused, if you dont continue to educate yourself and publish new content regulary, you will fail for sure.
