“I Can Read People” #psychology.
The “Reading the Mind in the Eyes” test is a psychological tool designed to assess a person’s emotional intelligence, particularly their ability to recognize and interpret the emotions and mental states of others through subtle cues in the eyes. This test involves showing participants photographs of the eye region of different faces and asking them to choose the emotion or thought being expressed from a set of options.
This test is closely linked to research on autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as individuals with ASD often experience challenges in social communication and empathy. People with autism may find it difficult to read and respond to social cues, including facial expressions, which can hinder their ability to engage in typical social interactions.
Studies using the “Reading the Mind in the Eyes” test have found that individuals with ASD generally score lower than neurotypical individuals, highlighting differences in social-cognitive processing. The test provides insights into the specific ways in which autistic individuals perceive and interpret social information, contributing to a better understanding of the social difficulties associated with autism.

6/6 I’m a woman but I’ve had enough friends who are surprised when I tell them I’m not diagnosed with anything that I think I should probably see a doctor. People I know but don’t open up to on the other hand are usually shocked when I tell them I wasn’t always so good at being social. I feel like I’ve spent a lot of time learning how to be normal and react properly so that might be why I’m good at this.

Also got 6/6. I'm a woman with diagnosed ADHD and recently started seeing a behavioral therapist since I'm positive that there's more that has gone undiagnosed over the 3 decades that I've been around; People with autism have very similar behavioral symptoms as those with ADHD, however sometimes they overlap and can leave a person with both. I'm not sure if I'm one of those people, but I know that there's more beneath the surface of myself that I don't understand. If you think you're outside the norm and have to intentionally make yourself "blend" (also known as masking) with the crowd because it's what's expected of you, you likely have some sort of neurological (neurodivergent of sorts) disorder. Another common symptom is that you have a very strong intuition on one's intentions based upon their eyes or suble behaviors. Either way, it's exhausting to exist as such since the world isn't designed for people with tendencies to notice the details that most people tend to miss. It doesn't help either that women still often get dismissed/gaslit in the world of healthcare - I certainly was in childhood when my mother tried to get me help and the doctor, nurses, and my own school counselor basically went "she's fine, these other people have it way worse". It wrecked my ability to navigate life and understand myself as I got older... Seriously, go see a doctor and look into a therapist of sorts if you feel that way. See another one and advocate for yourself if that first Dr won't refer you to a specialist (that's how you see one in the US, anyway). A diagnosis won't change who you are, nor will it be your identity. Rather, it'll give you clarity and provide many opportunities to better understand yourself, why you are as you are, and be able to decide what you need. It's a hard journey, but it's absolutely worth it. ❤

Same, however, I did pause on half of them so I could study them longer. I studied micro expressions in my spare time in college after I realized it would be difficult to work in ministry without being able to read people. Funny enough, it didn’t save me from making some serious mistakes because my other social cues were just still garbage. I can learn these things, but because they are things aren’t second nature, it makes me very immature. Speaking of, I didn’t know that most people don’t have to study things like that. In my public speaking class I very proudly taught my classmates how to understand and recognize sarcasm as one of my assignments. I was kindly informed that everyone in the room didn’t struggle with that sort of thing in the first place.

It’s seriously easy. I used to get told well by my mum that I can never hide how I’m feeling because my eyes says it all. I have a gift to be naturally expressive but I’ve felt a lot of emotions in life along the way and because I’m usually quiet, I think a lot. and those faces just remind me how much thinking I do. I was even trying to copy the faces and be like this is what this person is thinking and it was very easy. Got everything right. I’m so emotionally intelligent that stupid bullies won’t understand how smart I am. All these faces are very relateable.

I think what it really is is the multiple choice. This being multiple choice makes it way eaiser to be honest. I'm not diagnosed, but I and everyone I know are pretty certain that I am on the spectrum, yet I got all 6 correct. But if it wasn't multiple choice and instead free response (which is better reflective of real life scenarios), I probably would've gotten maybe one or two, or possibly even none.

6/6. I'm autistic with adhd. "Low scores are associated with autism and high scores are associated with emotional intelligence" as if we can't be emotionally intelligent. I didn't get diagnosed until I was almost 19, so I spent the first 18 years of my life learning how people work, what their expressions mean, the tone of their voice, etc. This led me to become more emotionally intelligent and more empathetic than most my age, since those of us with AuDHD tend to do things with either 100% effort or 0%, and when I got bullied in elementary school for not understanding which rules I should follow and which rules kids would bully me for following I knew I needed to be serious about understanding people and why they don't always say what they mean. I still struggle with it to this day so I did have to pause the video in order to fully comprehend the options but my first guess was always correct although all of these expressions do have multiple meanings.

I'm a woman and was diagnosed with ADHD and autism around 12, and I got 6/6. Honestly, I've always been able to pick up the things most neurotypicals miss in behavior and conversation, and change in a person's pattern. I think more research needs to be done for autism by people With autism, because honestly I feel neurotypical researchers don't understand why we do the things we do, and the things we pick up on. I have a serious issue with being told we don't understand social cues, when we see what's going on and we don't understand why neurotypicals have to play communication games and lack honest intent-while we're seen as hostile because we want to know why this game has to be played. We'll do it, but now I question all of your intentions because you cannot be honest over simple things. At least that's my view.

I’m autistic though too, but very intense household, had to put others emotions before mine since I was a toddler to protect myself, and got 6/6 🤷 i think its also easier to tell since it’s just still images, also like I thought these tests weren’t that accurate anyway because they’re just actors and aren’t actually experiencing the emotions (i heard somewhere before, but im not actually sure) I usually mess up more on understanding others tones and its probably more difficult when inside of an experience with someone when time is always moving theres too much to process so that may be part of it too… but other people seem misinterpret my own tone or facial expressions a lot, *especially* when I was younger at home, at school, and with friends. Would look in the mirror a lot to “fix” my expressions but it only helps so much and makes my face feel plastic but fear of standing out drives it. I’ve been trying to let the mask down but it’s so automatic now. I would wonder a lot what I was doing wrong, but yeah, nothing I could have changed that wouldn’t have hurt me, I’m just autistic. sorry for ranting here I do that a lot.

I can't decide an emotion from only eyes I need the whole context such as tone body language etc. I consider myself quite perceptive and on many occasions have had people shocked by how I could tell their mood etc. it might also be because ive become less social, before when i was more extroverted i would ace these tests so I'll take my score with a grain of salt 😂

6/6 guy, I grew up with an extremely manipulative mother. Every conversation was a battle to watch, exploit, and take control of a situation. Let the mask slip once and the other person knows something you don't want them to, so it's not only reading, but writing emotions into the context. This is helpful though, I can often know whether or not someone is trustworthy, I can't tell lies, but I can tell whether or not they're likely to lie. I can avoid toxic people, I can walk around situations without setting off any land mines, etc. Finally, I can help people, I can see what you feel in a given scenario, and I know how to interact to diffuse or help people. It's a great gift, but as I was taught from how much I hate my own mother, it's just as much a stick of dynamite, so be careful.

Fellow autistic person here (diagnosed when I was little and then other family members got diagnosed). I think we also need to separate emotional intelligence into sections, like being able to read what someone's facial expression is vs what someone may feel in a certain context. I have very strong empathy and I'm able to easily work out what someone is feeling if I am given the context, however, I really struggle to read people's facial expression, especially if I don't know the context. I would argue that being unable to read people's facial expression doesn't mean I have low emotional intelligence, because I am ridiculously empathetic, I just struggle to read expressions (funnily enough, especially from non-autistic people) which is a section of emotional intelligence, but I excel in another section of emotional intelligence.

I have autism yet still scored 6/6. For my fellow autismers or people who struggle, here’s some tricks I find useful: I find it easier to identify emotions by categorizing them in a polarized spectrum. Is it a calm or intense emotion? Is it positive or negative? Defensive or inviting? And lastly, clouded or sharp. (I might have mislabeled some of ‘em, but I think u get my point). By ruling them out one by one, you’ll have an easier time pinpointing the exact emotion. :D

@VigorousYouth.
@VigorousYouth. 3 ай бұрын
@@spicybeantofunot saying this person has it, but a lot of autistic people can’t do that eye contact it’s extremely uncomfortable and with some even cause pain. They can mask and train the skill, but they don’t like it. It’s not really something they can help. Their brain is just different. I also prefer not to hold eye contact it’s very uncomfortable. There are other cues you can read that aren’t in the face, such as body language or vocal tone to determine how someone is. Some people are good at masking their facial expressions so the face is not the most reliable source however body language can be very much more telling and more easy to spot and grasp, especially if the person shows common patterns. If they go against those patterns and start showing worrisome body language you can tell if you are about be harmed or not.

I got 5/6. I'm a woman with autism and high emotional intelligence(was officially diagnosed and was told by therapists that I have high emotional intelligence). I am constantly trying to decipher people's expressions, emotions, body language, words, and all that junk. I used to absolutely suck at it, but as the need and want to "fit in" got stronger, so did my masking and detection of people's expressions. It's a bit of a curse though, because now I know when people don't care about what I say or me in general. I used to be blissfully unaware thinking everyone was a friend if they weren't straight-up mean. On the bright side, it helps improve relationships, becoming friends, jobs, and so forth.
