You need to break the barrel in. Then you need to realize that most barrels have specific ammo types that they like. For precision, factory ammo doesn't usually cut it. If you're going to use factory ammo, buy as many brands as you can and shoot 5 shot groups with each brand. Then take the best group and shoot that ammo. Before any of that, make sure the barrel is broken in!!!
@loganconley75753 жыл бұрын
Very true!! New guns have brake in points that need to be Exceeded before trying to get your best Performance at longer distance. Also Different guns shoot better with different ammo. @@RyanSchwietersOutdoors Temperature, humidity, elevation, and wind from day to day changes point of impact and velocity with the same ammo. Has nothing to do with barrel break in. Everyone knows most bolt guns shoot better dirty since copper fills minor imperfections in the rifling from factory cutting. Ever notice how "break ins" start to shoot the best when you stop cleaning the barrel after every 1 to 3 shots? Getting a barrel dirty is not breaking it in. Lol.

Good luck and nice video.

When I was making a recipe up for my bench gun, it took a lot of time to work up that recipe, until I found out what my rifle wanted. You may run a lower quality Winchester round through the gun and be dead nuts on, then use a more expensive Federal round that seems to be of much higher quality and not be able to dial in a group at all, ammo is such a huge factor, try some different kinds of ammo, find out what the twist is in your barrel and research what the best weight of the bullet is for that twist. There's a certain satisfaction that's felt when you make your own ammo, I can load 100 rounds of .223/5.56, or 9mm, .40, or .45 etc, on my Dillon in about 15 minutes, but it takes me almost 8 hours to make 50 rounds of 6.5 Creedmoor, I make each one by hand, and they're all identical, I'll shoot 6 rounds at 100 yards, and I'll have only one hole in the paper, it's an oval hole, but there's only one.

If you're planning on shooting long range get a 6.5. They're one of the best in my opinion. They're a little bit bigger than a .243, but I know guys that have shot at elk with a 6.5 at 300 yards and hit dead center with hardly any hold over. But the 300 win mag and 308 might just need different scopes or different ammo. I know my dad's 300 shoots the best with 180 grain bullets, he's had sub moa groupings out at 250 yards I think. My 308 LOVES 150 grain hand loads I made for it. I've been able to hardly hold over a deer at 300 yards and have dropped them

Hey Sport, the usual method is to find a load or 2 that your individual rifle likes, that is shoots well in your rifle. Then you use that EXCLUSIVELY to hunt with. Once your rifle is sighted in and you use that ammo to test at long range you will then see how your gun shoots. Ya can't just jamb any old shit ammo into your rifle and expect it to work at it's best.
