On the first franken strat that didnt have a floyd rose, evh said he use to spin the ball end of the string while winding the peg, keeping twist out of the string untill it was tight. Also, if your dive bombing on a regular tremelo with out locking nuts, when you come back up give the bar a tug upwards, and tug it past the release point, so when you release the bar, it was coming down. The bar never pulls itself up in tune, but if you raise it a little bit before you release it, it pops the strings in tune better.

To be honest - on this one, I really like the vibe of it pretty much as is. This is a guitar that has seem some serious "stuff" and it has the scars and non-stock bits of hardware to prove it. I would have possibly put the rail pickup in the neck position and a black single coil into the middle. (maybe the original neck one with a black cover). Obviously all the wiring would need to be checked and it really did need that clean - but an early LTD, that has been hot-rodded with an SD Invader, a rail mini-bucker and Spurzel's is just COOL in my books. The non-matching saddle on the bridge is just part of it's charm.

The problem with the string is that those are staggered post. This does not work well with reverse headstocks because the ones that are further away from the nut have a smaller hole. They are expecting the B and High E string and not the low E and A string.

One of my coolest guitars from the 90's was a GTX copy of a Jackson. It had a reverse hockey stick headstock. Even with the cheap pickups it sounded pretty damn good. Got it for $35 from a neighbor of mine. I had it for about a year then gave it to my friend's son who was just getting into guitar.

I love finding those deals. A few years ago I bought three inexpensive guitars at my local Guitar Center all three were dirt cheap and just brought in. 50 for a Black Epi SG and 50 for neon green Dean ml and 99 for a BC Rich BICH. All three had Seymour Duncans that's 6 total Seymour Duncans just two alone were worth more than I paid for all three guitars. I did have to wait 30 days because in my city they have what they call a police hold just in case they get reported stolen. The only reason no one else bought them up was because of the hold. If I was going to keep that guitar I would have left the Invader and the rail pick up in the center and add another rail in the neck position. I would call that a piece of junk these guitars can be made to play and sound great with very little work. I am in the middle of a project guitar someone gave me, one of those Gibson/Baldwin they sold in dept stores. I plan on using an invader in the bridge, it's only a 1 PU guitar. To my surprise it had a PAF Gibson pick up in it that was actually wired wrong and someone replaced the nut with a bone one they also replace the bridge with an after market wrap around bridge . I already have someone who wants the PAF.

My expensive guitars are fun to work on but I’m also pretty stressed at the same time to be honest. I’m no luthier but I am a decent tech but still… makes me nervous when the guitars go north of a $800 value. 😱 Whereas working on my inexpensive guitars over the years is just plain relaxing and fun for me. It’s taught me so much through my mistakes and endeavors. You clearly enjoy yourself working on these axes and it’s always fun watching your vids. 🎸 😎👊

@@johnwhitaker545 that's crazy as hell! Mine was over an Ibanez UV777bk (the black 7 string Steve Vai one with pyramid inlays and mirror pick guard). Hell of a coincidence! I was homeless because of a bad situation and needed a place to stay and the only thing I had were the clothes on my back, my shoes, a bookbag of food that was running low and my guitar in its case. Was starting a new job so i needed to get a hotel room so I could shower up and rest safely. I gave the Ibanez to a guy that I knew and had done business with multiple times before in exchange for only 300 dollars because I told him I would be buying it back soon for 450 as long as he promised not to sell it or mess it up. I trusted him and he never gave me a reason not to because like I said, we had done similar business plenty of times before. My boss of that job I had just gotten told me I would get paid at the end of the first week so I told the dude I gave my guitar to that he would have his 450 at the end of the week and i'd get my Universe back. End of the week came and the scummy guy I was working for didn't have the cash to pay me till the next week and nothing I could do cuz I was working under the table. So I told that to the guy that had my guitar and begged him and even said I'd throw in more loot in addition to the 450 when I could and he promised he would keep it for me. I had done deals like that before with this dude but when it was time to get my guitar back, he was gone and I was out well over 3.5k. So I found out the hard way that the dude I was working for was a pos and the dude I had done business with plenty of times before was also a pos. I can't even say what I would do to that guy that disappeared with my guitar if I ever find him. As for the scummy boss I worked for shortly, he got his. Can't trust anyone and all I was trying to do was better myself. I miss that guitar like it were my own child. I should've just taken my chances on the dangerous streets with my guitar. Still makes me sick to this day.

Bargain! although I would have fined the owner the same amount for not looking after this guitar! If you are too lazy to look after a guitar then buy a cheap copy! I tried to check out that number on the fretboard, it isn't recognised by the serial number tool, it is most likely dated mid 80s to late 90s, without knowing the model it hard to narrow it down. I have locking tuners on a few guitars and I like to have at least 1.5 winds around the post, I just pinch a little bit of slack before I wind it up. Was that a little "Talk Dirty To Me" you were playing there Dane? And the start of "Looking At You" MC5 at the end?
