Hands Down the greatest music store in the entire world & it's almost in my back yard! I can drive there in less than 40 minutes & the only place I buy my musical equipment from. One of my nephew"s work there as well as some other friends. Great company & amazing story of how the owner got to grew from selling gear out his van to a dynasty.

No - not founded 19 - anything!! Chuck Serak is the owner but it wasn't built until 2010 when Sweetwater became an actual entity (brick and mortar building. Chuck was recording before but there was no Sweetwater Sound music company at that time. He was recording out of a VW bus when this all started. You can see a similar bus to the left in the new entrance hall. There are story boards and musical instruments and recording gear similar to what he had available at that time. He graduated to a goldenrod coloured house by the nineteen nineties. This was a house on a high hill on Bass Road. I know this because I drove by there many times and I was there once with a friend. This house was divided into two sections - one was the recording area and the other was his living area. I used to talk to him about needing a new area of operations for a store in town as we didn't have anything except for a couple mom and pop stores that no longer exist as of this writing. Me and several other people gave Chuck Serak the idea and the means to open Sweetwater - we were his inspiration. It became a juggernaut because of the Internet. First the building wasn't much bigger than a pole barn. He bought a space along highway 30 on the edge of town between Fort Wayne and Columbia City. This is on the corner of Kroemer Road and U.S. 30. It grew a little at a time and as it grew he expanded and kept expanding as there was no venue quite like it except for the Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum which the city kept dumping money into and forcing all the restaurants to pay a tax for since they were in the vicinity which how that happened I'll never know! But any way Sweetwater was changed several times and just recently they moved the gaming area over to where the old entrance was. The service center is now located where the old repair and warehouse where - this looks like a car dealership inside now with a wide open area where guitar strings and a few accessories and other ephemera and pedals are displayed. Further down are some other guitars and another service desk and ever further down are the guitar, bass, recording, piano and synthesizer, drums, used guitars, and service center are located. My cousin used to work there and my other cousin's ex-wife worked there as well. I also know one of the guys that works there as a Luthier - he had his own shop for a short time on Wallace Street. Sweetwater is no more than a fifteen minute drive from my house. And most of those employees are warehouse workers that send these products out to the sales floor and ship over the internet. My only guess as to why Chuck Serak would say "Founded in 1979" is because that's when he was first recording for a living but there was no Sweetwater then. It didn't even exist in the nineteen nineties! It wasn't until about 12 or so years ago when this became an actual building and company name. I know all this because I was there before this happened, while it was happening and still is.

Oh, my GOD!! I didn't know that you were there at Sweetwater Sound!!!!! I live fifteen minutes drive from there. I was there the same day that this video was posted. I played just about every guitar and keyboard and drum there. I was there to pick up a set of strings for my 12 string Fender acoustic. That Jeffs Gear is where they sell stuff on evilbay as well as in the store. I played that Teleacoustic on the wall - the one with the sunburst finish. It still sounds great and plays perfectly and the top is perfectly flat and not deformed. Most of those guitars have been there for the last month and a half. I played that same upright bass that you did in the video. The Sweetwater service center is next door. All this was different - they moved all the repairs and other luthery services upstairs and opened the wall for an entrance door in that wing. The old entrance is where all the games and electronic toys in the main hall are now. I got a picture of Billy Gibbons' ZZ Top Eliminator car in that hall. The part where all the guitars are now that looks like a car dealership is the new part (somewhat) as it was where they fixed guitars and part of the warehouse used to be. I didn't know that the slide was for people to go down - I usually only see kids or staff members using it. The restaraunt downstairs is kind of a joke because not everything is available everyday when you go to the counter. Also the little kiosks with the cash registers are sparsely laid out with little to offer in the way of healthy snacks. Don't feel bad - I didn't know about the salon either. That's only for employees and not the general public. That's why it's upstairs. I met Chuck Serak when there was no Sweetwater and he was coming to the Fort Wayne Blues Society jams on Tuesdays at Billy's USA Bar & Grill on Getz Road. We used to talk about needing a more professional music store in town rather than the mom and pop places that were here and are now gone. He was recording out of his house instead of his VW bus that you see to the left when you come into the new entrance. That was on Bass Road but now a new housing edition stands where the hill was the Chuck's goldenrod coloured house was. We had a lot of good times there at Billy's bar. It's a salon now - I just drove by there today on my way back from the dentist. Any way I wish that I knew you were coming - I would've loved to get a picture and an autograph while you were here in town! Thank you for sharing your Sweetwater experience with me and the rest of the world!!
