This team's biggest threat now is injuries. I love that I think we're seeing a small comeback of the big men in basketball. It's not that post-ups are great offensively, but proper screens and inside threats open up the outside threat, as well as the backcourt drives. Rebounding has also been ignored for too long. On defence everyone has been so busy finding wing defenders, they forgot there's nothing you can do on the perimeter, if you always need to collapse the defence for any penetration. A good rim presence disallows the drives without help, forcing long twos or giving the perimeter defence a chance to contest Basketball is a holistic game, and you can't leave areas unchecked if you want to win. A balanced game with multiple threats, and solid inside-out defence wins games, series, and chips.

As a Mavs fan I agree. I had some heated conversations before our series with some Thunder fans. My point was that the Thunder lack PO experience and size/physicality. Thunder fans thought those points are not that important. Well, they were. Now BOTH problems got adressed and fixed... in a nearly perfect way. And the franchise didnt even have to give up one pick to get there... Caruso has Championship experience and is one of the 3 best 3&D perimeter roleplayers in the league. And I Hart is just perfect as a true big Center to provide Chet with the help he needs banging down low and securing rebounds. And he also has already proven in 2 PO runs that his impact is as good in the postseason. Only thing missing is Hartenstein shooting 3's like Lopez... but thank god he cant, cause that would be just unfair! 😋 Bearing big injuries 60+ wins is the minimum for me. If your team is the healthiest team in the league again (like last season), even 65 should be possible. Playoffs? Well lets wait and see. But right now I think (hope) we could get a OKC vs DAL rematch in the WCF, cause I think our teams are the 2 best in the west. Dallas just has to stay somewhat healthy (we were by far the most injured WC playoff team last season) and reach a top 3 seed first... 🤨

A couple of clarifications: His defensive rebounding is crazy good. He was just contesting and making the opponent miss, which leaves him out of position to rebound, or he was boxing out for players like Josh Hart to rebound. That's why the Knicks were a pretty good defensive rebounding team while being severely undersized with Randle, Mitch, OG, and others injured most of the season. Also, Hartenstein literally led the league in 3-point% as a Clipper (yes, you are reading this right). It was on low attempts, but high enough to show he CAN shoot if you want him to (Thibs didn't let him do it). No offense, but you should check the stats before making this video. Also, he is far better than Sabonis at literally everything: passing, scoring, shooting, defending-EVERYTHING.
@trout53745 ай бұрын
Definitely not a better rebounder or passer than Sabonis
@audio86855 ай бұрын
@@trout5374 It’s hard to PROVE because of their different roles, different USG%, etc., but for example, at 22 years old their usage was comparable. Sabonis had a 23.5 USG% and an AST% of 18.2 while Hartenstein had 19.6 USG% and 22.8 AST%, which means he had LESS usage and a BETTER AST%. Like I said, it’s hard to prove because it’s all about potential with Hartenstein as he never got the chance like Sabonis does. But if he had the freedom to play like Sabonis, he would be the best passer in the league, maybe better than Jokic. As a rebounder, Hartenstein is much better, especially as an offensive rebounder, and his teams always do much better in overall rebounding because of how he boxes out for his teammates and his high motor. I don’t need to write the stats because it’s just obvious for anyone that watched both, but these are some of the multiple reasons Hartenstein’s net rating, advanced stats, and impact are miles ahead of Sabonis. They are not really comparable. Hartenstein is on a different tier, he just didn’t have the high minutes and usage for people to care.

They have 2 years now before the J-Dub and Chet Max extensions (we all agree both will get the Max, right?) kick in. Then this roster will be deep in the Lux Tax and also well over the 2nd apron. And Presti already said that they will not go over that 2nd line. Means in 2026 some changes need to be made. The great thing is they have so many picks, and Presti is (at least for me) the best GM if it comes to finding talent, that they should be able to find cheaper versions of some roleplayers. But 3 Max guys (one even Supermax) under the current rules is hard for any team, let alone a small market team like OKC... Ad the 26 mio of Hartenstein and its basically impossible to keep all the other roleplayers, who are not on a rookie contract, on the roster. Problem for my Mavs... we have basically the same window, just for other reasons. Kyrie/Klay getting old at that point and need new contracts, same as PJ and Gafford and on top Luka's Super-Super 60+ Mio contract will kick in in 2026 as well. So I am looking forward to some hard battles over the next 2 seasons with both teams being at the top of the West. After that? Its really hard to predict what will happen.

Thibs didn’t fully understand how to use him until Mitch got hurt. I will say his unwillingness to put up 1-2 3’s a game is what hurts him the most. So many times he’ll be left alone at the top of the key which stagnates offense as someone is getting double teamed or Atleast shadowed

Mans played 25 min average and had more rebounds, tied his career high assists average and shot 64% from the Field. Not to mention once he started Knicks were better offensively and defensively. No other team could say they did better with I hart on the court which is why they let him walk
@audio86856 ай бұрын
@@LordAnt611 I watched every single Hartenstein game, including every single Knicks game watching RJ and Randle taking turns in bad iso after bad iso, which was the worst experience of my whole life, and I'm not even joking. Your take about other teams not being able to say Hartenstein made them better is as infuriating as it is stupid (no offense, I like you, but it's just stupid for real). You can watch the net rating or any stat, and it shows that he made literally every team better, including the Denver Nuggets. He literally made the Nuggets better with him than playing FUCKING JOKIC (for some reason KZbin doesn't let me show links, I was trying to send links to his net rating and other stuff). You can also ask any fan if they would like Hartenstein back on their team, and literally no one would think twice. Every single franchise realized their mistake of letting him go eventually. And don't get me started on the stats because I could go on for hours. So I will just point out the most basic stuff for you to understand: As a Clipper, not only did he lead the NBA in 3P% for anyone with 30 or more attempts (which means he should shoot more, but they didn't let him do it in New York), but he also had a PER of 22, an AST% of 20.5, a BLK% of 5.4, a TS% of .664, and pretty much every advanced stat higher than as a Knick, because there his USG% was 18.4, which was much higher, so he was able to do more. As a Knick, he had a PER of 16.7, an AST% of 11.1 (damn, this was criminal), a BLK% of 4.0, a TS% of .623, and an USG% of 11.6 (one of the lowest in the whole league). Also, as a Cav, pretty much every stat was higher too. I know you are just a Knicks fan who doesn't know anything about Hartenstein and hears constantly the narrative of Thibs improving players, but he treated Hartenstein like he was Mitch and didn't let him do anything. That's why, even when he was still arguably the best Knicks player in terms of impact, the coaches didn't let him do anything and reduced his impact drastically. It wasn't him being unwilling to shoot; it was the role he was FORCED into, and he is telling us that in the new OKC interviews from today. And that's why the Knicks, just like the Clippers or Cavs, will miss out on winning the championships OKC will win, just because they were stupid and didn't let Hartenstein do his thing.

I said it 2 years ago, and even more last summer. The Porter Max is killing you! A small market team can not work over the 2nd apron. Your team shouldve tryed to break that contract up into at least 2 solid roleplayers last summer. Not sure they can do it now... But with his money on the roster, the Nuggets just have no chance to get a decent bench. My idea was Bogdanovic/Burks vs Porter to Detroit last summer. Bogdanovic could replace Porters role as a starter and high volume 3P shooter 1on1 and Burks wouldve been a good bench piece as well. He isnt Bruce Brown, but he is a solid 3&D guy who can also somewhat create for others. Now? I dont see a move like that...
@michaelbietsch28646 ай бұрын
@Smido83 that works offensively, sure, but despite his terrible reputation as a defender, MPJ is extremely important for our scheme. His height and length are necessary to allow Jokic to play at the level of the screen, where he's at his best. Him and AG need to fly in the background to be effective. And offensively, even when his shot isn't falling, teams can't just risk him being open, we saw him miss every shot vs. the wolves, and they STILL had Mcdaniels drapped all over him. Being a small market that HAS to overpay market value to keep our role players sucks, but that's a reality that will always happen given how Jokic elevates teamates - inflating their value
@Smido836 ай бұрын
@@michaelbietsch2864 Bogdanovic has a bad reputation as a defender, but as long as he doesnt have to be the POA defender, is is pretty decent. That being said, of course he is a bit smaller. On the other hand Burks can be a PoA defender off the bench, so overall the roster wouldnt loose much on offense and defense... BUT had they made the trade, KCP would still be on the roster right now... thats the point! Is MPJ alone worth as much as KCP+Bogdanovic+Burks? MPJ earns 36 mio Bogdanovic 19, KCP just signed for 21 in the 1st year and Burks just signed a vet min deal. Means a slight overpay and he mightve stayed as well (10/2 2nd year player option). So 45 Mio for 3 wings or 36 mio for one... btw the team would still be under the 2nd Tax Apron... Specially as a small market team you have to find the right moments to bank in on your assets. Denver did a great job getting Gordon and KCP for pennys on the Dollar. They missed the right moment with Porter when his value was at the peak.

OKC got worse with the Giddey/Caruso trade but got better adding Hartenstein. That being said everybody needs to understand that Presti gave away Sengun and Lively who I think are both better players, specifically Sengun who averaged 21/9/5 last season and will be an all star at some point. Funny that nobody is talking about him giving that guy away. Presti is a phenomenal GM and doing an excellent job but he's not without his fair share of complete blunders and the worst of all time trading Harden.

Also, have you ever heard of player development and guys improving on defense? That's what coaching is for. Also if you put Lively on OKC last year they might very well have won it all and they most certainly would have gotten past Dallas. Lively is a big part of why they beat us. Yes yes yes, especially in case chet or Isaiah get injured. But we need a backup 7 footer that can DEFEND and shoot 3's. If you dont want your big man playing getting exhausted trying to get back to defend fast break situations, he needs to be able to hang at the 3 point line on offense. The Love for small ball will fade (is fading already) because taller is ALWAYS better as long as all other things like mobility are equal. Small ball beats slow lumbering big men all day every day. But a quick agile big that can shoot 3's is PRICELESS.

lol... the Thunder were by far the healthiest team in the League last season. How much more injury luck do they need? The OKC starting 5 played 63 games together... name any other PO team with a starting 5 over 60 games. As a comparison: Minnesota 44 games, Boston 37, Indiana 25, Dallas 16 (after the trade) + 10 (before)... just to name the 4 conference finals teams. Want more? Denver 48, New York 10 (after the OG trade) + 12 and 14 before, Cleveland 28... so no other teams starting 5, that reached the 2nd round, even got to 50 games together. If anything, get ready for LESS injury luck. Cause that wasnt normal!

They were the healthiest team in 2022/23... reached the 3rd seed. This season they had normal injury problems... missed the playoffs. And none of their rotation guys is known as injury prone as well! @@Smido83 i understand the original comment and my argument is that injury luck applies for everyone so it stupid to criticize a team for having it because typically if your team is more healthy you win more games it that simple so his argument still stands if shai didn’t get hurt they probably win 60 games and if others team were healthy they probably win. Also the kings was the only example that still didn’t disprove my argument of the teams you named have injury prone players so I can’t criticize okc because they don’t get injured when teams like Dallas have guys kyrie on their team
