The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an 8-bit home video game console developed and released by Nintendo. Initially launched in Japan as the Family Computer (Famicom) in 1983, it was later released in North America in 1985 and in Europe during the following years. The NES is credited with revitalizing the video game industry after the video game crash of 1983, establishing the standard for subsequent consoles with its game cartridge format and introducing iconic franchises such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid. The console featured a simple yet effective design, with a rectangular controller that included a directional pad, two action buttons, and Start and Select buttons. Oh absolutely! It isn’t too hard to get into either. Picks up as you go and once I had a couple runs through I wanted to play more. Definitely appreciate these passion projects and people who love the physical media.

Hobbyists are always making new games for old systems, and some of them are really cleverly written! A few years ago, some hobbyists released a new game for the Atari 7800 called _Rikki and Vikki_ that looks really fun. (It is a puzzle/platform type of game.) Regrettably, all of its physical cartridges have now sold out, but I saw someone selling one of them on eBay for $500! (It is also possible to buy a port of the game for Windows.)

Yes! I love it! And that’s crazy! Some of the newer limited release games are going for much more. It’s crazy to see the interest in these bidding wars on them too. I just love the passion that goes into these “newer” games on old systems.
