I am in the process of completing my run of X-Men 94-200 with that being said my funds are going to complete the run and then upgrade over time. It's hard to justify spending high amounts on a 9.8 when I could get close to completion using those funds and then down the road upgrade my ungraded X-Men #96 for a graded copy. I was surprised to see those X-Men sitting on your site and wished I had unlimited funds to snap them up but don't at this time. I think you are right that there is a 9.8 niche and its possible those in that market already have a copies of those books.

Nobody is going to spend 9.8 money on anything that's not a major, major key to fill a run. To me, graded comics are more to display and flex what your best comic is. I couldn't buy a 9.8 key just to put it in a box to be stored forever. Maybe that's just me though.

Everything will sell at the right price. Right now the prices you have mentioned are too high for the people that are currently buying them and you will have to lower the price if you want them to sell now or fairly soon. Otherwise keep them at your price, it may take weeks into years for them to sell, take the lower money now or higher money later. If your return will be greater than 10% per year when it sells you have made good money on the investment.

I don’t think they’re overpriced with very recent comps higher…I think it’s just harder to find the right buyer, but yeah I definitely won’t be holding them for a year

@ the person that’s doing the selling always thinks they’re not overpriced. The people doing the buying right now at this point in time think they’re overpriced , otherwise they would have sold. It’s up to the seller , in this case you, to decide on how long to keep it at a price you desire, regardless of past comps. I hope u sell them for what u want , everything has a price they will sell at, even the chair you are sitting on when you made this video.

I am LMAO!! This video is Spot on! I actually have been looking hard at the X-Men #98 (just because of Wolverine's 1st unmasking/claws apart of him, etc.). But not the #96 though... because I just think.... "Meh" for that issue! I have also looked at Avengers #8 several times, just because it is such a super nice copy!!! Lastly, I have been wanting to pull the trigger on the Justice League #1 as well. My only issue is that I have to weigh the question; _"Do I pick up these books now, or do I use this money to pay off my BM#1 first?"_ I think once I have that dang book over and done with, I will be picking up even more goodies from your store! BTW, have you ever thought about expanding the 10% to your big boy books as well? Or maybe, do that like 1 day a month to see if anyone hops on these more expensive beauties? Great vid as always!!

96 was hot a few years ago and I think was the higher priced of the two. 98 is not a key though. I don’t recall it ever being referred to as such. 96 is a first appearance at least.

Great video as always, Bry! It’s wild to see certain key issues sitting despite their historical significance and relative rarity. Seems like the market is still in a weird correction phase where even solid investments are getting overlooked. I wonder if buyers are just hesitant to pull the trigger, waiting for prices to drop even further, or if there’s just too much focus on modern spec books instead of proven keys. Some of those really surprise me-those are grails for a lot of collectors. Maybe this is just the perfect time for patient buyers to scoop up long-term holds at a discount. Either way, love the insight and transparency you bring to these market trends. Keep up the great work!

I have the new Xmen run from GSX#1 - #110. They are all in 9.0 or better. Usually when I get a book in a super high grade that is not a key or grail I sell or trade it for a key. I just got a ASM #14 . I just sent it off for grading. I also have another copy that’s a 6.5. The higher grade I will sell or trade because I already have a really nice copy either way and there are other big books I want.

It’s interesting to see keys going down so much in value. You aren’t the only one on YT that have brought this up. Perhaps it’s just a slight lull right now. Maybe there’s an uptick in modern comics that’s causing the draw.

Bry do you have a key book value range which offers the most financial reward. IE selling one $3000 book vs 2 $750 vs 4 $375. I imagine books move much quicker correlated to inverse price (lower sell faster) but then your gross profit must weigh ie you can sell 30 x $25 books for a 20% profit ea ie $150 profit or one $750 book for the same $150 profit. The higher you go the % profit on a larger number is better BUT you get to a point where getting someone to pay $3k (or whatever) plus for a book means it could sit for 6 months vs you could shift 50 at $300. Sorry for the ramble, I wish it was more concise but I hope Ive carried my point. Do you find a pricing sweet spot where the books move but you still get a decent profit from its sale eg ASM 252, would you rather have 5 copies of 9.0, 4 of 9.2, 3 of 9.4, 2 of 9.6 or 1 of 9.8 (I know that they dont go up linear, but assuming they did). I just read X-Men 98 last night! But there isn't such a thing a sub 100 X-Men collector out their. Most sub 100s are reprints. X-Men collectors are 94 up.

That's called shill bidding and not as easy to get away with as you would think but it does happen a lot. You could get your IP address banned if Ebay suspects you are shill bidding and then non payment on your own items.

In today’s ever more advancing technocracy, I cld easily run my personal IP through any number of programs and systems to spoof it and make it look different, but most wld not even waste their time doing so, bc eBay doesn’t really care either way, as long as they get paid their fee. Therefore, IMO shill bidding is not difficult whatsoever, in any sense of the word. Also, the “shill dealer” could just use one of their close/best customers to bid AND PAY for whatever the shill price was. FYI, Non-paid eBay transactions will not show up on gpa analysis indefinitely. They might initially for a short time, but when eBay eventually defines the sale as not-paid for, it will eventually drop from GPAA’s dataset. Then, the shill-dealer cld simply manipulate the reality of said sale, to either write off their loss (eBay fees etc) on their taxes, or maybe give their “shill bidding fiend” (I mean friend) some “store credit” towards their next purchase w/ said dealer, or whaaaaatever nefarious deal they’ve imagine and set in motion. This is what truly worries me about America; how naive, uneducated, and extensively gullible (most of) our population is. Lastly, if you think my super-quick theory explained here holds any truth/possibility, THEN just imagine what the extremely wealthy (1%ers) pull off everyday… Rant temporarily paused.

Bry the X-men #98... is a minor key for 5k !!! I bought a X-men #1 in 3.5 for 5k a Hulk #181 in 9.0 for 5k. The people who are willing to do that is very minimal. Ive seen Spidey #1 in 1.0 for 5k or less. I think that people are looking for actual keys and the 9.8 or bust crowd died.

The vast majority of comic book buyers are ordinary folk. Of course i would love an Xmen 98, but for 5 Grand i could buy a CAR - no one with a normal job is going to pay that for a comic, especially when it's not even a major key.
