I will admit that I wish that the series didn't cut this part of Camila's conversation with Luz. It does more to expand on Camila's relationship with Luz's father, as well as explain her choices with Luz. Having this scene in the series proper would just be beneficial.

This sheds so much light on why Camila tried so hard to keep Luz “normal.” In truth, she was grieving and it was easier to shut down and move on then accept her feelings. But in doing so, she brought up her daughter with the same unhealthy standards society pushed on her, and followed others advice over her own motherly instincts when it came to raising her. Camila isn’t a bad parent, she’s just a broken one.

I feel like it doesn’t cut out TOO much. We can tell from context clues both camila and manny bonded over Star Trek. Additionally, in camila’s nightmare we know that she panicked and made the wrong choice cause she was bullied, and didn’t want the same for Luz. It’s a show not tell in the way we revived this information. So the scene is also shorter and gets to the point, making it more effective.

And I think something else to consider is that Luz was likely born around 2008- the year that Cosmic Frontier supposedly took place. (Seeing as Luz is around 14 at the start of the show) Luz isn't just "the light glyph". She's the embodiment of those supernovas and solar winds to Camila and Manny.

I will never forgive disney for villinaizing Camillia's actions to this degree. I loved the idea that Luz had to realize that she had an impulse problem with her hobbies and had to learn to control her impulsiveness and learn that there is a time and place for her to act in such a way. Instead they made is so that almost all of what Luz wanted was in the boiling Isles. It felt wrong, like they were saying that anyone like Luz, (Not straight, neural divergent, etc) didn't belong in normal society and should just find another place to be. The camp wasn't some straight camp nor should it have been made to look like it was trying to squash creativity.

I would imagine that they had been pressed to keep things to a certain time span (or whatever the correct term is) which is why this had to be cut. Little scenes like this get cut from shows a lot it seems, which is sad but understandable when you remember that removing a different scene that’s more action heavy could mess up the flow of the episode
