I got called by the friend of a group who went to a remote lake for a day of swimming and didn't make it back. The caller had gotten a very broken phone call from them that they had slid into the ditch and needed winched out. The reality of the situation turned out to be much worse as they had slid off the road into a ravine, and luckily got hung up on a large stump that stopped them from tumbling to the bottom, but unfortunately damaged their fender and door when it did. I used a mixture of @YankumRopes and @harborfreight recovery gear to rig it all up, then pulled it out with my Badlands Apex winch using a Chevy Duramax as an anchor to help with the pull

@@CaseyLaDelle yeah that makes sense. 20 years ago when I was doing heavy recovery normal calls were $150 an hour, and emergency or technical recoveries were $300 an hour port to port. The big tractor trailer rollovers you see on the news would often be $10k to $20k way back then depending on how much equipment we had to bring in. Probably twice that now With the cost of equipment, fuel, and labor today it has to be more than that. I'm sure with fuel prices you have to add a fuel surcharge.

Subject to the condition of the vehicle at its Millage. $3,300.00 ish was the total cost and the blue book value was $7,300.00 It was fixed! This reminded me of a similar event outside Flagstaff, AZ. 3 girls skipped class and went out into the forest. They slid off the road and rolled down an embankment. The passengers had seat belts on but the driver did not and was ejected on the way down. Their SUV landed upside down at the bottom of the ravine. After the passengers unbuckled they heard the driver calling for help but could not find her at first. She was trapped under the vehicle. The roof had caved in lengthwise in a V shape and she was trapped in the V! It took several hours for rescuers to get her out. She was uninjured except for a lot of bruises and a sprained (maybe broken, don't remember) ankle! She even wanted to climb back up to the road under her own power, but the rescuers said no. One in a million!

Casey you are very observant seeing tracks in the dirt at night! You have definitely learned your trade well. This country is built on tradesmen!

You're the best Casey! Wonder how they went over into the ditch? The road was plenty wide. Glad no one got hurt and they were able to drive it out.

Thanks Casey for the great video!! Night time is the worst for that kind of job. Visibility is very important in assessing the situation. Your lights and experience paid off again!! I can't believe they were able to drive that thing home!! LUCKY!!!!

Great nite time recovery Casey and Alex. Funny how the description of the vehicle changes when you get there. Like you said Casey, had you been given the right vehicle description, you would have brought the appropriate vehicle. 🤙😎

Gotta love misinformation. I see this on every channel. Folks don't realize that good information will make a difference and certainly alleviate undo hardships on the person doing the recovery. It is a big unknown what you're headed into when you do recoveries especially in Timbuktu middle of the night. Great video, thank you for all you do for these folks. Stay safe and GOD bless

I'm thinking that whoever was in that vehicle got freaked out when it went over the edge and down the side!!! I also think that whoever owns the Chevy is going to have something to say about what happened to it. I'm just glad that only their pride got hurt.

Your generosity is impressive. If I was the customer I would have insisted you at least accept enough to cover your gas or I would have been mad at myself every time I thought back to that night/trip. Sorry if you disagree but that is just the way I know I would feel.
