0:41 VERY interesting--I always saw the lyrics "for twenty years I never could outGROW YOU--" as bitter on Telemachus's part; after all, the suitors mocked him by comparing him to his stranger of a father. But here, he's almost embracing the pride the myth of his father gave him, and how that motivated him and led him here. I think that's beautiful.

Earlier: Telemachus: 'Mother, I hate these vile suitors, they never leave, they all want to claim you as Queen just so they can rule as King. Let me fight them!' Penelope: 'My son, you are brave and bold, but it is age and treachery that can defeat youth and skill. If you oppose the suitors, they would unite and kill you. But if only your father was here . . . he would think of a plan to deal with them all in one fell swoop.' Later: Following Odysseus and Telemachus' revenge on the suitors. Nice to meet a man who lives up to his legend.

I really loved the reunion part in the Odyssey, where Odysseus disguised (thanks to Athena) as a beggar and after meeting Telemachus Athena suddenly pops out of nowhere (to only Odysseus) and pulls off his disguise (basically telling Ody that "your time has come to stop being the absent dad, now have an emotional moment with your son!"). Telemachus (after some inital doubt, like mother like son) jumps into his fathers arms and begins weeping as they hold eachother. Pause for a moment to absorb the feels. Anyway the point I was trying to make was your animatic does a great job at recreating that heartwarming feeling you get from reading the reunion for the first time. Fantastic job!

*HOLY CRAP ITS WAY TOO EARLY FOR THIS BUT I APPRECIATE THIS AND LOVE THIS SO MUCH-* Okay, time for a lil analyzing- I don’t know if anyone noticed this, or I may be overthinking this, but at 0:15, notice how Telemachus’ pose is similar to Penelope’s in The Challenge animatic. The lyric is adding to this as well, “Thought about your name so much, it hurts.” Once again, I may be overthinking this, but this has to be intentional, with Telemachus most likely saying what Penelope was thinking for at least 20 years while Odysseus was gone.

I’m trying to limit how much I listen to future sagas since the remastered releases is my first go at Epic but I couldn’t help to watch this bc it’s a Gigi Telemachus animation and I have become a caricature of myself with how much I am endeared to him in your work. GOSH. I frankly don’t know how this song goes, vaguely remember the context and how it was in the Homeric poem, but your animatic makes me SO EXCITED to hear this song in full after all the buildup. I already feel the incredible emotion from this, Telemachus is so full of longing and as if he can’t believe it but he’s so overjoyed, and aaaaa to see how much Odysseus has aged, his hair grown, yet he is so recognizable our (or rather, YOUR) Odysseus is so moving. Father and son relationships and reunions are a trope i find myself falling for more often and this makes my brain vibrate at rates unknown to man.

AAAH! The way you animated this is just so powerful. Like, the way you showed Telemachus hiding his tears was so meaningful to me. It's like he feels that he has to hide his emotions and be strong because he's seeing his father for the first time. And the way Odysseus softens and puts his bow down then he realizes who's approaching him? DHSGAKJH. And the way Odysseus can only watch as he finally sees his son after 20 years away is just so poetic. Like, he's literally unable to move or do anything out of just PURE JOY because he's able to see the one person he loves most in his life. I love this animatic

So, very useless but I wanna share the original meeting of Telemachus and Odysseus: Odysseus is disguised as a beggar and meets with an old servent of his, a swineherd, who welcomes him in his shed and gives him food and drinks. Telemachus goes to the same place to greet said servent, since he has been travelling overseas in hopes of finding his father. Telemachus thinks the beggar is just a normal person, Odysseus instead has to keep silent in order to not let his disguise fail, while seeing his own son not recognize him. Once the swineherd is gone, Athena appears to Odysessus but not Telemachus, and decides to make Odysseus his old self again just to reunite with his son. As soon as Telemachus sees him with a totally different look, he asks hims if he's a God able to shapeshift, to which Odysseus answears by admitting he's his father and kissing his forehead as he cries the tears he had been holding back. Telemachus doesn't believe him, and rather thinks this must be just a trick from the gods to make him suffer more (poor boy) and Ody reveals about Athena and his disguise as he sits down and reassures him he's his real father. After he's done explaining, Telemachus now convinced doesn't think twice and hugs his father tightly as they break down crying and yell in pure compassion. They keep on crying and hugging each other for hours even as sundown, just until Telemachus asks Odysseus how he came back, which leads to them plotting on how to kill the Suitors.
