There's an uncommon/unknown gambit you can do if you study it enough. I haven't played games with it as I don't play e4 that much. However, here is the gambit if you're interested: 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 4. f4 Here is a critical line if they ignore it with Nc6: 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 4. f4 Nc6 5. Nf3 e6 6. d3 Be7 7. g3 O-O 8. Bg2 b5 9. a4 Qa5 10. O-O The idea is that if they don't take the pawn on f4 you go d3 instead of d4 and don't allow the counterplay on the dark squares: 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 4. f4 e6 5. Nf3 Qc7 6. d3 d6 7. g3 dxe5 8. fxe5 Nc6 9. Qe2 If they take the pawn you can get tempos on the knight with d4 and the following lines: 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 4. f4 Nxf4 5. d4 Nd5 6. c4 Nc7 7. d5 d6 8. Nf3 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 4. f4 Nxf4 5. d4 Ng6 6. h4 cxd4 7. cxd4 e6 8. h5 Ne7 9. Nf3 One last line/trap I'd like to show if they delay taking the f4 pawn with Nc6: 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 4. f4 Nc6 5. Nf3 Nxf4 6. d4 Nd5 7. c4 Nc7 8. d5 Nd4 9. Nxd4 cxd4 10. Qxd4 Unfortunately, the opponent could also play g6 and d6 instead of taking which you'll probably want to look at as well. If you don't want to gambit, you could just go d3 first and then f4: 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. d3 Nc6 4. f4

I'm sorry but your glasses trick does not make sense to me because gambits happens in almost every game. Some guy who rarely play gambits could use it, you, on the other hand, should wear gambit glasses all the time.. or never. Also, 500-700 lower rated opponents is no fun. They are dumb as hell no matter what you play.

William, imho you are missing the point. You could also argue a lot of Morphy's opponents were dumb as hell (compared to him), that does not make the games less instructive. It is through bad play and mistakes that one gets to show nice plans and attacks. His audience are casual/club players probably, and it surely is good enough for them. He also played a higher rated opponent (2500+ if my eyes don't decieve me).
