Everyone I talk to refuses to watch this movie and no longer talks to me. I will not be silenced.

When I first saw this movie I hated it. It was marketed as a spooky house horror, with that stunning overhead shot of her running around the house, and I come in and it’s NOT THAT. But I couldn’t stop thinking about this movie and honestly haven’t. It just has all the camp, visuals, over the top gore that makes it so much fun. It never gets boring and that’s truly what you want in horror. I show all my friends this movie and they either love it or appreciate it’s weirdness and how it embraces it. I think this will be a cult classic for a long time. Truly the best for having friends or a large group over and just enjoying the madness of this film together 😁 Gabriel is a classic movie monster for the ages, and I’ve become a full on James Wan stan because of Malignant 👻

It actually had the opposite effect on me. I thought it was going to be a haunted house movie (my least favorite type of horror), but got a campy slasher instead. It is ridiculously fun and Gabriel instantly became one of my favorite slashers because of it.

This movie makes me insane, in the best way. I also have not stopped thinking about it since I saw it in a mostly empty theatre, where I watched in awe and horror with my head in my hands, quietly whispering “what the fuck what the fuck” over and over. Everything in this essay slaps hard, your brain is so big. I can’t stop thinking about how Gabriel can also be seen as a physical manifestation of internalized self hatred, the ugly, angry part of oneself that grows to despise one’s own personhood, because of an upbringing that was void of necessary love, attention, and support. They share a brain, if Emily grew up always thinking she and Gabriel were mistakes, or freaks, and robbed of a normal childhood at the mercy of medical science, of course her internalized thoughts of “I am weird, I am unwanted” becomes Gabriel’s only thoughts too, and since he definietly was never given a shred of dignity or personhood from anyone else, unlike what Emily was given, he only thinks of himself as the monster, the unwanted. BUT ANYWAY, great video, great movie, James Wan please give us Malignant 2: Trans Trauma Twins Boogaloo

I LOVE THIS COMMENT!!! malignant is so good and so insane because YEAH gabriel is a literal manifestation of everything that emily/madison hates about herself, her guilt, her trauma, her sickness, WHILE ALSO BEING A LITERAL BODY HORROR THING ON THE BACK OF HER HEAD!! pure genius!!

Damn girl just watched a few of your videos and wanted to say your content is purely amazing. Super detailed yet understandable and entertaining. The connection to queerness rly opened my eyes to a big part of the horror genre that i hadn't fully understood yet. Keep it up 👻
