Me and my friends back in the original game did this for dueling. We called it stick fighting/fighting with sticks. Only rules were weapon had to be ondals staff since most people had it.

@@looter_game Maybe clearing the surrounding area would have given you some space to retreat into. Then, using howl to keep the group at bay, you could use taunt to lure the monsters out one at a time so you can fight them more safely. With a bit of luck and/or technique, maybe you could've even lured them outside the aura radius, increasing safety even more. But: if your primary goal is to entertain you very much succeeded!

Staves can have really good ias and you have a chance at finding a ribcracker, also 50% increased damage to undead. Imo they're not a bad option at all, ribcracker berserk barbarian would actually be really good.

No it was always the case ;-) Unlike daggers for example, that received no bonus from any mastery then sword mastery was renamed blade mastery in 2.4 and daggers are now included :)

Back in classic D2 days I levelled a HC druid up to 68 on closed Battlenet over a 33k dialup modem from Australia. That was as far as I got him, it was too stressful. Between the lag and players joining to try to PK you, it was quite the stressful experience. Heck I even used a cheat that quick exited the game if someone went hostile to me. You sorta had to, people would TP back to town, go hostile, then instantly return and 1 shot you.
