Doug got me into carving with his how to carve a bear video. For all of you reading this comment who haven't tried carving yet, you can't go wrong with Doug's videos. By the way he is pretty darned good at bushcraft as well.

I always prefer goose to turkey i find turkey too dry especially when made of bark.

This is great, but I am starting to believe that to be a good wood carver, you must have more artistic ability than I already have (and he’s ambidextrous, too!). 🤪😂. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Great video as always. There’s always something to learn. I never thought about the predator vs prey eye setting, but it makes perfect sense and is quite helpful when developing a carving - head position, etc. Thank you!

It's the carving fading back into the natural looks really cool. I don't mind the no talking carving, to me it is relaxing just hearing the shaving sounds and watching.

Do you have a book...love to carve but can't find patterns or techniques...watch your videos but it's so aggravating to pause and play while carving...love your work...thanks

Did you have to let the bark cure before you carve it? If so, how long?

Bark is not ready until it falls off the tree itself -it’s always taken from dead trees

Hey Doug. I’m sorry I’m not sure what you mean by bark. I’m in the uk and think we may use different words. Is this just a piece of wood with the bark left on? Or is it some kind of very thick bark? If you don’t mind me asking what kind of wood is it? Is it green or seasoned?

It is cottonwood bark -all bark no wood. This size comes from British Columbia

@@dougLinker amazing thanks mate. Not sure I’ll get that in the uk. Even getting a nice carving wood is tricky. We have lime which is pretty similar to bass I think. Really interesting to know though thanks! I’m hammering our your 5 minute wizards atm. Gandalf has never looked so good!
