In the Allegan State Game Area Swan Creek North of Swan Creek Pond for some trout and Steelhead. Swank Creek south of the pond for the chance at a nice Brown Trout, it is beautiful but difficult to fish , very heavily wooded with tall, steep banks. Swan creek flows from South to North as a tributary to the Kalamazoo River. Also, Bear Creek in the Allegan SGA is quite interesting. There is a treasure trove of good fishing streams in West Michigan.

@@themichiganangler4746 This video shows the tremendous aggression that a mature brown takes when triggering him in his territory. Been hitting the hogs for years with big streamer flies that trigger this type of fish to set off their aggressive response. Much like bass fishing or big cat cat fishing they try and hit that bait and stun it then repeat for the meal. Kelly Galloup from T.C. Prior owner of The Troutsman Flyshop now called the Northern Angler Flyshop owned by his protege Russ Maddin are two well known (now famous) Michigan big brown streamer fisherman. Kelly’s original book Big Streamers For Trophy Trout changed the game on taking these bosses on the fly (streamer) since the 90’s many of us have been targeting these big fish like Kelly mastered. Check out his KZbin channel at his Galloup’s Slide Inn (his place on the Madison River) now in Montana. Also Russ Maddin and several other of guys from Michigan. Sorry so long of a response but just wanted to share! Longtime Michigan teacher and flyfisherman all over the state now down near the Cumberland River KY and have been all over the country flyfishing. Keep up the great work!😊

That fish is absolutely gorgeous! If Steelhead have access to the creek then the Brown also has access to be a lake run. So can't say for sure it's a resident or not. If I had to guess though it's a lake run.
@themichiganangler47463 жыл бұрын
Well your guess would be incorrect 👍 there’s many distinct differences with resident browns and lake run.
@NaturalAngling3 жыл бұрын
Well you're thinking that it is a resident is most likely based on the color and the shape. But neither of these are distinct differences between lake run and resident Browns. Also before Brown planting was ceased in southern lake Michigan, the DNR stocked the same strains as are currently planted as land locked residents. The fish you caught is a post spawn male, that's why hes colored up and thin. We have zero way of knowing if that fish has ever ran to lake Michigan or not for sure. So you assuming it is a "stream trout", "resident" is only a guess like mine.
@NaturalAngling3 жыл бұрын
@@rossvolker In my experience fish do the unexpected time and time again. The "Lake run" Browns I've caught in a river have been in March and April on the St. Joseph river. I did get one possible LRB in July one year Skam fishing also. Not all fish do the same thing at the same time. They don't play by the rules you have set in your mind. Ive seen coho full of eggs caught just this week, and a river king also. As for the data Michigan keeps a fish stocking database free to the public. Also lots of WI guys catch LRB in tributaries well into the spring. Sometimes pre spawn full of loose eggs, etc.
