I appreciate the respect you show fish. I can't stand videos where people let a thrashing fish dangle from a hook as it tears an increasingly large hole in its mouth. And then they drop it on the rocks. On its head. You're one of the good ones, Nick.

Up here in the state of Maine, I use rope lures just like I do worm. Whenever fishing a new place I see what there is with worms or rope lures than I figure out what they like best. Rope lures are cheap and easy to make. Can get easily get 25-35 lures out of a 40 foot section of rope. Is almost as cheap as actual worms!

I don't get bothered by KZbinrs who monetize their videos. This is the first time I have ever started getting aggravated by all of the ads just because they kept popping up right when something exciting was happening. When he said something about live bait right after he saw that duckling I was like “what....” lol
@rcsutter4 жыл бұрын
When I started watching this, I was saying to myself "he needs some nylon rope to catch those gar" and you didn't disappoint. They are really tough to catch on anything else. I've let them run with a bait for what seemed like an eternity, only to set the hook and miss. Small treble hooks work pretty good too. Gar are an interesting fish, throwbacks from millions of years ago with very little evolution. They made 'em right the first time. Tough armour, bony head, shaped for strong current, and they aren't stupid either.
@jameslandon41264 жыл бұрын
They are smart. I met this guy while fishing and he showed me some pictures of a 45 inch spotted gar he caught and the fish was missing his upper jaw almost as far back as his eyes. I could tell it was an old injury based on how it was scarred. This fish found a way to adapt to his injury and based on his belly, it didn't look like it was missing any meals.
@rcsutter4 жыл бұрын
@@jameslandon4126 yeah they're as tough as they come. I recall years ago I caught a 4' longnose that I wanted to keep to make Gar balls from. (which are actually very good, fried fish croquettes). I slammed a 12-lb or so rock on his head and thought he was done. About 15 minutes later that tough bastard was trying to get back in the river! There's a reason they've survived for millions of years.
