I can totally relate to growing up seeing eating out as a thing you do for special occasions. It's weird because most of my friends love eating out and do it regularly and I always feel a bit weird doing it for no reason. Like, there's food at home why am I eating out again? And at that point I also realise I sound just like my mum lol As for the eating, if all you had today was what you filmed then you defs haven't eaten enough so just have the oats!

Okay Australian vegan maccas tip: hash browns are vegan too! What I get is a standard burger (without the meat patty) and then add a hash brown to that burger. Hash browns are cooked where the chips are so that meal is entirely vegan :) There are lots of great vegan places in Sydney so you should be fine. One word of caution is that if you go to Taronga (the zoo) I'd recommend packing your own food as there are very few vegan options and the food is quite expensive. Definitely check out Lentil As Anything in Newtown if you get the chance - I have a funny feeling you'll really like the food and ethos of the place.

it's a shame they didn't have an Olivers at the service station, they have some great veggie/vegan options. One tip for Maccas, if you go to the servers, ask for a hamburger, minus the beef patty, ask for extra salad (tomato, lettuce, onion), they usually don't charge, and order a hash brown (they do all day breakfast) to go in the burger, that way you can get yourself a vegan burger that's a little more filling.

question - why is honey not vegan? I know it's made by bees, but beekeepers take really good care of them, they are essential to our ecosystem, and making honey doesn't hurt them. it doesn't seem to be a harmful part fo the food industry
@HollyGabrielle
@HollyGabrielle 4 жыл бұрын
personally will never eat honey for a few reasons: (1) to me, being vegan simply means abstaining from using and consuming any animal products, and since honey comes from bees, i will avoid eating it (2) a lot of honey is sourced in an unethical manner from commercial traders that just try to maximise yields, for example they clip their wings and replace the honey with sugar that is not as good for them. they even kill whole colonies sometimes. bees need honey for energy and nutrients. it is essential for their survival, therefore why should we take it away from them as humans when we don't need it? (3) leading on from that, we can use alternative sweeteners such as agave nectar, maple syrup, stevia or fruit itself.

I think it's soo important to eat honey. Since we do live in a kind of capitalistically oriented world, largely, supporting the honey industry, or even better bee keepers (local ones), will most likely be the only really good way to keep bees from dying out!!! And we desperately need bees!!!

Holly Gabrielle Let‘s make it more specific and say locally sourced honey. A friend of mine is a bee keeper, he doesn‘t clip their wings, but he drives them to different places to get food, because in one place the bees would not survive since everyone mows their lawn every week killing all the flowers that bees need. There are hardly any natural fields left that have flowers left all summer. I think he keeps those bees alive and well amidst all the bees dying around the world and takes a little off of their food (obciously not too much) so that he can use the money to invest back into the bees to get them to nutricious fields. If you‘re a regular person, you have to get money in order to keep doing what you‘re doing, which ultimately saves bees from starving because you take less off their food than you have provided them with. Without him, they would die, with him they have good food but have to share a little with him. It‘s not perfect but I don’t see many people driving bees around to get food without profit and until they do, buying local honey is keeping bees alive. Nonetheless, it’s not important to agree on every topic and it’s not really that important anyway. 😊

A lot of McDonalds, especially in the UK have veggie and vegan options and the only way for them to keep being able to produce more veggie/vegan options and less meat is for people to buy it.
