You are right about the practice and how to optimize the time. For me it’s the discipline part that lets me down. Thanks again for the wise words.

You are welcome Stuart :) Yes, definitely requires some discipline. Are you referring to discipline to pick up the guitar to play/practice, or discipline to focus when you are actually practicing?

Sure, except I explain the difference between categories and items before then which is important too :)

This is brilliant, and applicable to learning beyond the guitar. I am an educator in higher ed and I plan on sharing this with colleagues. I need to put a name to it. Do you have a name in mind? If not, I'll call it Simon Candy's Bulletin Board Model. Each line into the 'board' is a pushpin, or a tack, selected from a supply of pins that have names. Maybe there is a better analogy. In any case, thanks for this great post, Simon, and the other help you have given me.

You are very welcome David Howe! I love the name! :) I often think of a similar analogy where anything to be mastered requires you to work at it from several different angles, each angle is a nail. One nail won't hold anything in position too well, but several nails will etc if that makes sense?

@@acousticguitarlessons yes, that idea adds even more value. Thanks!

Another great lesson! I am going to try this. But working on a piece could be your development and use the focused learning in it should give you the improvement

Hi Don. Yes, you can and should rotate your focus on various aspects of the piece you are working on. Just make the piece itself the central item :)
