Have the Revstar RSS02T and it is my #1 non-vibrato equipt guitar 😎👍👍 A precision instrument that is the most stable guitar I've ever owned. The P90s sound great👍👍 The secret weapon is the volume control. Especially when using boost😉👍 😎✌👍❤🖖

That's a slick looking and sounding guitar. I've never played a Yamaha Electric... but I currently have a Yamaha APX 1200II Acoustic and love it for its Thin-line Cutaway body . It's a perfect Acoustic for those who are mainly Electric players

That thing sounds loaded for bear! I'm still playing my 1983 Yamaha SG800S (my avatar image). Bought it new in Ginza and have never thought about quitting it. It was also, if not the first, one of the earliest guitars to offer coil splitting (the tone switches are push/push spring loaded).

Pretty impressive sounding guitar. Musicians Friend does not mention the neck width but it looks pretty wide. Great playing as usual.

Thank you. Actually the width is fairly average. Just about 42mm at the nut and 52mm at the 12th fret. (1.649” and about 2”). Pretty close to vintage Fender.

Great guitar playing & guitar review Awesome guitar... I like the split coil setups they are a few guitars all packed into one for the price of one... you get your telecaster your stratocaster and your Les Paul and a few more rocking tone guitars with the right amp & effects it's a very versatile guitar.. looks 😎 with the basic racing stripes and the double cut with the offset horns definitely vintage looking... Awesome video & performance

I agree with you that most humbuckers that can be split don’t sound that good in single coil configuration. I think this high pass filter is really useful. Because of that, I prefer the cheaper RSE20 to the standard or professional model that has the focus mode that passively boost the lower mids by using a transformer. I think the high pass filter that cuts the bass is way more useful for most players.

I’m not a huge fan of onboard boost circuits. And yes, I find cutting bass to be more satisfying than coil splitting in most cases. Thanks for watching.

Out of all the demos of this guitar on KZbin, yours makes it sound the best. Are you using any pedals, or just overdriven amp?

Try out the step-up RSS20 if you can Ive tried both and the RSS20 was better IMO it has better pickups and graphite for a more stable neck and the new focus switch is a more usuable tone. If 799 is too much then this one being demoed is still a solid purchase. I got the Sunset Burst with humbuckers hard to find that combo it has a perfect setup right out of the box.
@leonardgriffieblues5845

Thanks. Yes I would expect at least incremental improvement in the higher priced models. I deliberately chose the most accessible model in this case to showcase the overall high quality of even the least expensive version. Keep in mind I buy these guitars for review, not for my personal guitars, where I would apply an entirely different criteria, though it’s not at all uncommon for me to want to keep something I review for live or studio use. In most cases, of course, I have to let them go. Thanks again for watching.

I have the same model and the same finish and even though it's a great instrument, there's one little thing that bothers me... The 3 way slider switch. I know, it's a bit of a nitpick, but being a Les Paul player for so long I just prefer the 3 way toggle, and the tip they put on it just feels cheap. I'm hoping at some point I can mod it to have a toggle put in it.
@leonardgriffieblues5845
@leonardgriffieblues5845 Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I guess being a Strat player for decades, the blade switch feels very natural and I like the location. I’m sure a toggle could be installed but I’m not sure how you’d hide the slit from the blade switch. In any case, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

I agree. I’ve recently bought the same Revstar model after being very disappointed with a brand new Tele and a Player Plus that had too many quality issues to mention. The Revstar is better build quality and value for money than the £1000 Player. My second favourite guitar is a 30 yr old Ibanez, so these Eastern brands are top tier in my opinion 👍
@leonardgriffieblues5845
@leonardgriffieblues5845 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it just no longer matters where it was built. All guitars have to be judged on their individual merits. The Revstar is definitely a solid guitar regardless of price. Thanks for watching.

What would you say, how does it compare to PRS SE Maccarty? A big price difference, but what would you pick?
@leonardgriffieblues5845
@leonardgriffieblues5845 Жыл бұрын
Well, they’re very different guitars that have a completely different feel. I don’t think there’s a big build quality difference. The PRS might have slightly better fretwork, probably because I believe the SEs are still inspected in Maryland, where any needed fret work, nut filing, or setup issues are addressed (except during pandemic). But like you said, there’s a big price difference so you could have some first rate work done and still come out ahead if you prefer the Yamaha. If both had perfect fretwork and setups I’m not sure there’d be a clear favorite. I’d just go for which one felt better in my hands. For me the edge would go to the PRS, but I tend to like slightly bigger necks.

The change to neck profile, body size & modest chambering notwithstanding, the RSE20 is quintessentially a hybrid of the former RS420 & RS320 original Revstar with a new Kitsch 'racing stripe' distraction aesthetic I don't particularly care for. Essentially a chambered RS320 no cut-outs body and all over neck back and sides paint job with RS420 hardware. I'd take an original RS420 over the RSE20 every day of the week. Hold on, I did. = )

@@leonardgriffieblues5845 The necks were different on the original RS series, markedly so between the RS320/420 and higher RS5xx and up segments which were wider and chunkier. Gen II Revstar is a different guitar altogether really, very US market targeted IMV. Your demo does it justice. I have by choice an RS320//02 in Red Copper (HH3 ceramics) and RS420 (VH3 alnicos) in Maya Gold. I had wanted their original P90 appointed RS502T in Black (& Cream), but due to production and distribution difficulties associated with COVIDmania Yamaha deleted the original line with no forewarning before I could get my hands on one. Don't care for the Gen II RSS02T at all, particularly its new price point. I loved your review of the Ibanez AS113BS. Spot on. I have one & love it to death. Also enjoyed your review of the Gretsch G5622T (which I don't have). Do have Gretsch's full hollow body 5422T Electromatic with FT-5E Filter'Trons along with their G5232T chambered Double cut Electromatic Jet with Blacktop Filter'Trons. What great guitars! Cheers.
