This story is a perfect example of a predictable story still being great. Some people say this trope or that concept is overdone or too predictable or something. But if it's well written, if it keeps you interested until the end, there's really nothing wrong with that. Great work!

I had to listen to this story twice, back to back. So I guess the MC’s “occasional whiff of death” around 15:45 is the killer opening the mass grave room to spy on the workers. This is one of the best creepy pastas I ever heard! I will probably listen a third time just to make sure I took it all in. This would be an amazing movie!

Excellent story. Shows how the protagonist's preconceptions led to careless decisions. He was so conviced about Curt being a "40 something burnout" that he did not even think that something was very wrong after seeing blood, an odd note, and an abruptly missing colleague. He was a bloody idiot who believed everyone else was also an idiot!

True horror doesn't come from monsters or supernatural things, it comes from things that can truly happen and are caused by others. You don't need some ghost story you just need to say what truly happens in our world and what can actually happen to you. Also absolutely love the ending of this one, i can imagine being in that situation and the true dread and disgust the person would feel.
@biancasilva81722 жыл бұрын
I like stories about ghosts and monsters, but they're only fun for me, entertaining. But stories where the real monsters are humans, those stories freak me out. It's like that deep feeling of horror, these are the ones that makes my blood run cold.

To the very strong, patient, people out there who can do this kind of work. You are amazing. You are so needed. And I don't know what you get paid but it's NOT enough. The only thing that I went through that was pretty much close to this was when I was in the Navy we had an aircraft crash in a field over Lentini Italy. It was a camouflaged 747. There were seven reservist on the aircraft. They were about my age I was 18 years old. The # 4 engine had a fuel leak. The plane made a turn and it exploded 90 seconds after rake off. We had to drive out there and pick up body parts. I found out a right arm hanging on to another right arm. Very sad. And then in Groton CT we pulled a 21 man down who hashing himself. You just numb. It's like yr brain is protecting you. And is nothing compared what the EMTs go thru. You are all awsome. 😔👍

Fun fact: Women who commit suicide are more likely to leave less mess as they're still concerned with cleanup, but men go for something that they're relatively sure they can't screw up regardless of the mess it makes. Also, a gunshot to the face doesn't always kill a person. Sometimes people flinch, the gun slips, or they aim poorly due to the angle they have to hold the gun at, and end up dying slowly, over hours or days, in agony, or they live but with horrific disfigurements and mental problems.
@carriehorner80276 ай бұрын
Unfun fact of an example of your comment: when I was 16 my dad's suicidal shot went in and the bullet ricochet back out, knocking his tooth out in process. I was told that he didn't die for quite sometime because the bullet had hit and destroyed the part of his brain for physical movement so he had to lay there in the orange groves and think about what he'd done but couldn't move. At 16 I didn't need to know that fact.

So basically this is like if Mayberry had a serial killer in it and Andy had retired and it was all up to Barney to figure out. With a nice little twist in the end making you think it was the cleaner guy the whole time and he was just having him clean up for him so they could skip town. Come to find out if the killer had probably used one of his own victims to hang above the bodies to use his to frame and was hiding out in that damn room the whole time while they're cleaning. Killed the other guy when he went outside to get a light and then left him a note saying thanks and then took him dump the guy's car and stuff and make him think it was the guy that took off.

That's what I got from it, too. I think when the MC went down the stairs and got the strong smell of 'death' again after brushing up the mercury/bulb, it was the killer opening the door to the mass grave, having locked Kurt in, before driving off in his car leaving MC behind.

So the serial killer didn't commit suicide. He was hiding in his secret room with the bodies, hence the rations they found inside. When Kurt and the main character came to clean up, and then the main character went upstairs with the light bulb, the killer saw his chance to run. So he knocked Kurt out, locked him in the room with the bodies, and then stole his van and identity. Thus why the main character thought Kurt was the killer, and didn't go looking for him. Only to find out a decade later that he was locked in the mass grave suffocating to death
