I count myself as one of the luckiest people on earth! We had a cooling tower job south of Theodore one winter and I rented a camper on Dophin island to live in. Every morning and evening going to and coming from work was a fire show in the sky. There was the Dauphin island sea lab down there and one rain out day I went to tour it. Met an octopus there and we played peek-a-boo for a good while. I was the only tourist in there that day so I had a super tour by the man who fed the animals. He said that octopus was newly caught and explained they are really smart but that was the only time he'd seen one play like that. A couple years later a big hurricane came and washed 1/2 the island away. I count you as one of my blessings. Your videos are brilliant. You some how show and explain more of what bees do naturally in the wild. Seems as hobby bee keepers we should pay more attention to what the bees would rather do. I realize that if you have many hives the current style hives are probably most efficient

@5:00 You need some sort of monitor that the camera can connect to and display on for this situation (a set up that I'm sure would come in handy for plenty of other situations you may run into). My first thought when you said they colony was dying out was, "I bet they poisoned them what a shame." then watching you pull out 80+pounds of honey made me sad and then you confirmed it was poisoned (or one of the people mentioned it)... People need to stop poisoning bees, it rarely works for long anyways because another colony will move in later...

Yep, sprayed. Just makes the removal messier with piles of dead bees under the combs.
