If any of you ever want to make a hotel cleaner's day, take off the used bedsheets and leave them in a pile when you leave, it makes cleaning the room just that tiny bit easier ^^ Nothing delighted me more back when I was a cleaner than a nice pile of bedsheets sitting there just waiting for me!

Hi Auri! I worked as a Zimmer Maedchen (cleaning girl) in Germany. We generally worked as a team of 3/-bathrooms/-beds/-dusting & vacuuming. We averaged about 28 rooms (4 were single rooms) from 8a-2p (we also took breaks/lunch). Each day we would focus on one thing to 'deep' clean, (i.e.--like move furniture and clean behind/vacuum under, or dust up high, etc.). You have to keep track of the rooms (which are vacated, multi-night occupancy and empty rooms), and which you can enter or not. It is so sad to me that many do not value cleaning people, especially when they do a good job. Leave a tip for the cleaning crew, it is a small gesture that goes far. My husband laughs at me, because I always inspect our hotel rooms before settling in (I have stories to tell...) and wash the glasses before using them. I have even pre-cleaned a room, and bring my own pillow case and wash/face cloths. Pack flip-flops or house shoes, because you don't want to walk in a hotel room barefoot. I am so glad that Aurikatariina is gaining popularity! You are so positive and bring a pride to cleaning that is so needed, especially during this pandemic when we are spending more time than ever at home.

@@fadwaamr404 O.k.: Bedsheets that were obviously not changed. Another time my husband walked from the bed to the bathroom and his clean white socks were black on the bottom. At one hotel is was so cold in the room, we couldn't regulate the AC, so we turned it off. When we returned hours later, the whole room smelled like vomit. Curtains (3 layers of curtains...) that smelled so strongly like smoke we had to leave the hotel. There are more...one had to do with poo, but I'll stop here.

As a former housekeeping. This is amazing we don't actually get too take the time in cleaning rooms this good. 15-20mins to a room before the next check in if you're by yourself. 10mins if you're lucky to get some help. So you can imagine trying to haul ass. When a gross guest leaves the room disgusting. I'm not sure how it is other parts of the world. But this is amazing.
@Chloe-jj7vy3 жыл бұрын
Former housekeeper also! You just don't have time for that. Most of thses jobs happen during the winter or on that day you happen to have time. Some important tips were missed however, such as cleaning behind the bed, furniture and cleaning light switches and door handles and drawers. Some rooms are fairly simple like this and just require a quick clean but others require several trips to the bin, to clean the bin and wall because there are milk and coffee stains all over. Scrub the bath like crazy because the guest used soap and oils and never rinsed the bath tub. Replace bedding because the guest was so sweaty that despite the pillow protectors you can smell them. Clean the drawers out thoroughly because they left something sticky or sandy inside... The list goes on. God forbid your housekeeping supervisor or next guest finds a mark of the side of a chair, something under the bed or right behind the curtains because you simply didn't have time to check when cleaning a ridiculous check out...

I've cleaned rooms in a few budget hotels and a five star hotel, and I can tell you that hotel rooms are filthy. The blankets are usually only washed when there is visible dirt on them, the curtains and furniture are never cleaned, and because they are never given enough time to clean the room, housekeepers cut a lot of corners. Just in the five star hotel, I've seen someone clean drinking glasses with Windex and a few would put a dirty bathrobe back like it was clean for a new guest.

If there are two beds that have been pushed together and the guest has only slept on one side then they only change that set of sheets. Also showers are not deep cleaned, just a quick scrub. Also glasses are not replaced after every guest. Only if they’ve been used. Same with towels. Also a quick tip - never use the water kettle. It’s never washed and I’ve seen some housekeepers use the same dirty microfiber cloth from the bathroom to wipe the kettle. That’s why I always double check everything when I go in a hotel.

Today was my first day on the job as a housekeeper, and we had a room that looked like it didn't need very much work at all. The bed didn't even look slept in. The girl training me happened to pull back the covers and look under and it was covered with shed hair. So a room that seemed clean and we only thought needed to be slightly wiped down ended up having to be a full clean

Believe me , I’m a housekeeper and I wish we could. Imagine being given 18+ rooms to clean within 8 hours and they expect you to only clean a room within 35 freaking minutes or less. I always make sure to get everything when I clean a room , and get every corner but when you have your supervisor breathing down your neck about how long your taking it a pain . I can get a room done within 33 , but I now those last 2 minutes is to get all your stuff and get out , knowing that there’s probably stuff under the bed or behind the desk etc ..... I hate it .

Hi Auri! Is it normal to make double beds with two duvets where you are? I've never seen beds made like that in America. I definitely understand wanting your own duvet, I'm quite selfish with mine.
@mikebashford81983 жыл бұрын
I've stayed in hotels all over Europe - 2 single duvets is more common, but here in the UK a double duvet on a double bed is more common.

As a scandinavian I would be a little upset if I had to share a duvet. I like to sleep all the way at the edge like a coccoon.

The other difference I've noticed is in the UK and US, pillows are rectangular, but are usually square in mainland Europe.
@lillianlamantia96053 жыл бұрын
In the Nordic countries it is common to have two duvets for a double bed. From my experience it is actually quite difficult to find king sized duvets and covers here - hubby and I like to share (except when he steals the foot area, then I don't like it), I also prefer how one duvet looks compared to two singles on a double bed.
@snailch3 жыл бұрын
@@lillianlamantia9605 I definitely think they look nicer as well, but I don't find it too comfortable. A bed cover helps with the looks :)
