I luv the restoration work. But there is a little part of me that appreciates the creativity that the previous player put into his tool. It tells a story. If that artist became someone the guitar would be in a museum and cherished. Guitar companies would be making signature series. It’s hard to tell if restoration is just setting it back to a stock(beautiful) guitar or is history of that musician’s journey is being erased…. Ready for its new user…

If you look closely theres actually very little wear on the guitar, no rust in the bridge saddles and the frets were pretty ok. I think the previous owner never actually got serious about playing guitar and just messed around with the paint and stickers.

The restored guitar would be totally ignored if it was used as the thumbnail image. Nice restoration work all the same. But also a total removal of personality and history of the guitar.

Seeing the original paint finish I can see why he painted it. A better idea would have been to give it a better finish similar to what he tried. So Jackson Pollack style splatter on a dip paint job. Or maybe laser etch a design on it before selling it on. Like the Millennium Falcon or something.

i have an old Hondo II les paul that i got from a pawn shop for $60 many years ago. It was 'tampered with severely' and never playable..ive wanted to fix up for years (remove the paint, sand it, install new Everything, repaint, etc)...only obstacle i don't know how to tackle is the Binding! It is bound on both front and back and the neck, but in terrible condition. Im about ready to just say screw it and strip it all down and since i dont know anything about binding, just sanding off the edges where the binding would be.....would this be a bad idea? (especially the neck is where my main concern is) I dont mind making the body look a little 'rounder' than a traditional paul, but the neck/fingerboard might cause problems
