This is so sick! I found your channel recently and it’s some of the best climbing content I’ve seen. Not only am I pushing for my first 7, I also help run my college’s team and I get to climb with a ton of brand new climbers. Your advice for beginners is so helpful. When new climbers ask me “how do I improve my footwork?” I actually have a coherent response and drills to follow up with. So thank you because your videos make my climbing experience so much better and are helping a bunch of people in my community

Thank you for sharing this! It's great to see that even the KZbinr climbers we look up to get stuck or frustrated, too. I recently got out of a blocked place in climbing but it's easy to feel like you're the only one when it's happening. Really liked the video!

To anyone that might think it was a soft 7…I climb at both gyms in this video and was motivated to try that blue V7 after I saw Sarah had sent it. I thought I was a good climber since I’ve flashed V6 and can climb the majority of V5s…but this climb shut me down quick. I couldn’t make any progress on it. No excuses, just a great send Sarah, nicely done. 👊

That means so much coming from you, thank you! And btw, I think you’re a fantastic climber - always making those crazy hard moves :D

On a proper v7 its physically impossible to have the strenght after 7 weeks. So with no prior training thats not very plausible. Technique does matter alot but its definietely not everything. Building strength takes years not weeks

It's always like this with something you project for a longer time! In the end, all moves are so refined and dialed in with precision, the final send looks almost easy. Well done!!

Enjoyed honesty and seeing progression of getting your first v7. Fine line between training hard and training way too much. Sometimes it helps to take that rest time (days, weeks, or more) away. Great lessons for us all. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet video! Last year my goal was to climb a v4 before the end of the year but it ended up being unrealistic so it just felt like so much pressure and took the fun out of climbing. Now I focus more on improving skills instead of hard timelines for the next grade. I did my first v4 a few weeks ago so I got there eventually!

That was a pretty good journey, congrats on the V7 send, that's already some serious number, first of many to come!

Awesome video, you put words to many important concepts. The part about how you thought about creating motivation was interesting, especially as you connected to it in the end. The drop in performance as you started overreaching with your training leading to no longer following the plan, such a common thing and illustrates the reason for things like de-load weeks. The feeling of consistent failure, so common in climbing, yet still a struggle sometimes, how many attempts are reasonable before giving up. And I think in particular, you showed how focusing on a specific project rather a grade, can act as a driver for development that still allowed you to develop your skills to the level that you could actually climb another project at that grade, which I presume you wouldn't have otherwise. And finally, the pain of seeing your project go a way, the cost we need to deal with as indoor climbers for the benefit of getting new and exciting climbs on a frequent basis. The latter was also a good explanation for the allure and benefits of outdoor climbing as a driver for developing your skills. Great work and thanks for sharing!

Been subbed to you for awhile without ever knowing we are neighbors apparently lmao! Coach Tash is a climbing coach I see a lot at the gym I currently climb at (where you went to get away from your project :) ), so I did a double take when I came back and saw her in this old video! Great content as always, maybe I'll see you at a climbing gym somewhere around here!

Hey don’t feel bad about it. We have the same goals and I’m sticking to a training plan by a coach. Although i don’t put a deadline to it. I just try and enjoy each climb and let that V7 happen when it happens. 🙂 you’d notice you’ll be a stronger V5/V6 which is still an achievement.

Awesome video! I spent so much time last year working towards 5.10/11 routes that I’ve almost burned out. The last few months I’ve only been able to maintain while in travel. I’m hoping the new gym opening up in my area will be a good change for me while I change up my training.

You seem to have discovered something I've noticed in myself and others... resting is often harder than training... haha. I struggle to avoid trying my MoonBoard projects every day, and I usually get injured before I get better.

Well done on the blue :) If you wanna project a climb that won't get reset try a Moonboard or Kilter board. But beware, some of 'em are hard as nails!

I lately was in a climbing gym I hadn't been to before and there they used Fontainebleau instead of the system my local climbing gym is using. There I learnt that my current level is 6a+. How does that translate to the V levels, is that V3?

Great video and very intersting to follow your progress. Its always hard to handle life and training. So sometimes its great to play around with priorities and focus on one thing to maximize the outcome. I love to do this and love to see other to challenge thereself. One tip: do not only plan your training days per week, also think bigger in weeks in month. In my case, I can train very hard for 2 maybe 3 weeks, than I need a week with lower intensity. And your energy drop in week 4 was, for me, a sign, that you need to slow down a bit to power up the week after again. If you and every women even want to do more, read about training based on menstrual cycle. With this you can optimize the plan for resting well.

I would definitely not use fear as a way to accomplish a goal in climbing. I would be obsessive and it would cause too much stress mentally and physically. Chances of me accomplishing any goal that way would be slim to none. Great video though.

It does look like a v2. I'm curious how the grades differ in different countries/areas/locations. In my gym this would be considered a green tape or between a v3-v5. The v7 or blue tape boulders that I climb are way harder than what I've seen other people climbing on KZbin which has been graded in their gym as v7. Very good work though I am super happy to watch your progression!

Same thing happened to me at SandyMo! 🤣 I hopped on a random V7 that I had never seen before and finished my first V7 in one session. I was so flabbergasted. Major congrats to you!!

All I learned from this video is don't try so hard...eventually a gym will put up a super soft problem with your goal 😅 Jokes aside, great work on the climb! All that training for one project just made you a stronger/better climber and you were able to accomplish your goal, just not the way you anticipated. Good luck with the outdoors!
