Thanks to Sedona Real for providing lodging. Check them out for your next trip! bit.ly/SedonaTB
Templeton is arguably the most popular technical climb in Sedona. If you've ever ridden HiLine you've most likely faced this wall of a trail on the way out. I recently traveled to Sedona to check it out and was SUPER stoked when I helped coach a rider through one of the most technical moves. Follow along for the ride!
Check out the trail here:

So much respect Jeff. It's my goal to climb this one day. I have a feeling it'll take me a good 10 different days to clean it. I can get to the right hander, but I'm gassed by then, and I haven't been able to see the line 'till now. I'm going to go out and see if I can clean this based on your tips. Thanks for putting this together. Those stair steps after the left hander are brutal too. I"m not sure I can make it up those.

@biketothetop
@biketothetop 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting, max heart rate= 220-age So does that mean if I'm 160 bpm max, I can't do Templeton cuz Jeff is ~172 =220-48? It would be interesting if somebody published an estimated max heart rate requirement for every mountain biking trail. Then I could just show proof of my age to allow me to use my eMTB on any trail that descriminates based on age!

@@biketothetop i've never found that calculation to be very accurate for many people , I'm 68 and my max on the bike (not in the lab ) is regularly 181 bpm not 152 . In 2015 it was 193 ( different computer ) so you dont need to sweat it if you don't match ' the formula ' 😊😊😊😊
@JeffLenoskyTrailBoss
@JeffLenoskyTrailBoss 4 жыл бұрын
Yes the 220 minus your age is always a guestimate. I’m 48 so mine should be 172 but it’s been in that area since I was in my 30’s. I think I’m just a big animal with a slow heart rate. I have some friends that are much smaller and they can get into the 180s easy. A wattage requirement would be be a better indication but it really all depends on how for you are

JamesNoBrakes since your screen name is no brakes I understand why you feel like that. For me progressing on an MtB is trying to ride everything. NO ONE is riding that trail without a hop. @@JeffLenoskyTrailBoss We used to be able to ride that trail without a hop, it's since eroded significantly. Attempts have been made to shore it up, as shown in your vid. I just feel that when the tech on the up passes a point where even the most skilled riders can't keep moving forward by pedal power, it excludes too many mtbers that will never be able to develop that fitness and the skills. I do think such trails should exist in limited numbers, but sparingly for that reason. Riding up Hiline, Made in the Shade or Cow Pies is funner for me for these reasons.
