Hey, heads up, I decided to do this challenge myself and found a couple of issues: Pumpkin seeds are added in Beta 1.8 and can be found in Mineshafts, but they are bugged in specifically Beta 1.8.1 where they stopped spawning in mineshafts. So, update to Beta 1.8 instead of Beta 1.8.1. I only found this out after spending far too much time looking for the seeds, and then finding that the bug is only documented on the talk page of the pumpkin seeds in the wiki. Also, Beta 1.8 enables collection of Ferns with Shears, but it also removes Ferns from world generation entirely, so make sure before updating you've generated chunks in Beta 1.7 with ferns so you can collect them. And, finally, I know strongholds become an issue in Beta 1.8 and Release 1.0. You need a stronghold in Beta 1.8 to get certain stone brick types, but they don't spawn end portals, so you need a second stronghold for Release 1.0. I know you already mentioned issues with that and possibly needing to delete chunks, but as a general tip for people who want to try the challenge, one thing I've found is that as long as you only ever explore along one axis (north/south or east/west) before Beta 1.8, you should always have at least two strongholds able to spawn.

i'll start by saying that I'm far ahead of all of the versions you've listed by this point - pumpkin seeds become craftable in 1.0, so I'm not sweating that - ferns won't be an issue - there is a bug that i exploit to get all of the stone brick types without finding a stronghold. i do run in to complications with strongholds though at some point, but I get through it. you'll see once I get to that point!

@@Dagnel It seems I have forgotten about the bug with stone brick stairs. I remember even reading it on the wiki, it just never crossed my mind that I could use it to get the needed stone bricks lol (and now I realize it would've also been possible to use that bug to get chiseled stone bricks before they were even obtainable in survival without bugs, but it's too late for me to do that now) And yeah, I solved the pumpkin seed issue by just crafting them in 1.0. I also brought up ferns because they were an issue for me, I didn't actually go out to generate chunks in 1.6 and 1.7 so I ended up only with a two chunk wide strip of land that could've spawned ferns in the first place (And I got lucky that it did spawn ferns).

Those old achievements were so aggravating to child me because I just didn't understand the kind of progression system they had, would do certain tasks and then not get credited for them lol So many memories

I'm reasonably on-time, so I'll post about this again: If you're not averse to grinding to pull off really weird and technical glitches, JKM and Myren have documented a way to get command block / bedrock / barrier / etc. items all in vanilla survival. It seems terrible to pull off though, so I can't in good conscience seriously suggest you do it :P

Time #4 of saying this till dagnle sees it. Idk what version this is added but a little known fact is you can get a double tall fern from a specific house in a tiga village, it’s a low chance but you can get it so please don’t leave it out!

You don’t need silk touch in earlier versions to get gold/iron ore

As soon as maps are released, I highly recommend using them when exploring. This is the perfect use case for them. Normally they are not all that useful except for the occasional marking of notable locations, However in this case, it will be especially notable as you go on as all the terrain is important as it has already been generated and now you will know where you have and have not explored.

Second (and last, I won't backseat THAT hard) time posting this, in case you didn't see it on the last vid. A little advice, since you're going to have to do a lot of exploration over the course of this series : you should use nether portals to generate new terrain. It streamlines generating new terrain a lot, and makes travelling to it easier. I did(well, technically am doing, but haven't played in a long while) something similar to this challenge, and with each version I needed to generate terrain, I made a new portal ~120 blocks away on a straight highway in the nether, then explored perpendicular to that highway back in the overworld. Then again, since you can make new blocks instead of having to find every new biome/structure for each version like I did, you'll probably be just fine exploring freeform like you have been.

about terrain generation -- there is software available that allows you to delete chunks not used at all. i don't know if you'd wanna go that route, i get that it might feel like cheating, but going through every single version of minecraft means you might be 10k blocks out by the end of this all.

If I remember correctly the trees with the mixed leaves isn't a bug - I think trees from the alpha version of the game had them on purpose when beta came out so you could get the new leave and tree types without having to start a new world or to travel sooooo far to get them. :)

are you ever going to delete chunks or will you keep generating more and more chunks to get new terrain in every update? i know you said you can't generate too much for one version due to it but considering there are a LOT of versions left... it sounds like a pain to walk so far but it also seems fun to keep a lot of the old terrain to see the changes from version to version.
