We have been Google Fiber customers for a couple of years and are extreme;y satisfied with it. The monthly cost is $72 and includes one Google Wi-Fi transmitter. Due to the configuration of our home, we added a second transmitter for about $50 one-time purchase. Download and upload speeds are in the 900 Mbps range, and Google offers billing credits if there are outages. Google Fiber has been very dependable and outages are few. The additional benefit was that we were able to pull down a couple of decades' worth of cable wiring from the exterior of our home!

I tryed T-mobile internet for 3 months, 2 kids that game , and I stream TV, so the caps of the local big internet providers were killing me. It only averaged 24mbps most of the time, which was surprisingly enough for it to keep up, but it would drop down to less than 5mbps several times a week, and nothing would work well. Sometimes, a reset would fix it. If I had a window that faced the tower, it might have worked, but as soon as AT&T came through with their fiber and no cap for only $20 more a month, I jumped on it!

No contract, so no problem there. I could always switch to another fiber optic company and since AT&T installed the line for free, switching would be seamless. Also, keep in mind that there are more and more options coming daily so the thought of a price hike is not very likely. If anything, they may go down. Since I work from home, I actually upgraded to the 1GB speed at $80 per month. It's overkill for what I do, but the blazing speeds are so enjoyable.

I'm using T-Mobile 5G home internet, and my experience is far better than when I had Spectrum. My average download speed is 400+ mbs download, but my upload speed averages almost 30 mbs (let me point out that T-Mobile's average download and upload speed is 2x faster than Spectrum's at half the price). I do have the luxury of having a T-Mobile tower about 2 miles from me. And I installed roof mounted antennas. Without the antennas on the roof, the performance I would get is comparable to Spectrum. I worked from home and I would get unexpected connection interruption with Spectrum. I've never experience any interruption with T-Mobile. I've tested T-Mobiles bandwidth by simultaneously streaming 4K contents on 4 4K tvs with little to no buffering. I'm truly impressed with T-Mobile. I would have never leave Spectrum if it delivered on its promise. Spectrum made me become a "Cord Cutter". I'm sure fiber internet has some kick ass speed, but I'm satisfied with what I'm getting with T-Mobile and the price. I did have 3 existing lines with T-Mobile before I switch to their internet, so my monthly cost comes out to $40. That's more that half of what I was paying for Spectrum.

In our semi-rural area, none of the cellular services are worth a bleep. ATT/TMOBILE/VERIZON all claim we are in high coverage (5g ultra or whatever they call it), but when you bring the device into the area, we hardly have a signal at all, and the download speeds are in the kilobytes. The cable is Charter Spectrum and while they'll sell you 500Mbps or 1Gbps, the service rarely does better than about 50 to 80Mbps when it is up. AT&T dsl service is limited to 21Mbps but we've never seen that- more like 5 or 6Mbps. They've said we'd receive fiber since it was launched; but still no signs. Oh, and we're in the b-contour for antenna TV, so you need a 40+ft tall antenna, which isn't allowed in the area.

The only provider we have in Upstate New York is Spectrum and it is 79.99 per month. When and if a new provider comes to the area we will kick Spectrum to the curb. Spectrum is a monopoly and has the subscribers hostage for now. State government has done nothing to protect the subscribers. Internet should be treated like a utility and regulated as such.
@slrpirate2372 Жыл бұрын
BTW Spectrum purchased Time Warner Cable in Upstate New York and all the infrastructure was already installed. So all Spectrum did was purchase the existing company and jack up prices. Really nothing changed except the monthly charge. Spectrum did nothing but take over TW. Again the benefit of monopoly. They are the only internet provider in the area. Now Spectrum has closed the local service offices. Internet monthly charges have doubled since the take over and Spectrum's stock price has increased by ripping off the former Time Warner subscribers. Again, where is our government protection? When you are the only bar in town drinks get expensive.

My wife and I are seniors on a fixed income. We live in an apartment. Our apartment complex only gives us 2 options for internet. Spectrum, which is 300 mpbs and costs 79.99 (because we don't bundle with their tv service anymore) + 5.00 equipment fee. The other choice is AT&T internet 25, which is only 25 mpbs and is 55.00 per month. That would save us 30.00 per month but is 25 mpbs fast enough? We don't do games, and we only have one tv and a desktop computer. We've dropped youtube tv and replaced it with frndly tv and paromount plus which totals about 15.00 per month but we are still just barely making it. Why are apartment complexes so limited in their choices? At the last house we lived in we had AT&T Internet 50 at 50 mpbs which seemed to work well for us. I don't understand the 25 mpbs speed limit here. The only way spectrum will lower the price is if we bundle with their tv service. We just can't afford it. Don't know what to do.
@MichaelSaves Жыл бұрын
Ugh -- this is tough. 25 Mbps *might* be OK, but if you use Wi-Fi like most people (not directly connecting devices to your gateway) the speed is often cut in half -- so 12.5 Mbps let's say. If I were you, I would probably stay with Spectrum if you can find $25 elsewhere in your budget to cut costs. It all depends on your priorities I would also keep an eye on T-Mobile and Verizon's 5G services as they expand.

I signed up for T-Mobile Home Internet about a year ago. The first 2 weeks were great… then it went to shit & has remained shitty. The excuse is always that T-Mobile is updating their towers. Most recently I was told that when there is a heavy Home Internet VS Cell demand, T-Mobile gives preference to cell coverage which makes Home Internet even slower. I have repeatedly had videos freeze & pages not load. It has been common to have speeds as low as 6.7Mbps. So. I cancelled T-Mobile Home Internet & I would not encourage anyone to purchase T-Mobile Home Internet if you live near Cleveland, Ohio. My T-Mobile cell service is flawless just about anywhere I go. I am an Over The Road Truck Driver.

I have had Comcast internet and TV forever . The price I pay with all the fees and taxes is appx . $195 per month. I called up about just having internet from Comcast ($100 per month) and getting KZbin TV ($75 monthly) ...so if I change .. I'm not really saving any money. I am only at my home 50% of the time as I travel almost every weekend and work outside of my home 4 days a week.

Switched from XFINITY (internet, cellular, tv) to Fidium Fiber, KZbin TV & T-Mobile. XFINITY just got too expensive. Now, fewer contracts, faster internet, & cheaper. It is a bit of a hassle switching mobile providers. Now I’m watching KZbin TV, along with my other streaming services through my Apple TV 4k. It’s a pretty amazing experience. Highly recommend if you’re already part of the Apple ecosystem.

Because Im a low income senior have been able to take advantage of the ACP gov sponsored program for the last 2 yrs which allowed me home internet for $17 . but now the gov is dropping those services but xfinity is still helping those customers. I still have xfinity and a rate of 100 mbts for $29.95 a month which is a great deal for me , and yes I have completely cut cable. Currently not using any streaming services but that is not to say that I wont add a service as needed during the winter for certain sports, that remains to be seen.

Biggest issue is pricing. Sure Xfinity is faster but in our area its $100 month just for internet. If T mobile can just make it so there is no obvious drop in speed and price around $50 month then I believe they will take most of market share in just few years.

My sister bought land in the desert almost 20 years ago then built her custom dream house on it and moved in in 2009. Problem is, as nice as it is, Cox cable (the local ISP) was not in her area and neither was the phone company's fiber optic network, because it wasn't a pre-planned community with several track homes built and laid out with fiber optic and cable in advance then sold individually. So up until a couple months ago, she was getting at most 1.5 mbps and sometimes as low as 600 kbps! That is because neither fiber optic or cable was in her immediate area (though she lives in Phoenix) she was forced to go with the phone company's old copper lines, and they are only as fast as their nearest service hub. For the longest time her only other option was satellite which is very expensive and not as reliable due to whether. She has DirecTV thru them but the Internet speed was so shameful that I could barely get the Ring cameras I installed and set up there to work. Finally, two months ago as a Verizon customer she got the 5G home Internet and for her even 100mbps is screaming (after all, it is 100x what she's been getting for 14 years)!

I'm in the Houston area and I have Xfinity as my internet provider. I pay $50/month for 800gbps. There's no contract. However, I do have an agreement that the price won't change for 2 years. A month before the agreement ends, I start looking for better deals. I have my own equipment which saves me about $15/month and I have auto pay which saves an additional $10/month. The only downside is that you're capped at 1229gbs for the month. If you go over, you're charged $10 for 50 extra gbs. They give you 2 complimentary months to use if you go over.

The average cost of 500 mbps speed plan with Cox in Phoenix is $90/mo. (more for faster, less for slower), though I get bundled and special promotional discounts. However, expanded cable TV, Showtime, HBO and box rentals (except for DVR's and CableCARDs) are included with our HOA fee. So cutting the cord would be dumb because we are still paying for it (at about 70% off) thru our bulk contract for the resort condo community where I live. Therefore, when my latest DVR rental died a month ago, I turned it in and got a no-fee receiver box only, then ordered a new Tivo Edge for cable with CableCARD from Cox (which does cost $6/mo. since not included in our HOA like standard receiver boxes are). The Tivo Edge with no subscription fees (lifetime paid) and a 5-yr. warranty plan was just $450+ tax. I was paying at least that in monthly DVR box rental & service fees in less than two years with Cox.

@@MichaelSaves Ah yes, Florida. The "other" resort state with private condo communities and often notorious HOA's, LOL. I've had T--Mobile home internet service for almost two years now. I wouldn't be using it if I was still working. My download speeds are never over 35 Mbps and I have very frequent, like multiple times a day, drop outs. Sometimes for hours at a time. Then miraculously, sometimes I go for weeks with no problems at all. When it works, it's fantastic, when it don't , it's really frustrating. Speaking for myself, we have a total of six people living in our household playing multiple 4K streams, multiple gamers, video surveillance with off-site backup and lots of personal video and photo uploads of my grandchildren. Basically I've seen mid-size office's use of bandwidth in my home. We have the options of up to 5Gbps ($150), 2.5Gbps ($100), 1Gbps ($70), 500 Mbps ($50) service available from our fiber FiOS internet provider at reasonable prices. My observation is that the bandwidth has been doubling every 2 to 3 years effectively at the same price. @artyomarty391Ай бұрын
@@deemen7132 its on a case-by-case basis. The main reason fiber is better is mostly because if you have it, it means its new. New means good. This is by far the best predictor of how good your internet with a provider will be. Many buildings today are still wired with 10-50 year old cables and fittings which are completely rusted inside. These kinds of things will usually cause micro disconnects which you dont notice unless you play demanding video games New apartment buildings will have new fiber and coax (cable internet). In this case, they're pretty much the same quality and wont be affected by weather As an Xfinity tech, I see plenty of FIOS customers switching to Xfinity (cable internet). Mostly due to price At the end of the day, I would too recommend fiber. Not because of the speed, as the speed is the same, but for the stability. However, this doesnt mean you wont have problems while with another provider you might not
