A lot of people like to watch these videos and say "It'll fail in 5 minutes". Curiously, I watched a video from another channel where a gentleman who was working in an American workshop and there was no such talk about failure. The person in that video used nearly identical techniques as the fellow in this video albeit the American had access to some more high tech tools. There was no retempering in that video either but it was assumed to have happened later on or off camera. Just because the workshop isn't pristinely clean and isn't located in a "western" country, it doesn't follow that any work performed there is substandard. From what I've seen in these types of videos, the work performed in this video is top notch.

Just because you saw the same thing done by some other shop, some other place, on a similar type of part doesn't make it a proper repair or excuse the above repair as anything better than sticking the two prices back together. Nobody will deny that there are clear economic circumstances in third world countries that force a desperate attempt to 'make due' by any means possible. In America, if you are a pro, in the business of repairing things, it needs to work as designed or you end up in court.or out of business. Clearly in the country above, there is no warranty, or expectation of success of any repair, just a: " Do the best you can with what you have and whatever happens will happen and I wont expect it last or sue you mentality." I doubt very much you would pay anyone good money to "repair" the transmission countershaft in your only car by the above method and then take that car far from home with your family in any harsh conditions or tow a trailer.

A lot of people say this because its true , no proper alignment , poor welding technique , loss of heat treatment to gears .The original shaft snapped so a soft welded repair will deffo snap

This people are poor they work with tools.they can afford , in América they have good Economy and you can buy new equipment every year in you want... @@nistaffsubs6787 it's not about the tools or new equipment You can absolutely do proper work in tight tolerances on old and even worn out machines, but that's not what was shown here A hint that you can see in many of these videos is that the workers are throwing their (newly machined) products careless around, even onto the floor.

Hahaha The use of the wobbling steady rest though 🤣🤣🤣 Btw, these shafts are from hardened steel, you get never a good holding weld there. Besides that, he destroyed the physical (hardened) properties of that shaft with the heat from the welding process. The whole shaft turned blue and softened...
@ghinckley68

The blue is probably from them re tempering it to remove the stress built up from welding the guy had the skill to get it back together. So he probably knew to re temper it.

Actually these kind of shafts can be made of mild steel in low torque vehicles. And in India/Pakistan a lot of vehicles are a lot lower powered than their Western equivalent. (Remember this is likely from something like a 1.2cc van... Not a 6liter V8 Hellcat)

What a lot of people dont realise is the cost of a brand new replacement (if the part is even attainable) would cost the equivalent to several months salary... Which is not viable. But s repair like this will only cost a fraction of that, and will last an acceptable duration...

Manufacturing flaw. It was probably made in another Pakistani small shop out of scrap steel - they seem to be able to make almost anything - just don't worry about quality. It's interesting because it's the lay shaft, and failed at a point where there is no tortional load.

Judging by the broken pieces, it really looks like it's broken, been welded, then broken again. You can't trust this shit, I guarantee the metals are not the same in the weld as the part itself and there was no hardening performed afterward to strengthen the steel, which in this case hardening it would likely cause it to break quicker.
@KathrynLiz1
@KathrynLiz1 Жыл бұрын
Well he "got 'er done" with very basic equipment... One hopes that the load that broke it in the first place does not do so again. I wonder what rods he used for the weld? Ordinary mild steel ones would not be optimal, but perhaps some containing nickel might work pretty well.

What good does it do to repair a part if you have to ruin the Lathe to make it. I am seeing a part chucked up in a lathe without ANY ground to the part itself . Full current is flowing across all spindle bearing surfaces causing deformative electroplating and bearing race damage. Regardless of the method there was no pre or post heating of the assembly to remove boundary stress built cup between the varying metal grain structures between the repair zone and the parent material. The functionality and torque capacity of this part is greatly reduced from the original part and the lathe is ruined.
