For all his, "I'm an engineer, I'm really smart!" talk, Matt does a lot of half-baked thinking xD
@cursedhawkins13052 ай бұрын
I'd argue that's because his whole channel's based on hating architects... even though engineers and architects basically work TOGETHER especially since architects are the VISION while the engineers are the means of making sure said vision is done in a feasible and safe manner, so when Matts plays these games, they make him an architect, not an engineer. "Architects and engineers work closely together to ensure that a project is both visually appealing and structurally sound. Architects bring the creative vision, while engineers ensure that this vision is feasible and safe"

not sure how i feel about the random rewards for the day you have to choose form in a puzzle type game. Imo puzzle games should be solved by thinking, not luck...
@SubjectiveObserver8 ай бұрын
There's no reason to put up strict barriers between genres. This is incorporating elements and themes from strategy, city-builder, and "roguelike" games. Allowing games to deviate from narrow genre definitions gives us more diverse experiences and challenges. Besides, improvising with somewhat random resources, and making a choice with incomplete information, also requires thinking. But it's a different form of thinking. Estimating and weighing probabilities, lateral thinking, quick thinking, and reworking a complex system to account for unplanned features. Which are arguably more valuable life skills. And if it's a well-designed balanced game, luck will not "solve" the problem for you. Considering there is a very limited set of random possibilities, all of them are constantly useful, and they have overlapping functions, the outcome is still mostly determined by the player. And because the game continues to get harder until it's literally impossible, the goal is not to solve a puzzle, but to use your ingenuity to last a long as possible with the hand you're dealt. Play multiple times to get an "average" of your results, if you want to remove the randomness from your score.

It is these, roguelikes, and survival games both of the bullet hell and base building variety. This isn't my cup of tea mostly, but I love that these super niche genres are getting indie explosions. Indieplosions? Indexplotions? Indiexplotions? Anyway it gives me hope that my super-niche genres will be next to get explosions. *Abstract* This video showcases a gameplay session of Tiny Connections, a resource management game where players connect power and water to citizens across various maps. The video focuses on the Central US map on expert difficulty, highlighting the challenges and strategies involved in efficiently connecting settlements while managing limited resources and time constraints. The player navigates through the game, utilizing different tools like tunnels and rotators, and demonstrates the increasing complexity as the game progresses. Despite facing some difficulties and a near-loss towards the end, the player successfully completes the map, showcasing the rewarding and engaging nature of the gameplay. *Gameplay Summary: Tiny Connections - Central US (Expert)* *Starting Out (**0:00**)* * *0:12**:* The player begins on the Central US map with expert difficulty. * *0:23**:* Initial settlements requiring water are connected using pipes. * *0:47**:* Each settlement has a timer, requiring quick connection for points. *Resource Management and Rewards (**0:57**)* * *0:57**:* Connecting settlements earns power and water points, contributing to the overall score. * *1:10**:* Expert mode features shorter timers and limited pause functionality. * *1:21**:* Daily rewards offer various resources like pipes, grid tiles, junctions, rotators, and tunnels. *Expanding Networks and Challenges (**1:33**)* * *1:37**:* Power grid is established and connected to settlements. * *1:44**:* Forest tiles require double resources to build, posing strategic challenges. * *2:47**:* Buildings can spawn in inconvenient locations, requiring adjustments and creative solutions. * *3:53**:* Disconnected settlements require immediate attention to maintain point generation. *Utilizing Tools and Upgrades (**4:00**)* * *5:25**:* Tunnels are used to bridge large distances and bypass obstacles. * *5:33**:* The player changes pipeline color to optimize resource usage for different colored buildings. * *8:03**:* Rotators are strategically used to reorient buildings and save resources. * *10:02**:* Tunnels become increasingly valuable for efficient network building. *Increasing Difficulty and Strategic Decisions (**12:00**)* * *12:05**:* New colors of buildings introduce additional complexity to resource management. * *14:56**:* The player prioritizes acquiring tunnels due to their strategic advantage. * *16:58**:* The player considers converting pipelines to different colors to optimize connections. * *18:31**:* Tunneling is used to efficiently connect distant settlements and save resources. *Final Days and Conclusion (**19:52**)* * *19:56**:* Multiple disconnected settlements require quick action and strategic planning. * *20:38**:* The player utilizes rotations to solve connection issues and optimize resource usage. * *22:24**:* The final day presents challenges with limited resources and tight spaces. * *23:13**:* Despite a near-loss and revival, the player successfully completes the map with a high score. Disclaimer: I used gemini 1.5 pro (2024.03.27) to summarize the video transcript. This method may make mistakes in recognizing words and it can't distinguish between speakers. The prompt was: Create an abstract and summarize the following video transcript as a bullet list. Prepend each bullet point with starting timestamp. Do not show the stopping timestamp.
