How I Conquered RUSSIA as the MOST POWERFUL VIKING in all of Crusader Kings 3? Easy as blueberry pie! Especially when you play as the most powerful Viking of adventurer of all time: Jarl Dyre the Stranger! Unifier of the Rus!
I, Koifish, will play as the Viking Norse, and conquer my way down to take over all of Ruthenia! From there, I will use the special decision Found the Capital of the Rus to make my capital of Könungarder into the most POWERFULL TALL Kingdom in all of CK3, with insanely high development and great bonuses! This is the BEST DECISION In Crusader Kings 3! I also create the Hybrid culture between the Russians and the Norse! The Bascorse! The hybrid culture is one of my favorite features from the last DLC Royal Court!

I dont always play ck3, but when i do, i play Jarl Dyre the Stranger. He's a dead ringer for the Byzantine Empire, and you can cheese a varangian adventure to get the most troops through event soldiers to take over your dynasty head and restore your inheritance. Once you snag that gold mine down in greece you can become a religious protected vassal then use meritocrasy to get a claim on the byzantine empire. One great tip for playing him is to go conquer gotland then take a 1 county chump in norway so you can ally halfdan and ivar. then you can win any war with 8000 viking allys behind you.

While the Rus was founded by vikings, the vikings assimilated into East Slavic culture rather than fusing with it. Probably because the viking way of life was not relevant in a more landlocked situation

Koifish, i didn't really see you doing it, but as any viking is extremely good to hire a good antiquarian and make spears and armor, since they give very good stats to knight efficency, raid speed, extra knights, and battle buffs.

Fun fact that you probably already knew: the reason why they "put Rurik Rurikid's name in twice" is because he's the founder of the dynasty as we know it, so all his descendants were called Rurikids (kids of Rurik). In CK3 you can't just do it with the dynasty system, so he's called what he is. His own family name or patronymic are unknown since it's not even clear where he came from. The earliest written mentions of him come from almost two centuries after his death. All that is known is that he was a Varangian troop leader probably from eastern Sweden, maybe.

@@user-xw5xo3bv1n what historians say about the varangian rus people is that they came from Roslagen an eastern coastline where svear came from in todays Stockholm and when they went to todays Finland and Russia they said thats the place they came from and thats why finnish people dont say Sweden but Routsi/Roslagen insted, in the oldest meaning of the name routsi it is land of rowers and they belive thats where rus came from. Also the early rus said that they where svear to Louis the pious when they left Byzantine with a delegation from constantinopel and met him and he asked them, If I remember correct. Then there was someone of the rurikins they dna tested and he shared dna with swedes and there was the bracelets and some other things i belive they found in Kremlin that had swedish-slavic style. So with all info we have about them, they where svear from Roslagen and there is nothing really that says otherwise.

And no, it couldn't be about Roslagen particularly, it's just a hypothesis trying to tie names. Rus word is most probably of Slavic origin, because other Varangians weren't called Rus, neither generally, nor in such places as Polotsk, by the time of Rogvold. Nothing was called Eus apart from Kiev-region, however Varangians were at many places. (doesn't change the fact that Kievan dynasty and their host are Scandinavian)

Also what i said about Kremlin was that they found swedish-slavic style of things, and it was built by rurik dynasty and it did exist in kievan-rus rus era and later destroyed by mongols (not completly i think) and later rebuilt, it just the walls as they are now started after kievan-rus. Yes rus is obvious a slavic word i have never said anything else and why cant it mean Roslagen original? , but what the most accepted origin of the word is that they borrowed it from finnish peoples name for the place svearna came from Routsi which they borrowed from svearna to name them, of course not all varangians where called rus because not all norse people came from same place and the original varangians where svear and later others where called it because they joined varangian guard.

Even till now only two start dates. Think kn ck2 there were more. Personally I would like a 911 start where Rollo is getting ready to invade Normandy. Guthrum is the Earl of East Anglia. Erik Bloodaxe is controlling Danelaw. Uhtred the bold is active. Many more... Other start date could be a first Crusade start date. You can play as one of the crusader Lords who own nö land - Bohemond starts from Taranto Godfrey of Bouillon starts from Bouillon. Raymond of Toulouse from there. Hugh of Vermandois. Robert Curthose can start as disinherited but the Duke of Normandy. Lastly, Stephen of Blois who if he succeeds can start with a pressed claim to England as well. Would also like if Tancred Hautevillebalso had a start That would be awesome
