@raffaelw.27673 жыл бұрын
She's mocking herself actually... She said in an interview that this song started as a song about a lost love of hers, but by the time she finished it she already thought how ridiculously pretentious and theatrical it was, so she turned it into this mockery of self pity
@JerehmiaBoaz3 жыл бұрын
Raffael is right, the lyrics are about how birds in flight make her sad because they remind her of her "acquaintance", and when she looks up to watch the birds the sunset over the city makes her cry. So the opera singing is about the beauty of the scenery and the shrieks and coughs are her wailing and sobbing. The chicken at the end kinda makes sense too (in German a "dummes Huhn" - lit. "stupid chicken" means a brainless girl).

I've searched the comments here somewhat, but I didn't find anyone explaining the song. The name of the song translated to English would roughly be, Tears of Nature, or The Natures Tears. She is the nature, experiencing sunsets in gold and red, birds taking to the skies as she lifts her eyes. Then she hears/experiences the sound and exhaust from an exhaust pipe, hence the coughing. My German isn't super good as I am Norwegian, so I am sure that I am missing out a bit, but that is the essence of the song. I know it's been a few years since the release of your video, but I stumbled upon it right now. :)

Same as the other gothic music electronica, industrial rock and metal, and symphonic metal. Yeah, she was punk then but she was split from traditional punk in was early 70's when she started by 1978 at the time of the performance which is when the term got coined bats as they were called back then they were Nina Hagen fans then led to King Diamond first gothic metal band.

She was in the forefront of radical musical change in Germany that led into the German new wave music style. Everything until that time was traditional "Schlager music". I was a teenager at the time and totally uninterested in this kind music. Then my sister advised me to take listen to Nina Hagen. So I put it on expecting nothing special, but i immediately fell in love with the record and bought it myself the next day. BTW i hated Punk music but when are good as her it does not matter. The whole album is fantastic and is still one of my favorite albums. One of her most beautiful songs is "Der Spinner (the lunatic)". It is difficult to describe the beauty of the song, like with so many of her songs but, it are details of the pictures that make it work. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKmrhJWpqaaIj9U

What's more, in the DDR she had a Schlager hit with "Farbfilm Vergessen". She's one of the few classically trained singers who dares to sing "ugly" at the full potential of her vocal range. The text of the song is a pastiche of a romantic evocation of a summer night in a city.
