After making homemade cranberry juice concentrate, Sarah had SO MUCH leftover cranberry pulp! It would have been a shame to waste the pulp, so she turned it into cranberry sauce and water bath canned it.

***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

It's official, I've made up my mind. I'M GOING TO START CANNING!!!! WOOHOO!

It's a really fun and economical way to preserve extra harvest or great deals you find in the grocery store. Anything high sugar/acid you can do with a hot water bath canner. Think tomatoes, jams and jellies. Any meat, beans or low acid foods like corn, green beans or potatoes you have to upgrade to a pressure canner, which will set you back a bit more. I've picked up two water bath canners at thrift stores for a few buck each. Even new, they only run about $20. You'll also want to invest in the Ball or other brand, canning kit with the jar lifter, funnel, etc... Most grocery and farm stores, even Target and Walmart, carry jars and two part lids (you only use the lid part once, but can use the rings over and over). You can often find canning jars at thrift stores as well, just make sure that they have no chips on the rims or cracks. Also, ask your older relatives and neighbors that lived through the depression and/or the age of Victory Gardens. They'll probably give you a carload of canning jars for free! Have fun! Jams and jellies are always a great place to start your canning adventures. You can do small batches with little time or money invested.

We might be moving to Arizona this summer for a job tansfer, and I cannot wait to have fresh citrus!

Your recipe is close to my mom's. She was born in 1913 and got the recipe from her mom so its an old one. Using a hand grinder clamped to the kitchen counter, she ground fresh cranberries, oranges skin and all, and apples skin and all. Everything, juice and all fell into a pot. Sweet apples cut way down on the amount of sugar needed. Unlike her mom, she added cherry or raspberry jello mix with sugar - just the mix not the finished product. She did add sugar then heated in briefly before refrigerated. I never knew her to can it. We were a family of seven and ate pretty much everything in sight. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

This is great! I hate to waste food and this is a great way to use up the entire cranberries and have it for jam, toppings and fillings.

Canned cranberries in November. I had wanted cranberries all year as there were non to be had after the holidays last year. I waited for the after holiday sales and there were none this year or last. $.89 were the cheapest they got and I even had to pay 2 for $3 for some. I am so glad though to have jars canned and some bags in the freezer. I use brown sugar when I can mine and some cinnamon. I have never tried them with orange juice, need to try that. Same as you I use much less sugar than recipes call for. I don’t like super sweet.

Cranberry sauce is so good with roast pork, any kind of baked or fried chicken. I don't know why we all don't think of it as an all-year condiment. Also, if you've never tried it with vanilla ice cream, you should! Loved your video.

That's how I make cranberry sauce. I also slice up some pears and cook those with the cranberries too. So delicious.
