"Hmph, people don't understand Isagi Yoichi's greatness because they're too blinded by flashy plays and shallow talent. But I see it - the potential, the dedication, the quiet confidence. He's not a showy player, but a true warrior, honing his skills in the shadows. Don't rush his development, let him grow at his own pace. The true greats don't need to be forced, they blossom naturally. Mark my words, Isagi Yoichi will surpass them all.

Am I the only one who thinks Isagi WON'T be the top striker? Idk... I could see the author throwin' a wrench in the usual "fight for the top spot" map and have someone else win. 🤔

heyyy big blue lock fan here! loved the vid, very interesting to hear your opinions on the anime, i’ve just got a couple notes :D - there is no winner of blue lock. it was mentioned briefly at the end of the season, but the program’s structure changed due to conflicts ego was having w their sponsors. they’re creating a team of blue lock players to compete for the world cup, there will be no one winner. which also kind of addressed your major complaint about lack of camaraderie, that’s mostly a season one thing!!! there’s a lot of interesting interpersonal relationships that develop later in the story. I’m like you in that i’m invested in characters, and I ADORE the cast of blue lock, especially later in the story. -rin being based on a child between mikasa and eren isn’t actually true haha, it’s a fan theory that gained a LOT of traction. (bllk artist WAS isayama’s assistant though, so the inspiration is probably there!!!) -the blue lock movie (coming out this month!!) is centered around nagi!! he’s the MC of a blue lock spin off manga, which the movie is based on. I actually like the spin off more than the main story. It’s mostly about nagi and reo’s relationship, there’s hardly any actual soccer LOL. -I also do not care for Isagi, actually, but I feel like he’s more of a vessel for the story than an actual character. you’re SUPPOSED to care about the side cast more than you care about him!! (most people do) that said, totally get if that’s not a format you enjoy. -i think blue lock is much more fun if you don’t treat it like a sports anime. there’s some really dark themes later on (disconnected from the soccer aspect. don’t worry, no one dies though haha) and if you treat it like a standard sports anime a lot of the depth will be lost. it’s supposed to be crazy and dramatic, because it’s more fun that way. i personally didn’t enjoy haikyuu (very unpopular opinion) because of how light hearted it was. It was objectively good, I just didn’t really care about any of the outcomes/character arcs, because I knew none of it was REALLY a big deal. I guess we have the opposite problem, lol. blue lock is technically a battle shonen, soccer is just the medium. the author doesn’t actually care much for IRL soccer, fun fact, so I think a lot of people mix up his intentions with this story lol. It is, in fact, a battle shonen. As a massive blue lock fan, I did not care for season one of the anime. I think it missed a lot of the charm the manga had, cut out a lot of my favorite bits and ADDED parts i think took away from the story. the art in the manga is also so ridiculously gorgeous, I don’t think the animation captured it very well. That’s my take!! thank you for the review :D

First of all, I REALLY appreciate your comment staying respectful. I had to remove some comments that were attacking my character just because I didn't feel the show lol. Thanks for bringing up the development from the end. I had somewhat forgotten that happened, and it makes me very happy to know that it will be a bit more team-work heavy from here on out. I'm interested to see how I feel after I see more of it. Generally, I don't share my opinions on something when I know so little about it. My opinion is obviously skewed because of it. I only did this video because I'm reviewing everything new I watch this year. It's too bad so many people take it as a personal attack when I think I made it very clear that the show wasn't necessarily bad, just didn't work well for me, personally.

@@lookingnerdywell I ask you to PLS watch s2 and if you finish it (13 eps) since is 99% gonna cover a arc that’s amazing and only lasts 13 eps and there is another one but that arc isn’t finished in the manga so they aren’t doing that, s2 for me is the best arc of the manga and prop in my top 3 of all time and I don’t like sports anime at all but this show surprised me, no hate to you but I hope you watch till s2 and if you dont like it then just quit the show bc it won’t be for you if you didn’t like s2

Blue lock takes inspiration a lot from inazuma eleven more than people realized almost like edgy serious version of it let me explain and compare. Like in inazuma eleven GO the stakes are really high in the story bad things could happened if you lose a match. Isagi like tenma only good at dribbling but as the story goes on they improve as a player. Ego like the adults in inazuma eleven are trying to create ideal team or player for football.

I think Isagi’s development is much slower than a typical sports manga and that’s why you and many others are having a hard time. I’m like you, I didn’t understand what made him interesting and I grew frustrated because when you look around the other characters had well defined “weapons” whereas with Isagi it doesn’t get defined til later in the manga and as such it doesn’t really show up in this first season. His “direct shot” is a volley and that in itself doesn’t feel that special but he continues to understand himself as a player and understand what his true value is on the soccer field. Isagi’s wrestling early on with making the right play and in blue lock he basically has to embrace his inner ego and understand that the “right” play is one that’s defined by your own desire to score and the first season only touches on it.

I completely understand where you are coming from. Not having a a taste for certain types of storytelling will hinder your own experience, since it's not what you like. Example: I wouldn't say I like tacos. A friend who's a chef offers to cook me a 'better' taco. I decline, because its still a taco. It doesn't mean it's BAD. it's just not gonna hold your interest enough to stick around and that's okay. 🤷‍♂ As for me, I enjoy Blue Lock a lot and I totally agree with you about it being serious for no reason sometimes. 😂 I'm basically caught up the 250+ chapter manga, so of course, I've seen the character develop you mentioned, but if an anime doesn't hold your attention, oh well. We've all been there.

kinda weak, but i think the whole isagi thing is that there was nothing too special about him or his envirorment as a player or growing up, just that when faced with blue lock he distroyed who he once was, adapting and evolving every time he is challenged, a fantasy of self improvement because, like, there are more people with his strenghts like, a bunch he was mid till he decided he won't be anymore

I'll be honest, I like blue lock, I don't really like the main character like what you said, my favorite character is bachira, my favorite interaction with characters with the main character is bachira, bachira is like a little brother too the main character(forgot his name) like out of games and I overall like it but it's just not as well as Cardcaptor Sakura(if you didn't watch it I highly recommend it it's really good, that's what I think), Demon slayer, MHA, and BSD. PS: I love your review video's, I just like other people's opinion and I fully respect that opinion.

I'd like to start out by saying that I'm a 18 yo male in university that plays basketball, volleyball and tennis, and doesn't have much experience and knowledge on football, so keep in mind when you read this lol. First of all, some other commenters already have stated, you're just not the target audience for the show. I totally get enjoying the teamwork aspect of sports anime. Blue Lock is way different than Haikyuu or even Kuroko no Basket and Slam Dunk. I love Haikyuu as much as I love Blue Lock, however I understand some people will enjoy one and not the other. To me, Blue Lock is more about self reflection, self improvement and it puts huge significance in personal abilities instead of teamwork. Like finding your own weapon and finding a formula to success, to a sports person like me, it honestly not bad and could be a thought process I could work with. The edgy dialogue and mindset aside, some of the dialogue in the show really made impressions on me. For example, the speech Ego has about luck really spoke to me. I totally get that you enjoy more of the lighthearted and comedic parts of the anime, and that's just personal preference. And about Isagi, I think a part of the Blue Lock fandom also don't get the hype for him and prefer other characters (me included). And @necrowaxed explained it perfectly. He's the lens for you to see the story through. And if you prefer Nagi then there's that movie that's coming out in the US soon centered around him instead of Isagi. Most people say Blue Lock shouldn't be treated like a sports anime, and I would disagree. At the end of the day, it's an anime that's about football. In the higher levels of sports, earning a spot in the team roster, or getting top place in a solo sport is extremely competitive, requires a lot of effort, the correct mindset and many other factors. And in Blue Lock it is very exaggerated, and I don't mind that, as it's just an anime. Additionally, watching the different moves that characters pull off in Blue Lock gives me the same feeling as watching other sports animes, which is that it makes me want to play the sport and try it for myself. My major complaint of Blue Lock (anime) is the animation though. The first episode was great. But later on in the season they relied on 3D animation which made the characters look unnatural and just straight up goofy. The non 3D animations are fine. So I'd rather read the manga than to watch season 1 all over again. So yeah, good review, totally get that why you don't enjoy it, and everyone looks at different aspects of an anime when judging if it's good, that's all! Good vid!

When you say it’s shouldn’t be so serious i guess it’s a matter of preference. Perhaps you’d think it’s just “soccer” but many ppl would take it so serious when there’s national team places on the line. Sure is it a bit of an exaggeration, a little bit. I can’t speak on sports anime generally, but when there’s pretty big stakes, you can’t expect ppl to not be serious. Unless ur watching non-competitive sports there should always be quite a large sense of competition.

No hate pls im just stating my opinion and pls read full thing first ahh as an egoist the bluelock isnt for everyone this show isnt supposed to be for the flashy plays but for the smartness while you dont find the characters interesting i feel like the more you find out the mor you know lets take inimori for example (i dont think i spelled that right) used to be known as the normal passer but his backstory was a one full or sadness and force like you said Isagi was known as the monster or him being good is not true tbh only bachira thought that maybe nagi and others but he was none near the best not even top 55 but thats what makes anime so great for me Now i dont disagree with the opinion that isagi was kinda hateable at the start but now im reading the manga and i was brought to a new light that not everyone is how they seem Also haikyuu and demon slayer are nothing like blue lock, blue lock isnt for comrads its to shine in your element and be the best too score your own goals this is what my light was shed

I think you'd need to be a lot more familiar with the usual sports anime trope of teamplay/friendship and all the corny stuff to appreciate an antithesis of that. It's like hinatas challange to kenma of playing a game in which there are no 2nd chances, if you lose that's it, you're out, but put to the extreme that if you lose you lose your dream and entire future in that sport. As far as character goes, isagi is ment to be plain and boring. Unlike a hinata that is physically capable in a way that noone else is, but is entirely new to the sport, isagi has nothing over anyone in blue lock aside from adapting the best to the brainwashing and as that is a statement of "everyone can accomplish it with the right mindset". My issues with the show: -The extreme "edge" and "hype" can be fun while it's "fresh", but gets to an exhausting amount quick. -It fails at "show rather than tell" so it constantly needs insert characters explaining and hyping up how great it was whatever it failed to show as great and noone is save from becoming that insert "hypeman" to whoever gets a moment to shine which is so uncharacteristic of "egoists". -It's striker focused and to make them look good defence and goalkeepers especially are made to look like thumb twiddling toddlers.

I get what you mean by not getting hooked on a show even if its really good. It happened with me when i was watching jujutsu kaisen even though the show was good but it was completely unable to get me hooked on it at all. What i love about blue lock is that its more of a individualistic anime, like characters are saying that " i am going to win" rather than saying "we are going to win as a team" in other sports animes like knb or haikyuu. Dont worry about not liking isagi though because the entire blue lock fandom is divided into two groups, one group includes all the isagi meatriders ( including me ) and the other group includes all the isagi haters. Blue lock is the my number 1 manga. I enjoyed the manga alot more than the anime and i had no problem getting hooked on it. There are shows that are just not for some people. Like all my friends absolutely love jjk or demon slayer but i just dont get whats the fuss about these animes are, they are good but for me they are nothing special. So it can happen. Maybe you will enjoy the second season or the movie ( the movie is the same story but nagi is the main character of that movie )

I actually totally understand what you mean with Jujutsu Kaisen because same. There are actually quite a few "popular shows" that I'm overall not a huge fan of (saying this as a huge Demon Slayer fan). Its not like I just actively hate popular shows (obviously, since I'm a huge Demon Slayer fan), it's just that I hold them to much higher standards. So, when they don't live up to those standards, I end up disappointed. I think I might enjoy it later on, season 1 just didn't grab me. People really think I personally attacked them for saying that lol This is why I usually don't share my opinions when they are negative, because people tend to be very nasty if I say I didn't like something that they like. And I get it, whenever I see someone say they dislike Demon Slayer, I'm a little sad. However, if they're respectful about it, I don't care and move on. Funny how people can't do that. Thanks for the comment. Looking forward to seeing if I fall in love a little more later on :)

I mean... Your opinion makes perfect sense. You are not the target audience for Blue Lock witch is made specifically for teenage man meanwhile Haikyuu is made for teenagers in general. I agree with you that Blue Lock is very dramatic but to be honest at least in Brazil Blue Lock shows way more how it is to play a competitive sport than Haikyuu with the cooperation bullshit. When you play some kind of team sport you are competing both against the enemy team and cooperating and competing with your own team. I can tell this as someone who played soccer, volley, cycling and handball competitively. Only in cycling you would get full cooperation instead of competition with in the team. You might like Run With the Wind or Long Riders! more than something like Yowamushi Pedal. But I still don't think you enjoy other sport animes than haikyuu but I don't know all sport animes who knows
