Too right. Disappearing glass on wagon tailgates has been a rust problem from the start. The side doors are less prone to such issues, possibly a combination of more wind coming past them as the vehicle drives along the road and the much narrower width of those doors making them easier to weatherseal and drain.

I just put a deposit on the new Sequoia yesterday.... But I was flabberagasted to find out they no longer have a full time 4wd mode. That was a huge add for me in my previous Sequoia I had. I do alot of gravel rd driving and also live in an area with quite a bit of snow driving in the winter - we often have snowy side roads etc that it's going to suck to always have to shift back/forth due to driveline binding etc. Pretty frustrated that Toyota decided to do it that way. Driving in slippery condition like snow/slush/ice, you can have highway partially covered with snow/slush and having clear asphalt. At highway speed having 4WD Auto is a critical point. With Part-Time you are risking putting excessive loads on drivetrain when go on the ramps. It's a disappointment that Toyota went to Part-Time, Ford has it in Expedition and its major competitor for new Sequoia.
@MrJcjet2 жыл бұрын
@@alexmukhortov926 the Borg Warner TOD that Ford uses can't handle the torque of the hybrid. And it's not viable for off-road or utility use because it's clutch based so it's really only for highway use and moderate off road. Toyota went for a more off-road capable vehicle. But if you're only going to use it on highway, the Ford might be better.

Need a bigger vehicle but don’t need the 3rd row seats, the 3rd row configuration when folded down take up way too much space, hoping I can remove them, Toyota should make them easily removable from factory. I understand why they dIdn’t make Auto 4wd available but I feel it’s a huge compromise that is still making me question my decision to trade my 4Runner Limited. I’m in Canada and a new Sequoia in higher trim levels is going to run north of $85-90,000, no 4wd Auto is not listening to your market, and puts them at a huge disadvantage to its North American competition. Just in terms of the cargo area and its design with the "tray system" I'm not loving that whole design. I get why they had to design it this way because of the battery location under the 3rd row and the rear axle but it's far from your traditional "drop the back two rows for a nice flat loading floor" like most 3 row SUVS. It looks goofy, susceptible to failing with heavy weight on it and a not as practical as a traditional set up. There definitely appears to be a loss of overall space when the tray in use to match up with the height of the 3rd row to create a flat floor throughout the cabin. As a result, then you have that 4 or 5" space that's kind of useless under the tray when it's in its slot to match up with the third row. I think this whole cargo situation was a compromise in design along with the high third row that eats into passenger comfort particularly head room. It's a cool, capable looking vehicle with a strong powertrain but for a large segment SUV it has passenger and cargo space compromises. Something like the midsize Telluride will have a better overall passenger set up across all three rows. Something like the Telluride will also have a very practical flat floor for cargo with the 2nd and 3rd row folded down. As a daily driver for a large SUV with large families/cargo in mind I think there are better options out there. I think it looks great overall especially the TRD PRO. Towing and off-roading sound like strengths along with the modern tech and safety equipment.

That was a good interview. Mr. Swear should have ballparked the mpg. We need get an idea how much the mileage has improved due to using hybrid technology. If it is marginal that would be disappointing. If it is significant that would be great. The one thing that raised questions for me was the third row. We don't need a third row and prefer flat carrying capacity. If the third row doesn't fold down flat or is not removable, then that would be a terrible usability failure.

Great vehicle and I want one, but I have to drive in snow country where it can be drive pavement followed by snow/ice and then back to dry pavement. The lack of 4A appears to restrict using 4WD until on slippery surfaces. Is this true? I want one, but would have to eliminate it if I can not have 4WD that works on both dry and slippery surfaces. Is this correct? How could they bring a product to market missing this capability that is in my 1999 4Runner?

Can Toyota put the front of the Sequoia on to the Tundra the 2023 Sequoia’s grill looks infinitely better and addresses the issues that people have with the look of the 2022 Tundra in having a grill that looks too big?
@Bosha922 жыл бұрын
If they did the towing capacity would be lowered. The amount of people who don’t understand why the Tundra has a larger grille is alarming.

Land Cruisers tend to be 112.2 in wheel base. That is the "perfect" on-road/off-road dimension that Toyota build the Land Cruiser to. Previous Sequoia is around 122 in wheel base. If you put the new Sequoia side by side with the new LX600, you will notice that the Sequoia is longer. 1st gen Sequoia had solid rear axles, 2nd gen has IRS, and now this third gen is bringing back the solid rear axles. Probably catering to the rise of the overland/off-road folks. The 1st gen and 2nd gen had ATRAC (slightly different version increment). However the 3rd gen now have crawl control, MTS, and option of rear locker in addition to ATRAC. The new Sequoia has the potential to be a great family overland vehicle.

Why Toyota got rid of 4WD Auto and went to Part-Time? Competition have 2WD - 4WD Auto - 4WD High - 4WD Low. It's very useful in slippery road conditions to have 4WD Auto option.

Was expecting more space in the rear. Guess I'll just keep my 2013 LX570 for another decade

Great interview! Looking forward to pricing when it comes out. Also, do you think the Sequoia will have any of the issues seen on the new Tundra?

Andre should have asked Mike why they removed AWD. Maybe he’d try to spin it like it’s anything other than cost cutting

Is there a TRD-Off Road (Cheaper version) and what does one loose on TRD-Off Road versus TRD-Pro? Is it just Fox shocks that are lost, or low-range transfer case. Does the Sequoia even have a low-range transfer case?

The TRD Pro in white looks so enticing.

Styling is on point and one major reason I believe the last version didn't sell very well. I now agree this TRD Pro version of the Sequoia is why Toyota kinda let the Land Cruiser go away....with a rear locker and TRD suspension it will likely do nearly all the offroading anyone would legit put a $80k vehicle through anyway. I'll just miss that Japanese built LC perception of ultimate reliability.

Tundra Hybrid has the battery and loses under-seat storage. Where does the battery live in the Sequoia? Also what are those big vents for at the entrance to the rear-passenger area? Love that Mike gets so involved in educating enthusiasts like us on what makes it so special.

Great video guys! Now, I’m super curious about the Sequoia since I was considering the Capstone Tundra. I’m really like the thought of a Sequoia TRD over the Tundra🤔💭🤔… This thought might be a little easier to decipher . Sequoia may be on deck!

WOW as a labor and delivery nurse speaking, the chief engineer feels like he just had a baby 😝. Hit my funny bone 🦴 because guys really have no clue but I really like the way he explains the new Sequoia and the episode about the Tundra. You guys rock especially Andre. Is that a Jersey accent you have?

It's kinda funny how everyone gets bummed about no more power rear window. We are on our second 4Runner and have never rolled down the rear glass. However, we've had our Armada for 8 years and I use the lift glass all the time.
