Naska, I really like your videos, they are fun and you share good information. I am an old man, 54 years old with one leg missing but I still get out there on track with my 2016 R1-m. I had my 3rd visit Mugello last August and love the track, I love italy too. I would like to retire to italy as the culture and people are really good.

I doubt gopro interference causes the laptimer issues, because these devices go through a lot of EMC compliance testing. I cannot imagine any kind of EMC related issue that would cause it. Also, I doubt this is damage from a crash. However! Commercial GPS suffers from restrictions for civilian use (if someone exports these without restrictions, it can be a weapons trafficking violation). But I think technically speaking GPS has a bandwidth constriction in a low pass filter. Practically speaking this makes it very hard to attain update rates of over about 15Hz (15 times per second). That might sound like a lot, but that means that if your lap timer could differ (2*1/rate) = 133ms, even in ideal conditions! That is significant for motorsport lap times of course. If we then factor in that packets can be delayed, atmospheric effects and other non idealistic, it wouldn't surprise me if you can get as much error as you had in your video. That is why they use RFID/NFC type trackers to time real races, and not GPS. I suggest you don't base your times of of what the GPS is saying, because of this inherent inaccuracy. tl;dr I think what you are seeing is not any error or malfunction, but just the inherent accuracy of GPS.

I use a GPS module I built myself and use it with racechrono, it takes a measure every 100ms, but it's FAR from a 200ms precision in lap time, that's not how it works. The app know my location somewhere just before the chrono line, and somewhere just after. Then it calculate my position between those two points and see exactly when I pass the finish line. It don't take one of those two points at random to get a chrono! I don't have the tools to measure exactly the precision, but it's clearly more in the millisecond range, more than enough for any riders. Now I hope that a timer on a race bike is smart enough to do the same simple maths, otherwise yes the precision would be crap, but it would be due to the manufacturer being lazy, not GPS limitations Edit : yes for races they need the maximum precision and reliability they can get, obviously they don't use GPS, but for training it's perfectly fine. Edit 2 : Starlane, used by lots of riders, also use a 10Hz GPS, and they claim a 10ms precision in chrono. Not at all 200ms obviously

@@PAD32 Sure you can do interpolation between data points, but that is still just that, interpolation. You cannot extrapolate the dynamics of what is happening in between, so it will always remain an approximation. Just assuming it is linear between the two data points might be fine in some scenarios, but not fine in others. The essential thing missing is still data, and the accuracy will still not be 1ms, it just seems to be 1ms. I do agree it would be better than without any interpolation at all. Alas, it does not matter in this case, since this is merely a possible explanation of what is happening, and also as to what might cause his strange lap time differences (i.e. not interference). A technically better solution by the way, would be implementing a kallman filter with the GPS data and the onboard inertial measurement unit. By sensor fusing that data, you can fairly accurately approximate between the GPS points, since you have actual data to predict what happens in between.
@PAD32
@PAD32 4 жыл бұрын
@@tHaH4x0r maybe you didn't see it because I edited my message just before your post. Starlane using also a 10Hz GPS claim a 10ms in lap precision.
@tHaH4x0r
@tHaH4x0r 4 жыл бұрын
@@PAD32 I did see it. But anybody can claim anything. or what companies like to do, claim something with an asterisk. That could be, 10ms lap precision only if under pure constant acceleration at the beginning/end of a lap.

Hello Alberto! For GPS to work better you should put your antenna on a metal surface! If you can't, you can stick aluminum tape around it, so the signal will be better. BTW, why don't you use running-lap delta (vs. Best of the day)? It's more handy, I think. So you can see where you lose, where and how you gain time

Hey Alberto, great channel man, as I am new to watching your videos but a big fan of MotoGP. Question, I did watch Luca's video on explanation of the difference in the Ducati and R1. But he said he your video that he felt like you bike controlled him too much instead of him controlling the bike. So what did he mean by that and what changes would he make on the bike and the riding style to get it to where he controls the bike. Thanks bro.

Your riding is NOT perfect, you’re close, but too late on the throttle coming out of almost every corner on almost every lap and not smooth when you do roll back on, it’s such a shame, I see you do it every time... your riding is very good though, you are only .3 of a second late on the throttle not noticeable for normal riders, but I am sure you see it.
