@@TomFM You might also want to consider the lack of player traits. A lot of them influence the desire to strike on the net. "Takes Long shots" and "Hits first time shots" would dramatically improve his shots/minute. Also, some of the personality modifiers use to be better at 1 and not 20, Injury Proneness for example. Controversy determines "feisty" behaviors to managers. Not sure if high levels is a positive thing or if its inverted. A more mid line value on Sportsmanship might allow the player to take some.... graceful advantages.... when the opportunity arises. High Loyalty might force the player to stay at the club, even though he is not really suited for that clubs play style. I have a feeling that a players "approach to the game" might have a larger influence on outcomes, PROVIDED they have the stats to back up their approach, AND the tactics allow them to execute their approach properly.

​@@garisonhayne668 yeah, i played long ago, and there was a guy randomly generated? or just really high roll. his stats were 12-14 in most offensive stuff, so like 60%ish, maybe 2 things above 18. but he had 5-6 skills, and he was a super beast, easily best player each game. also, psychological traits? havent played lately but it was a thing, that he reacts differently to different instructions and coaches and events, so morale might depend on it. one time i had a few real life guys, old fm, like 2006, i had signed Corluka and Modric from Zagreb, and a national league guy who was in real life signed, they all had traits, and was able to teach them to youngsters, i had a 16 yo central def, who was generated in my academy, he had 4-5 traits from 2 guys, scoring from corners mainly, then i trained a right midfielder into both full back positions and focused him on speed and stamina, Milan snatched him for 24 mill, then a few attackers into running behind defense. I even had a guy from second league, who scored 31-35 there, with only 10 pace and maximum jump and header, and he was doing the same for me, better than best strikers around. kinda like a Bergkamp, as my other guy was 20 off the ball 18 pace and decent other stats, as my 'Henry' in that formation.

I sign old players with low overall potential but great mental stats ( Enjoys big games, high consistency), and some key traits, like long shots and uses outside foot. They typically can be signed for very cheap long term contracts, with very low play times. This is likely do to high injury rates during their career , or some similar issue like existing at a poor club. As a mentor, things like injury proneness are a mute point. I set these gentlemen into mentoring groups of 3, and I bring up all my star-lings from the under 18s. The young ones go into these groups, typically 3 in each. Beyond being in this mentorship program, the oldies do absolutely NOTHING else. They are only there to sway my young players and transfer traits. So, my young players spend the next year chilling with the oldies, subbing in the main team, and generally building relationships with the squad.If you pick your mentors correctly, the typical outcome is a high increase in determination, and teamwork. You can get a spike in consistency and "enjoys big games" which is essential for full potential realization. They are likely to garnish a trait or two as well. By the time these younglings are ready for full first team activity, they will already have gained the traits and relationships you need to integrate them.

The Ballon D'Or is given to players who win trophies, so Tom wouldn't have won it in the years that Liverpool didn't win the League or CL, probably. You never checked to see where Liverpool were playing him. He might have been in midfield. I think you had controversy turned to 20 and maybe injury proneness since he missed some games. I think he'd fair far better next time if you decide to run it again. It was an entertaining video though and you could make a series out of it. Doing goalkeepers, full backs, centre backs, etc.

Not every stat being 20 is good for a player, that's the reason. What I found best is having good mentals (not aggression), finishing stats and speed and strenght. Having 20 at just those does wonders. Also controversy should be 1, not 20, it's opposite, teamwork also should be lower, since you want striker to be the one scoring. EDITED: Just saw you have frozen attributes, those do not work as it should, especially when everything is 20 and it should be like 300 CA, it's like worse then having just solid stats for position player plays.

Definitely one thing you could check on is where Liverpool is playing him. He's listed as ST/AM(C) so maybe they've got a "better" striker they play up top and use TomFM as the midfield creator. Also, no surprise his bravery dropped, that's pretty typical after major injuries.

So: 1. By being good at corners and free kicks he may have been taking more set pieces crossing etc and long range efforts than being in the box scoring. 2. By being good at long throws, he may have ended up taking throw-ins rather than being in attacking positions. 3. Long Shots & Flair will result in more shots taken, which can result in worldies, but can also waste opportunities. 4. Dribbling & Flair will result in more runs with the ball than necessarily being on the receiving end. 5. Vision & Flair combines for more complex passing, so again creating chances for other players rather than scoring himself. Onto the ultimate issues - if so much money is spent on him, can Liverpool afford other players. Early FM games used to have issues with great players pricing themselves out of club football with their demands, or killing teams who couldn't financially support their squads. Would be interesting to see where he scored his international goals, like did he have a 15 goal outing vs San Marino.

I would say that probably it's partly true that it may be random. But I also think that he isn't that much better than the best players in the world. Not that all his attributes are 60 while others only have 20, he is on somewhat close level with those players and then it comes to tactics. Anyway, a nice video, quite enjoyed it, Tom :)

it would show the positions AT LEAST in red (if they were closer to green, then it means he got better in that position, indicating he was most likely played in that position a lot) He was played as a ST, in very few games as an attacking midfielder, so no, we can't explain his lack of goals by him not being played as a ST

The Perfect National side. With each player has multiple positions. Like Goalkeeper, Both left & right full/wingback/midfider. Left/right full/wingback/Centre back & Defensive mid. Centre back & defensive mid. Utility defence. Both left/right wingback midfielder/winger. Both left/right wingback midfielder winger defensive/Centre & attacking midfielder. Defensive/Centre & attacking Midfielder. Utility midfielder. Both left/right winger attacking midfielder/striker. Left & right winger attacking midfielder/Striker. Utility players. Each of these Players start save aged 15/16 all perfect. All players played both footed.

Pretty weird. Once I just gave Messi a 200/200 CA (he was around 182 CA), not even perfect 20, but he managed averages of 8.3+ in the PL, and PotM every match even if he doesn't score. his passes were enough to give him a 9 every match without scoring. Maybe it's related to player traits?

Definitely should have reduced all the defensive stats to barely anything and maybe even things like team work, to potentially make him more selfish. Even stats like 20 corners and long throws probably mean he's taking them rather than being in the box to score. Things like positioning too are flagged up on FM as defensive stats, so maybe that factors into movement. An all 20 players is probably best suited to CM. Interesting video, though. I'd be keen to see how it would go if you were to make the changes suggested in the comments, or even try a perfect 20 in CM.

The problem with Tom FM is that since he's the best at everything then he will attempt to try and do everything on the pitch. He might give up goal scoring chances to help make plays for his teammates. He might be too tired at the end of games because his coach will ask him to be the tip of the spear on the press. He might be asked to drop back down a lot more to support his defense. Its part of the algorhythm, specialiized players tend to get better stats in whatever theyre specialty os because thats what the coach expects of them. However if that player is literally the BEST at every single attribute then he will always be the coach's first choice to work in a role. This of course will affect the players stamina because they will be relied upon way too much in games to do a little of everything.

Agree with all of this there’s so much more to it than wacking a load of stats on a player. Harry Kane is a real life example for this where he’s so good at everything that a lot of his time is spent doing everything else not just trying to stick it in the net. Also the team around him is going to make a huge difference the fact Liverpool only won 4 premier leagues in around 20 seasons with this guy in the team would strongly suggest that actually they didn’t always have the best players around him. Little bit much at the end to say ‘oh everything’s just random numbers and people have little effect on the out come’ when there’s so much context not even begun to be explored.

yeah, also there arent players like that. even messi had like 5-7 in def stats. also there were a few presets on the spider, and i got used to looking at that to figure out his style. like the creative amc, the slow deep laying midfielder, the fast wing backs, etc. they were also perfect a what they do and overall wasnt too high attributes

Advanced foward = move into channels, dribble more, get further foward), just because he has 20 tackling doesnt mean he will go running around the pitch tackling everybody if he's playing as a striker, he will stay in his position doing striker things

Bravery went to 18 because of an injury (lose a 50/50 get a long term injury don't want to get into more 50/50s) and I presume off the ball also went down to 16 from injuries? Also yeah don't put controversy, Injury proneness and aggression to 20 (also high Sportsmanship can very rarely harm your team). I think the biggest things that harmed him was probably him being on and off injured, his 16 off the ball (off the ball at super high levels is super good in my experience), being shoe horned into probably a pressing forward and not being the main man up front or the main playmaker and finally maybe traits were a problem. That all said if you look at his second season for boson @ 0:51 you see that he only has a 86 percent pass completion ratio which I can't understand why with 20 in everything he would be passing that badly

And due to his stats he might have been playing while still slightly injured, lowering performance. At least I found that 1 aggression, controversy and injury proneness was better than 20.

The ai might be putting them on corners all the time or even sometimes using them in deeper positions because everything is maxed out. If you just have the basics maxed put for striker the AI will not start putting them on random stuff. Like he wont get put on corners if you made it low level. As an example. Probably get more goals this way. I can give you real life examples of excellent forwards who get played in deeper positions for the benefit of the whole team.

Like Controversy 20 is bad thing, Temperament 20 is bad thing, injuryprone 20 is bad thing also player traits can effect a lot for scoring. And yes, defending 20, tackling 20, Marking 20, Positioning 20 are defender skills...and im not sure about Teamwork either, because these Strikers thats scoring the most goals to me such (Haaland, Moukoko, Ronaldo etc) have around 10 or less at teamwork, they "need" to be selfish in a good way.
