I can’t imagine the heartbreak and confusion the author must have felt in that moment when their parents didn’t show up. Weddings are such an emotional time, and the expectation is that family will be there to support you. However, the twist in this story is truly surprising and makes you reflect on the complex reasons behind personal decisions. It’s a reminder that sometimes things are not as they seem, and there may be deeper, unexpected circumstances at play. I hope the author can find peace and understanding with their parents, and I’m glad they shared such a raw and vulnerable moment with us. This story also highlights the importance of empathy and the need to look beyond the surface in any situation.

Mom backed out of my wedding at the last minute. She made some vague, lame, transparent excuses about her health. After the crap she put me through growing up, this one little act of random cruelty wasn't even on the radar.

Brother coming forward at the end of the story shows he didi care either until the family called them all out. He knew and did nothing . He is just trying to cover his butt from the family fallout. He spoiled his wife and didn’t stand up for his sister, his apologies are heartfelt and mean nothing. Why wasn’t he at his sister’s wedding?
@stirrednotshaken482312 күн бұрын
The other question is why he allowed his wife to have her birthday party on the day of his sister's wedding! She even said she double checked with the family to make sure the date didn't coincide with any other event and nobody said a word. Something tells me the SIL did it on purpose. Even if it had been her exact birthday, they could have had the party the weekend before or the weekend after her birthday.

She said she double checked with the family to make sure the date didn't coincide with any other events, but suddenly there's a birthday party nobody mentioned? Nah, something tells me SIL did that on purpose to draw attention away from OP, since she's used to getting all the parents' attention.

@lisa-johnson539727 күн бұрын
It is so hard to kill that last piece of hope. My parents are somewhat similar to ops in this story. My husband has been the only one to heal a bit of that hurt I feel in my heart every day. I don't know how many events in my life my parents skipped for no reason than they couldn't be bothered. Sport event after event I'd look up in the stands to see no one. I was scouted for university sports and Team Canada in track. They didn't care less. Other people did care about me. But it was hard to see it through the fog of feeling like a nobody in my own home. So, as pathetic as you see us, op and us all have a little bit of pathetic in us when it comes to wanting to be loved by our parents. Only one person in my entire life has loved me, and that's my husband. Thank goodness for him, right?
@MaggieTheCat0110 күн бұрын
None of this makes sense. Initially, the birthday party was a week before the wedding. No mention of Ava changing the date. When the family group chat blew up because they found out what OP’s parents did - were none of these relatives AT THE WEDDING?? Did none of them see the mother’s SM post of her and Ava at Ava’s party? What a load of rubbish.

They didn't even try!! Granted, I wouldn't blow off my child's wedding for a stupid birthday party that could be held any other time.
@isaidajhooks763127 күн бұрын
It’s a real tragedy that more of her emotions went to the people that didn’t care enough to be there then feeling joy and satisfaction because of the people that did show up… so many people showed up for her because of her to celebrate her in the OP was more focused on two people that didn’t come… at the end of the day. Don’t ever let this be you celebrate the people in your life that show up and do not give those that don’t care more emotional value than the ones that do because it doesn’t matter what office someone holds in your life, mother father, sister, brother, the office that you should give the highest level of attention is that to which people care enough to respect. If you are my friend, and you are behaving more loyal than family, you will have more of my attention and I will not disrespect your contribution to my life by being more sad over them than being happy over you.

My parents showed up at mine. My mother got drunk, took all the kids into the forest to search for deer. She also ripped up the only copies of our vows and burned them in an ashtray. Father insulted me as we walked down the aisle and I had to smile and laugh brushing it off. Its very fortunate my youngest sibling didn't show or she would have caused problems. My simple wedding apparently offended the family because I didn't havea minister, it wasnt in a church and we removed the word OBEY from the vows.

But im autistic and my husband doesn't understand psycho. 😂
