I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. ~~~~~~jAN 01, 202~~rEN~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.

When they were filming this, the owner of the property came in and told them they had about half an hour till they had to leave. They didn't think that would be enough time to get it done properly, but they got four takes done in that short time. The audio is all from the third of the four, as is a lot of the video. They did throw in some of the camera angles from the other three like you mentioned.
@Steve-c5jАй бұрын
yep - they were aiming for a full one-take. Ren has said they would normally try to get up to 20 tries and pick the best one. But they only had 4 takes so were forced to mix some shots. Still really impressive and Ren has performed this live on stage since.

Allo there friend. This song hits hard with how it tackles those intrusive thoughts and those thoughts of good. But really it's a balance of the two. The good and evil. The way how we have self doubt. This is definitely a strong lyrical song. Oo and here before that 1k mark. It's coming

If you rewind a little, after pausing, you won't miss anything. :) Yes, this was recorded live, in a single take, with multiple cameras. It's a style he's renowned for. Indeed he won a plethora of major international awards for his live, single take, videos, which he also directs, produces etc One good rule with Ren, is not to expect anything... other than greatness. Every song and performance is different, both from each other and from other artists. He covers EVERY genre and does so brilliantly! Rock, rap, hip-hop, R&B, punk, folk, edm, jazz, blues, reggae, classical, medieval, pop... He does them all and mixes and matches between them too! Another rule of thumb is, if you're not sure who's doing something on a piece from Ren, it's probably Ren! :) He has incredible vocals, believe me you haven't heard anything yet, capable of multiple voices, styles and tones! He raps like a rap god, scats and beatboxes brilliantly! Most backing vocals and background vocalisations will be Ren himself. He plays about a dozen instruments well. Half of them RIDICULOUSLY well! All self-taught. He sets up his own recordings and does his own audio engineering. He's a top-notch producer, who lays down his own music/beats/audio, mixes and masters. His performance skills are first-class and his stage presence is palpable! He directs and edits most of his own videos, with many, like Hi Ren, recorded live, in a single take! His songwriting skills are world-class! Especially his lyricism. He's a poet really and a bloody great poet at that! Ren doesn't miss! :) He also does it all fully independently! No label, no financial backing, no PR macine or publicist, no management company. Every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren. He's turned them all down! With Ren it really is all about the music! :) He also manages everything whilst suffering from a whole range of serious and chronic health problems. These include Lyme's disease, (undiagnosed for years, so it's caused long-term damage to his body and brain) bartonella, MCAS, severe autoimmunity, neuropathy, adhd, ptsd, chronic depression and a whole load of associated conditions, as well as side-effects from mountains of medication. At his worst, he was bedridden for the best part of almost seven years, unable to sleep properly due to the unrelenting, 24hr, chronic pain. He remains in constant pain and although no longer bedridden, tires really easily. His morning routine involves taking bucketloads of pills, sitting for 20 minutes while a strong electric current is passed through his brain, sitting for up to an hour with an IV drip in his arm... then there's food. His autoimmunity has made him highly allergic to virtually all food. As a result, he has almost exactly the same very particular meal, every single mealtime. Despite all these obstacles and too many more to go into here, Ren made history last year! He became the first fully independent artist to achieve a number 1 UK album! Knocking Drake off the top spot in the process. It also went top 10 in several other countries, topped the US hip-hop album chart and went to number 1 on the iTunes worldwide chart! This despite being unable to tour or to properly promote his work and despite being out of the country at the time, in Canada, in the middle of 18 months of intensive treatment! Ren's a unique artist. A musical genius! A once in a generation talent! He's also a fine example of a human being! Though don't worry he definitely has a fun side too and has a wicked sense of humour! :) tl/dr - Ren's great! Ren's music is great! Definitely react to more Ren! You won't be disappointed. You will be surprised... constantly! :)

It wasn't actually a single take, it was recorded live several times and the best bits were edited together for the video.
@Codex77776 күн бұрын
@@brianito7779 It was recorded in a single take with multiple cameras. You're confusing 2 different uses of the word "take". There were multiple takes, 4 to be exact, but each one was recorded in a single take. The 3rd of the 4 was chosen for release
@JustMe-zt2zjКүн бұрын
@brianito7779 No, it was a single take with multiple cameras. They did it 4 times and chose the best one. The ONLY thing taken from a different "take" was the ending. There was no editing from multiple recordings aside from that. Ren recorded this entire (song part) in a "one take". Fucking Genius as he is, he had the insight to use a different monolog at the end that blended better. Doesn't AT ALL take away from the absolute incredible artistry of the (one take) performance.

With the Ren rabbit hole you have only scratched the surface wait till you find the rest of his artistic songs. Along with another Rabbit hole that is The big push (a band he busked with). best one to start with IMO. And chinchilla who he has songs with. Chinchilla is amazing she puts into song the feelings of being in an abusive relationship, The way that Ren does for mental and health issues. Chinchilla and ren singing "forgot how to be me" is just as emotional and honest as this song. Truly beautiful xx

Different people have different learning styles-process information/stimuli differently. I do much better with visual than I do with auditory, so sometimes I need the captions to comprehend what I am viewing. That said, I do agree that the captions can interfere visually for some viewers.
@jamesp7709Ай бұрын
@johna.mangum28 Well, if the captions are dead wrong, what could you hope to learn? You will process incorrect information. It's different if you're watching a movie, and they have the official subtitles available, as added by the studio. KZbin captions are notoriously bad.
