I’m a retired teacher turned homeschool mom. I enjoy the slower mornings and crochet in the morning while listening to some of my favorite KZbinrs (usually biblical teachings) and in the evening after dinner. My problem is that sometimes I don’t want to stop crocheting and I am either getting a late start on homeschool lessons with my 14 year old or going to bed really late! 😝 self- discipline is hard!

I'm a combo crocheter....but then, my project for this year was to make a blanket for every one in our families for Christmas. I made 11 blankets. My goal was to be finished by Halloween so that the holidays would be free of the stress of finishing up the last one on Christmas eve, LOL. I'm happy to report that I completed the last one 3 weeks early, so yes, I was crocheting every spare moment outside of my full time job. And I'm so happy that I did. As I was finishing that project, work announced that we'd have a charity event for our local homeless shelter for the holidays. I was able to make 9 hats for that collection that was picked up last Tuesday. I'm tickled pink to know those recipients will be kept a little warmer just as our winter weather is beginning (It snowed on Halloween here in Michigan). I can attest to the creativity and productivity being higher in the morning for me, too, as compared to the evenings, after my brain has been hard at work all day.

I am a morning person, usually up anywhere between 4 and 6 AM. Our 2 dogs are the first thing on the agenda and then I get to enjoy my time of uninterrupted stitching until around 9:30 AM, when my husband gets up (we are retired :). I completely agree with you that the art of knitting or crocheting, or any stitching really, is meditative and even healing. I think its effects are probably on the same level as praying. Thank you so much for your infectiously enthusiastic and informative videos! 🌹

I had to laugh when you were describing making your bed...I thought I was the only person that made their bed before getting in to it at night, if it had gone undone all day. 🤣 I had also added 30 minutes to my morning routine recently - I had challenged myself to include 30 minutes each of bible study, reading for pleasure, a walk and crocheting. Self discipline has always been a struggle for me, I could get everything done that was needed but there was not much joy or fun while I did it. After 2 months of this I find that I have less stress and my creativity is back. Crocheting has always given me joy and crocheting everyday makes my heart sing. Good morning!! I am definitely a morning person. Yes whatever I need to get done isn’t done by say 2 o’clock you just won’t get done. I am retired, so my time is pretty much my own. Actually, I CROCHET at all times of the day, but always start my day with some crochet or knitting. I keep a small project in my bed. I love all the little critters you so lovingly create. They are so cute, and so sweet, and so much fun that they always make me smile. It’s wonderful to see your enthusiasm for the little guys. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us as, as well as your tips and other information. I especially enjoy hearing you talk about the various crochet hooks, and what you like, or dislike about each one. I love my tulips. And my clovers, the best. I have four oddessys, but I don’t seem to use them very much. That’s probably because I have child size. Hands in the odyssey hooks are pretty big. But, they really are nice. Wishing you a wonderful new year… I hope all of your planning is worth it. I am a very solid.INFP on the Myers Briggs personality disorder, so planning is something I’m not really very good at. I always forget. Oh well, to each his own.❤❤❤

Lol... and i thought I was the only person that woke up to craft ;) I have been a single mom for many years. And one of the best things about that for me is being able to simply wake up and reach for my knitting that I keep right next to my bed and knit EVERY SINGLE MORNING and not worrying about waking anyone up! I am still working in the corporate world. But I still set my alarm early enough (5:15 AM 😮!) every day so I do have a few minutes to knit before getting ready for the work day because it DOES help my stress and sense of accomplishment for the rest of the day. This video came at the perfect time! I was just thinking about my morning routine this morning, which doesn't really excist at the moment due to a weird week and a vacation the week before. A while ago I started reading for 15 minutes in the morning, and I really want to incorporate that again, because it didn't really happen the last weeks and I feel that my brain loves reading the most in the morning. I'm just to tired to read before going to bed.😅 I think I'm gonna start adding 20 minutes of sock knitting in the morning. I have a couple of socks I'm so exicted to make, but also have some other garment wips and plans, so the socks don't get a lot of work. Because during my knitting time in the day and evening, those garments get my attention. Especially with the colder weather, those big garments are great on my lap. And I don't sit in the same place every morning, so socks are great and portable for that😂 And I get the bedmaking thing, I'm the same. But from the video I couldn't see if you let air out your bed. I alsways learned to wait at least 30 minutes with the window open before making your bed and adding the extra cushions etc. So maybe making the bed after the 30 minutes of crocheting?😊

Thank you Elise, for giving me permission for some crotchet time in the morning! I often get the urge and have ideas in the morning but feel that it is a guilty pleasure and push the thought aside. I was brought up to think that you get your work done and then you can ‘play’ but then run out of energy, time or focus for the thing I would otherwise enjoy. While ‘work first play later’ may have merit to some extent, just taking 30 minutes with a cuppa when I would otherwise be waking up and struggling to get motivated is almost guilt free😁. Thank you so much for this liberating permission - this is one thing I think I can do for myself without too much self-recrimination👍

I believe what you are talking about when you refer to a morning routine is called “habit stacking!” My friend was teasing me recently about how I always crochet when I wake up while I drink my coffee and have breakfast. I always have to have a project that is working out before I go to bed so I can crochet in the morning without worry. Or sometimes I save a crochet issue for the morning for a rested brain.

That mouse is too cute. Since I work full time I cant really crochet in the mornings, but I sometimes will bring a project to work with me and work on it during my lunch break. Then when I get home I take a min and then get back into doing some other projects. On my days off I definitely crochet in the morning, once I let the dog out, feed the pets, make a tea or a coffee, then sit down and have a nice morning session. If the weather is bad out I will pretty much stay inside all day and crochet, taking little breaks and just being all cozy.

In 2023 I decided to dedicate the first 30 minutes of crafting I do on that day (typically in the morning) on on of the blankets. When it was done I took the next blanket. I was shocked how much progress I made. I calculated that I need the entire year to finish all three projects but I was done by June. It was amazing!

I have been a crocheting machine this past few months and now I see why I have been so creative , also with my macrame as well. It definitely makes sense that it reduces stress and calms nervousness too 😊. I absolutely love it.

I keep all of my supplies in my living room next to my spot on the sofa, I start after my first cup of coffee and go until I need a break. I'll do chores in between, then continue. This is my routine on my days off from work, unless I have errands. But starting in the morning has been amazing, and I make so much more progress on my projects. The added bonus is that my hands are fresh and ready to go in the morning. I have some hand pain, so starting fresh in the morning allows me to get more done. ❤

Being a retired nurse I start my mornings by opening my curtains while my tea is brewing then sit down with my hook and yarn to watch my morning show. I make easy corner to corner blankets for charity. I can tell how stressed I am by how fast I crochet.

I am definitely an all times of the day crocheter. I will do it in the morning with my first cup of coffee, after I put our youngest down for a nap, at night, and if I can't sleep then I will work on projects well into the night. Because of my autoimmune issues I can't crochet longer than 2hrs at a time without my arms flaring up. I really enjoyed this video!

On the weekends, I'm a "crochet any time of day I dang well please" crocheter. I'll set myself up with KZbin videos and sit there for hours, crocheting/taking breaks. The weekdays, because I work, I leave it till I get home, so it's a late afternoon/evening thing. One, I don't want to wake up earlier, and two, I'd get too into a project and be late for work if I tried crocheting in the mornings on work days, lol!

I'm disabled, so retirement a few years early. I get up at least by 8. Do things around the house. I try to stitch by 9, but if not, I do a small project in the TV room as I watch my soaps. Then maybe off and on during the day. By evening I will pull out a c2c graphgan or a bitter project and try to crochet for several hours. If my hands are tired or I can't focus, I will roll up bobbins of yarn or plan out my next project and get it ready.

My morning routine always includes some crochet time. I get myself ready for work, take care of my dog then sit down and crochet for about 30-45 minutes then go to work. I usually crochet in the evenings as a way to wind down. I find if I don’t get my crochet time in the morning I feel rushed and a little crabby lol!

Loved this video. This is something I have been doing for some time. I am an early morning riser (6am) so I make my morning coffee and sit with my crochet project and work for an hour or so before doing anything else. It's my morning meditation. My memory, concentration, and energy levels are best in the morning. By evening Im too tired. What I also love about crocheting early morning is the neighborhood is so quiet and peaceful. I find it easier to get into the creative zone when there is no noise or interruption. Crochet has been amazing for my mental health and anxiety. It's a form of therapy for me.

I usually crochet in the evenings after work, but thinking a short am session may be helpful and more consistent. I find that I don’t pick it up every day and then you’re right, I forget where I’m at and takes me forever to figure it out, especially on a project I’ve never done before which makes me more frustrated and less likely to pick it up. Thanks for the little nudge!

Like you, I always make my bed in the morning, or I will make it right before I get in it at night. Can't sleep in an unmade bed! I love the quote about creativity in the morning. I know I have to do things in the morning if they are really going to get done, but I never applied that to crocheting. Lately, I've been crocheting less and less, partly due to the pain in my hands (arthritis). I'm going to try to crochet in the morning and see how that goes! Thanks for the great tips.

I crochet mostly and knit as well. But I have always loved sewing small projects. I think I will try taking 30 minutes every morning to sew specifically because not only do I already know that I will spend the day crocheting or knitting but this way I will be certain to get in a little sewing which brings me so much peace with that needle and thread in hand! Thank you!

What a great revelation. I so glad you have found a more productive schedule for yourself. I like to pick up the hook and yarn around 5ish. It is dark outside, the cat, Skittles, is ready to be fed , and i feel so energized. Your mouse is so adorable. Im calling him Maynard. Can't wait to watch your tutorial on him, and purchase the pattern. Blessings.

I need to take medicine first thing in the morning. That part is easy, but then I have to wait about an hour before eating. I usually have things to do but I noticed (repeatedly) that it was hard to wait. I became quite stress waiting the hour out --cheated often -- which affected the rest of my day. I found by working on knit or crochet, the hour flew by. So, I do a few other things, in the morning, and then pick-up my project...it is about 30min of crochet or knit. I agree, it has improved my day.
