I remember a few years ago, I got on a flight from Boston and I could see the man in front open up his Wall Street Journal to read. Whose face do I see in this paper, but Max Gawn. I definitely was not expecting to see AFL or specifically Gawn in any newspaper in Boston, let alone the Wall Street Journal. I could see enough of the article to read that it was something to do with China investing in Australia or something. But I still think its a funny thing that I spotted him in that paper. It would be very very very rare that an AFL player would feature.

I had one idea. Rather than think of State of Origin we could have an All Star Game with all 44 on the long list playing each other. Winners get the AA title. Like US baseball. If you want to be an AA you need to play. Alternatively the best player in that game get voted and make the AA team.

I thought it was Merrett's best ever year. There was even murmurs of him being AA captain about 7-10 rounds ago. Essendon started to fall away at that point but Merrett didn't. He was excellent all year and had maybe 2-3 so so games all season. Can't believe he didn't get in.
