This has been hinted at multiple time during the show, not everything is as he describes it, his children challenged him on this multiple times, he just likes to exaggerate and make himself look better...

He told his kinds how he thought the other friends thought he looked like, witch he just made up since he cant read minds, they didnt actually think he looked good in reality, and once again, the hair we saw on the show wasnt the reality, so It was his impression that they thought he looks good, but he is delusional. Then after he said to his kids how he thought they reacted, they (the kids) told him they dont think thats the true. Is it that hard to understand that the story in now 1:1 with the reality. He is exaggerating for sake of entertainment. Ffs xd
