If you lease your interest on the bike will be around 1k anyways. PLUS full coverage insurance if you lease which with smart insurance is 100 dollars a month. With large insurances its like 500 a month. Plus registration fee. Please tell me how that adds up to 5k. Literally bought a new one in january in Tucson Az.

I've owned an MT-07 for 2 years and ~13k miles, my present bike is an MT-09 SP with 12k miles. It's hard to choose which is better to be honest. MT-07: value for money, more balanced bike (more weight on front wheel), better riding position. Inspires confidence and makes you smile every time you ride it. Minuses: finish quality like paint, rust, the suspension (upgraded to Ohlins), brakes a little weak, power drops pretty early in the revs. MT-09 SP: better engine, brakes, suspension, no frame flex. Huge adrenaline rush. Minuses: poor weight distribution (too much on back) - fixable with shock preload and taller rear tire, weird position - you can't easily hold on to the bike when going hard because pegs are too forward and seat tank don't offer much support, even after ECU flash throttle still quite snatchy which is a problem mainly on bad roads, does not inspire confidence, quite the contrary, you have to focus very seriously on controlling it. I guess it depends on what you want. Fun - MT-07. Challenge - MT-09. I love them both but MT-09 is harder to recommend, no doubt about it.

I went XSR900 to MT07. Kept the XSR900 for about 8 months before moving it on. Have now had the MT07 for 15 months with no plans of selling it. It wasn't about money for me at all, I have enough to own either bike. But as a daily commuter the MT07 sounds better, is lighter, is smaller and just overall a whole lot more fun to get on and boogie. With upgraded suspension it's now the best bike I've ever owned (out of 30+ other bikes).

Can you share the experience with suspension upgrade? Thanks.
@xsr_dirt
@xsr_dirt 10 күн бұрын
@@barrydinh I managed to find a used Ohlins for the rear, just the base version with preload and rebound damping. That made a huge difference to both control and comfort. Then I went with Cogent DDC emulators in the forks which sorted them out well enough to match the performance of the rear. You could go full blown cartridges in the forks and a shock with hi/low compression and rebound adjustment but for a commuter / daily rider that can be overkill. If you're hitting the twistied hard every weekend then that might be the way to go.

I'm 50, have been riding for over 35 years, and I just picked up a used FZ-07 as a project. It's a wonderful bike no matter what your skill level. If you slap a good shock on it and re-work the front suspension, you'll be blown away how it can blast the canyons. In the right hands, it will go as fast or faster than the people who spent two to three times as much on their rides. The best thing Yamaha could do, in my opinion, is offer an SP model with fully-adjustable suspension from the factory.

I'm usually on the bang for buck wagon, but I still like the XSR900 better: ● Almost every reviewer talks about XSR700's front end feeling unstable at high speeds and the XSR900 fixing that. That alone is a dealbreaker for me. ● I'd rather get the bike with more power out of the box already than spending a small fortune on mods. ● Paralel twins are more "pedestrian" than inline 3s. ● The backlighting on the XSR900's speedo transforms an average looking thing into something cool. ● The small visual tweaks made to the XSR900 make it look better to my eyes. ● I'm not building a scrambler. ● The riding position and the gearing is street oriented on the XSR900 too, it's not a sportbike, with the plus it can be almost as fast as a 600RR if you really want to push it. I see no problem there. ● You can use a low power driving mode on the XSR900 if you feel overwhelmed, so it's not totally noob unfriendly and you have more room to grow into it. Oh well, that's just me after researching these bikes a lot. Yamaha did a lovely thing.

I feel like the instability comes from the wind and riding position, tucking in (lol tucked into the windshieldless tank) seems to help a lot to stabilize the bike. I can maintain 235kmh confidently, and with a good roads 254kmh feels alright, assuming it's not a windy day.

I'm 5'10", 150 lbs and ride an MT03. I rented an MT07 for two days to ride in the mountains of Chiang Mai. I had two problems. In tight switch backs the rear kept slipping, very creepy, never happens on the 03. I was very careful with the throttle but to get up the mountain it needed throttle! Next, the ride was ruffer than the 03. I've learned some about the suspension issues and maybe the rear spring was cranked all the way up? Otherwise I loved it. I sat on an XSR700 and it didn't feel comfortable to me. Also, I don't think the XSR is suitable for a rear rack and small windscreen. I learned to ride in Thailand doing over 75,000K now and dig your channel. By the way, I can't imagine learning to ride on anything over 150cc, especially here in Asia.

As a second bike for around town? Sure. First “big” bike after a 300 class? Sure. As the primary bike for a regular rider, probably not. The MT-09 is notably smoother on the highway, and has more juice is you track day. And if you’re looking for a do anything motorcycle and not a hooligan, the MT-09 Tracer is fantastic. It takes some bar effort, but I dragged pegs a ton in the twisties on a Tracer 900 I rented.

The new MT-09’s have far nicer throttling. A mode is still a touch twitchy (way better than before), but the other modes smooth out a lot. It’s also not a liter bike. I prefer my 390 over my S1000RR in town since you can stretch it’s legs and run through the gears at reasonable speeds. The MT-09 isn’t like a liter bike though, you can still stretch it out and have fun without criminal speeding.

I even removed the dB killer, so that my neighbors would love me more. Lol 😂😂😂 However, I must admit that I also have a huge crush on the MT-09.

@@farmoboy83 There's no question that the SV has better suspension, the MT07 suspension (as far as I'm concerned) should be a mandatory upgrade. The SV suspension isn't amazing by any stretch of the imagination but it's good enough. The MT07 suspension is just outright dangerous Ridden the gen 3 SV650 a few times, the 2019 MT07 2-3 times, put 29000 miles on a Gladius, currently own a V-Strom 650. Out of everything I've gotten a chance to ride, the MT07 is easily in my top 3 for worst suspension

I say loved as I recently sold it :( (Covid Cash Crunch) and I'm thinking the MTO7(HO) here might be the better all rounder and preformance value option for me as I like road riding and commuting as few days a week. TBH the 09 scared me a fair bit at times but the power and sound was intoxicating. - Nice review - thanks -James

I've ridden the 09, it was awesome, I didn't really notice the snappy throttle and I thought it was really smooth, I had been riding the original mt03 (660 single cylinder and the most fun I've had on the road) I don't like the look of the 07 otherwise I'd be looking at one. Currently riding a vfr750 rc24, don't like it at all, it's fast and reliable but it's way too tame, I had the vfr400 nc24, it was amazing, more power isn't more fun on the roads, round a track maybe, but I find more power is more confidence, which to me is less fun... Where's the thrill if you know you can do it safely?

Gotta love papa yams business plan. 2 years ago, papa would hesitantly tell you how he wrecked two daytonas and rode an fz 09 and an R3 and nothing much more. Now he buys different kinds of motors and experiences them all and then gives them away to get new bikes, expanding his library. And slyly behind the scene he stretches his baby legs on trails on the ducati so that he doesn't embarrass himself when he buys an off road bike to give away. Cool stuff

Had a ‘17 FZ-07, decided I was looking for more room, power, refinement. I went for the Tracer 900, and I couldn’t be happier. Regarding the fueling, CP3 bikes have gotten way better from the factory. B mode = FZ-07 power delivery to me, in case anyone is concerned about the step up being too much. I spend 90% of my time in STD mode, the rest in A mode.

I'm considering upgrading to the tracer too. I just keep hearing about the death throttle of the MT-09 platform and how the bike scares the crap out of everyone. Hows the throttle response?
@kamerider7203
@kamerider7203 4 жыл бұрын
Greg Reil I heard a lot about that when I went to test ride the Tracer. I started the test ride in B mode, and it was so smooth I was in STD mode within 30 seconds. Tried A mode that ride too, but A takes a little working into. STD is still pretty smooth on day 1. I think all the scary throttle stories are from the older FZ-09s before they remapped and re-sprung them in ‘18 I believe.

I'm a guy that normally goes for "smaller bikes" (think like 400cc) which are perfect for commuters, but sometimes they're a little lacking...and I also want a bigger bike for potential road trips. How would an FZ/MT 07 do for long rides, after someone buys a universal windscreen + mount? Right now got my eyes on the Vulcan S, W800, MT07, or possibly a smaller v-twin cruiser like the Vulcan 800, but I'm really digging the Yamaha "07 engine" sound and that good mixed low-high RPM power.

I’m 55y. Owned 8/9 bikes. Many miles. Full of opinions. I bought the 900 after trying both at a local Yamaha dealer. I would say that the 700 has more than enough usable power and poise, especially for a buyer of lesser experience. Although I’m an older guy, I still enjoy riding aggressively sometimes, and I didn’t think the 700 was lacking in any way, I would be happy to own one. Most importantly, it was what I’d expected. When I tried the 900 I was truly amazed. The engine is fantastic. The acceleration was strong and linear for as much as I wanted. It was a lot more motorcycle than I’d expected, so I bought one. Bat Black, with bar-ends and added a QS , blah, blah. I’ve ridden many quick bikes, and the XSR900 was up there. Handles well enough, and I swear I can hear sparks sometimes. Very happy with it after several thousand. If you’re a new rider, I would suggest that the 900 is a LOT faster than you think it is.

I test ride the MT-07 a year ago and it felt in stable to me. It was so light, the front end felt sketchy and I had no confidence in it. It just felt like I was going to wash the front wheel out in the corners. I wanted to see if maybe the XSR was better. May be just the demo bike I was on, but that is all I have to go on. For me personally I just had no confidence in it and my FZ-09 just felt better. But I do want to test an XSR because I do want one. If I can feel comfortable
